Her full name is Kole Brujala (play on the words Bruja Ala, which is Spanish for Witchwing -her original surname-)
She is the granddaughter of the clan's matriarch, Neboa Brujala, and the mother of Cynder and Ember Brujala. She, along with all members of her clan, have a very thorough understanding of Darkness and see it as more of a means of balance than something to be feared. The clan has a deep natural connection to it, but each member of the clan must go through a rite of passage in order to prove they can handle the power that Darkness offers. This ritual is known as "Rito de la Marca" or "Rite of the Mark." When a member of the clan comes of age, they are given the opportunity to choose what aspects of Darkness they wish to spend the rest of their lives studying and learning about. For example, if a dragon wishes to understand combat in darkness, they will receive Marks that give them abilities to do so such as on their paws, wings, tail, et cetera. When a dragon chooses what they wish to understand, a sacred fire is lit around them and the flames leave brand marks in specific shapes on certain parts of the body.
Kole's Marks are reminiscent of her desire to be a protector and voice for the Darkness, and how it should not be used as a means to overpower others. Her Marks grant her the ability to use her voice as a weapon, fly incredibly fast to relay messages, and give her incredible strength to fight off enemies.
If a dragon is forced into Rito de la Marca before they are ready, the Darkness will prove too much for them to handle and alter their form in one way or another. Cynder, who was a purple and pink Twilight dragon before she was kidnapped, was forced into the rite before she was able to handle the magic and consequently her scales were permanently stained black and red.

My take on Cynder and Ember's mother. Before you get all huffy about her looking like Cynder, it's because I used Cynder's DotD color palette for her. Ember gets her pink from her and Cynder's father, Halvor Tamsusjoia.
