Don't get me started. The public shares the blame, too. In my state, they have a 'rainy day' fund. Sort of a piggy bank for emergencies. Whenever they allocate fund there, the public goes NUTS- they want tax refunds. Then, when the predictable emergencies occur, they wait for the government to save them "that's what we pay taxes for" The real problem is that corporations and the rich don't pay taxes. They've convinced a lot of people that somehow it is morally wrong to do so. Me? I don't care. You think if Nike disappeared tomorrow that we wouldn't have sneakers? Or if we charged Exxon/Mobil tax that we'd all buy Teslas?

Same here in Alberta. When oil and gas prices are high the province gets windfall taxes and builds up a “heritage fund”. Then, as an election approaches, they spend it on feel-good projects designed to win votes or things that sound good but have no effect (recent example, a couple of hundred million to re-open regional operating rooms that they closed years back, problem is that the province is short on doctors, surgeons and nurses, so there is no one to staff the reopened ORs). Meanwhile, they are offering taxpayer money to corporations that are supposed to have cleaned up inactive wells at their own expense an an incentive to do what they are already legally required to do. And if they stop cleaning up when the government money runs out? Nothing. No penalty, no deadlines, no consequences.

Don't get me started. They're broken up the state, and divided it among three mega medical groups. They celebrated by closing hospitals.

Sikorsky just got a HUGE tax gift for keeping it's helicopter plant in CT. Then the DoD gives the next big contract to Bell in Texas. Now everyone wnders if the tax give away gets rescinded.

Oh-oh! He must have grabbed the super-secret auto-camouflage chameleon material by mistake! It changes to match its surroundings and we caught them mid-transition. Now his cover is blown … so to speak.
