I admit to stealing art... but never tried to pass it off as my own, maybe a avatar here or there, but never claimed it to be mine.

yeah... you has several good points XD
You can't get away with it cause thanks to the internet, the furry community is very connected ^^ but yeah... i've seen some people take art... and not even give any credits to the original artist v.v but one thing that makes me angry... is when people complain about similar positionings o.o cause... let's all be honest XD there are only so many positions you can see yiff in ^^ but anyhoo... kudos good sir ^^ i think that if you do steal someone's art... you should at least give kudos to them ^^ and explain why you did. (Basically say that the artist inspired this pic XD) cause there's a big difference between stealing and fandom ^^ 4.5/5 (even though i can't give that, you still earned that .5 of a point ^^)

well to be honest the copying of a positional style is not really theft. Just as music developed by combining different inspirational sources to construct a new musical peice is not actually infingement upon any of the works that it is derived from. Hell technically so long as someone hasn't simply gone out and photoshopped a different head on a peice, maybe rubbed out some parts and recoloured it, an entirely similar artwork can in fact be completely original if it is wholey derived from the artists brush or pen such as to do with fan art which no doubt many furry members in fact participate in. On a more personal note i don't mind people using other works for base inspiration if it indeed raises the bar of the artwork that is produced, i mean do we really want to have pencil stick figure art or would we rather people take note of how people have shaded figures in certain positions, how to proportion different parts of the anatomy? As i constantly argue with people the end point of art is to be enjoyed, if people acknowledge their sources the net result isn't damage to the art industry itself but an expansion of it's appreciation.

Mainly I refer to those who steal pictures and post them under their own name. Or even worse put them on porn paysites and try to make Money with it. But I agree to llliousintahl...i'm a big Fan of Ben Dunn (Ninja Highschool ) and in his first Comics you could Identity each Manga he used for His panels. Still he became a very skilled drawer.
