KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

Infinity sat in a small enclosure just big enough to stretch her large wings. She narrowed her eyes at the dark grey stone walls that were curved far above her head. The very top was a metallic railing where little creatures called goblins would throw down her meals to her, like some sort of common animal, and not the great dragon she knew she was supposed to be. She gave a drawn out sigh, this was the only place she had known as her home for years. Sometimes when she slept she would dream of a home within the forest, far away from this place, far away from the pain.

She rose her black scaled paw to inspect her sharp claws. How she had clawed at those walls, tested them, tried to climb. Each time she had succeeded her captor had made sure they were not able to climbed.  She slipped one of her digits underneath a cold steel collar that rested around her scaled neck, another grim reminder of her capture. For even when she closed her eyes she could feel it around her. Her talon traced down her neck to a ring of runes carved into her flesh. She shook her head slightly as she remembered the blade that had carefully tore through her scales and flesh.

Her eyes traced her large body, covered in numerous scars. Some she had forgotten how she had gotten, and she knew there far more than the ones on her white underscaled belly. She stretched her wings slightly, inspecting the membranes, that looked like the vast star filled sky she knew was beyond her prison. How she longed to be back in the sky's embrace. She frowned as the only thing she could remember about it was foggy, and she had been happy, laughing as the winds battered her snout.  She had been with someone then. Or at least I think it was someone. The form of them was just as clouded as the memory, almost like it had begun to be stripped from her very mind. How long until everything memory of mine is just as foggy?

Her eyes went next to the dim light hanging overhead. It hung from a vast ceiling even beyond the open top of her enclosure. This was her only sign that it was day. Or at least I think it's day. When the light would be turned off for her “Night" period, she could make out the small stone that appeared to be the source of the light. She gave a snort as she resettled her wings, kneading the one small patch of grass in her enclosure. She curled her tail around her as she contemplated when she would try to escape next. There has to be a way...somehow. She shook her head as she tried to forget all the other times she had escaped, only to be dragged back here every time, with another thing meant to keep her contained. She held her head high up at the ceiling, and snarled. She rose to all fours, turned herself around, and with a great sigh laid back down, placing her snout in her paws. Her ears perked as she heard the sound of the one that had kept her here. She felt a shiver run through her body. What does he want this time?

The voices came closer towards her with the sounds of footsteps. One she could remember, the heavy steps of her captor. He was an elderly looking man, a wizard by trade, with a warm smile. However, underneath this charming facade she knew what evil lurked within his heart. She fought the urge to bare her teeth at him, for she knew what horrors he could inflict on her with a mere flick of his wrist. However her ears twitched again at the sound of second pair of footsteps, much lighter than his. One of his goblins? The thought raced through her mind, But he never comes with them. He always sends them alone. She tapped a claw against the floor of her cell, as her bright green eyes widened. He got himself an apprentice! That had to be it, unless he decided suddenly to entertain guests after all these years. She shook the doubt from her mind, rustling her scales. No she was certain, it had to be another apprentice. I hope it's not like the last one. She twitched her tail, and held her head up slowly trying to fake disinterest.

From the railing emerged the form of her captor wearing dark blue robes. He glanced down at her slightly, stroking his long grey beard with his bony hand. “Here we have my most prized experiment, Infinity."

She snarled internally as her name was casually thrown around like trash. She may not have known the outside world for long, but she knew her name was only meant for friends, family, and dragons. Not for mortals to use out of their fat little mouths, especially not cruel men like him. He should have used her title, Night Rising.

From behind the wizard emerged the small young face of a human whelpling. He's young I think. She cocked her head to the side, Or at least I think he is. She was never really good at determining ages. She watched him as he stared at her with bright icy blue eyes, he moved closer towards the railing, gripped it tightly in his hands, and leaned forward to get a closer look. It was hard to tell but he was giving her a look she had not seen before in his eyes. It seemed to be fascination, mixed with wonder.

“Be careful Axton." the wizard's lips curled into a sneer. “She managed to kill my last apprentice." He made a gesture with his hands, simulating the dragon's maw closing. “She ripped the poor bastard right in half, made a terrible mess." The wizard short her a glare, “Had to spend a week cleaning the damned place."

She watched the human named Axton's eyes fill with fear as he continued to look at her. The entire time his gaze had never left her. She could not help it as she moved her snout a tad closer to get a better look.

“Am I safe up here?" He asked nervously, glancing back at her captor.

“Ah yes Axton." He thrust a finger towards the edge of the enclosure. “There are magical barriers in place to stop her from using her innate magical abilities….Which includes her fire breath."

“Fire breath?" He asks, turning his gaze back to her. “I thought I read black dragons spit acid!"

“Well that is but just one thing that makes my Infinity here so special. She breathes flames of brilliant blues." The wizard place his hands carefully together, almost as if he were plotting something. “So be careful, if she gets the chance, she will no doubtedly kill you dear boy."

Infinity gave a snort, and placed her head back into her paws. Of course there was nothing new here. This apprentice was going to be just like the last, she knew it.

“Her wings are very pretty. Like the night sky." the boy said.

She glanced back at him with one of her eyes. That almost sounded like he was still not afraid.

“Well don't let her wings entrap your gaze. Remember she would surely use them against you, no matter how beautiful they are." The wizard said, clasping a hand on the boy's shoulder. “Now come Axton, you must be hungry after such a long day of travel." The wizard turns and begins to walk away. However the boy called Axton still stands there, watching. He ruffled his black hair with his hand.

Well if he's going to watch me. She gave a great big yawn, taking care to show the human her rows of razor sharp teeth. She then rolled onto her belly, staring up at him. Then let him watch all of me.

“Those look really sharp." She hears him mutter under his breath. “And I wonder if he named you. If he did it's a really good name, powerful, deserving of a dragon." She snorted in amusement. She never heard praise being tossed her way. Maybe he will be different.

“Are you coming lad!?" Yells the wizard.

“One second!" He shouts out, turning his head back towards the wizard. He glances down at her one last time and gives her a slight wave, and scampers off.

Well that was certainly interesting.
