Chapter Four: Our Hearts Beat as One

I can't stop thinking about him

"You know, your mom's been pretty funny lately."

Guilt-free time with you

"When we realized winter break was so close, she went crazy."

Why do I feel this way about him?

"She had to dig up the flannel sheets and change your bed."

I mean, I want to love him,

"Then she went and bought new pillows and flannel pillow covers."

Much like how I want him to love me

"After she set everything up, she realized we've kept your door closed ever since you left, and we accidently left the attic door near your room open."

What if I get there and he thinks I've changed for the worse?

"It was probably single digit degrees in your room; there was snow in the attic."

No! Alex would never think that, he's different from everyone else, that's why I love him.

"Hey Brian, are you asleep?"

He's special.

For the fourth time during the dull tedious three hour long car ride from school to home, Brian had zoned out of another one of his father's attempts to make conversation with his son.  The little fox had only one thing on his mind, or rather, one person.  The amount of importance he placed on Alex was beginning to teeter on the line between affection and obsession.

"Did you at least hear anything that I had just said Brian?" his father questioned, noticing that he was moving and his eyes were open, hoping to finally get a response from him now.

"Yeah, my room's going to be a popsicle when I get in there," he paused to fix his posture, day dreaming of his wolf made Brian slump down into the car seat over time.  "When you say mom's doing all this, are we talking about the same woman who said I wasn't her son the last time I came home for a weekend?"

With that, the car picked up slightly, a sign that his father was caught off guard with the witty yet truthful comment.  In reflex, he had pushed his hind-paw forward on the gas pedal enough to accelerate a good ten miles per hour more, bumping their velocity to eighty-five miles per hour.  This was popular among the drivers who had been swerving around their car the whole time.

"Listen, I'm sorry that she said that.  You and I both know that she has a mental disease, you should know you deal with it too.  Your mother realized she made a horrible mistake, and ever since then she's been taking her medication faithfully.  Everything is much better now, I promise."

"I hope you're right dad, I'd be lying if I said that I'm looking forward to coming home for a whole two months."

The father and son had arrived home rather late, around ten o'clock to be approximate.  This was late enough for Brian to simply dodge his mother for the night by slipping into bed early after taking a quick shower.

Laying there in his bed, Brian lay clutched to his body pillow, somewhat apprehensive of tomorrow.  Tomorrow meant finally being able to be with Alex.

"Chances are he's going to ask me to be his mate..." he whispered to the pillow with a cute little smile across his muzzle.  Sleep wasn't too far off for the little fox, his eyes opening and closing lazily.  His thoughts were still focused on the events that were to play out during what was now later that day.

When he woke up, Brian went through the usual routine; eat, shower, brush, and dress.  Something seemed wrong today, and he couldn't quite put a finger on it.  Stopping for a second, he realized that there wasn't anything wrong, he just hadn't checked his email at all that morning.  That was something he needed to so immediately, so he opened his laptop, powered it up.

"Hmph, just goes to show you how popular I am", he sighed to himself, positioning his cursor over the sign off button.

You have an IM from BunniixoxBoii330.  They are not on your buddy list; do you still want to accept this message?

Suddenly, his curiosity was spiked when he received an instant message from a screen name that looked a lot like it belonged to Brent.

BunniixoxBoii330: Hey Brian, this is Brent.  I need to talk to you about something.

xTwilightsxReprisalx: Oh hey Brent, what's up...

BunniixoxBoii330: Listen; don't type anything until I tell you to.  Just hear me out on this alright.

BunniixoxBoii330: I don't know who you think I am, but just because we met at a club, that doesn't make me the kind of person you believe me to be.

xTwilightsxReprisalx: I'm sorry... but what!?

BunniixoxBoii330: I told you to hear me out -.-

xTwilightsxReprisalx: I know I know, but what are you talking about Brent?

BunniixoxBoii330: I think you know full well what the hell I'm talking about and to speed things up, let me just type up a certain text message I received.

BunniixoxBoii330: Hey Brent, its Brian.  My roommates are treating me like shit and I really don't want to be at my dorm.  I figured you love me enough to let me sleep over at your apartment every now and then.  I'd pay you back in some tail; I can tell that you want to mount me.

xTwilightsxReprisalx: ....

xTwilightsxReprisalx: Now, what exactly is that supposed to be?

xTwilightsxReprisalx: What is the number that sent it?

BunniixoxBoii330: 508-1399-317

That was his number alright, but something was wrong.  Not only did Brian not know Brent's cell phone number, but he didn't remember sending that message at all.  At that moment, Brian heard something he had been hoping to hear all morning, his phone ringing.  He refused to let more than three words of his ringtone get out before he opened the phone, now trying to juggle two conversations at once.

"Hello?"

"Hey cutie, it's me"

BunniixoxBoii330: Jeremy said you asked for my number after I left, so don't give me the "I didn't know your phone number" lie.

"Oh is this your Grandfather's phone number?"

"Yeah, it's only for a short time Brian, so don't save it or anything."

xTwilightsxReprisalx: So you're telling me that I sent you that text message.

"Hey, do you have the address I emailed to you?"

"Yeah Alex, I should be able to figure out where you are, seems easy enough."

BunniixoxBoii330: That and the fact that I'm not some easy little slut for you to bend over for.

"How long do you think it'll take?"

"Uh, you're on the cape, so I'd assume it's a good hour or so."

"I can't wait to be with my little fox..."

"And I can't wait to be with my loving wolf..."

"Hey I know we didn't really talk about this, and if you're a little uneasy about it I understand."

"What is it?"

"I was actually planning on you spending the weekend, I had it all set in my mind, but I never really asked about it."

"No, no, no.  That's fine wuffie, it just means I need to pack some more clothes and all my toiletries."

BunniixoxBoii330: Hey... are you just going to ignore me now that I made a fucking point?

At this point, Brian's attempt to juggle the two had failed miserably.  Brent's asinine judgment of the fox's personality didn't seem to affect him as much as it should have, if at all.  Then he finally did something completely out of his normal personality, for once, Brian stood up for himself.

xTwilightsxReprisalx: Listen, I have far more important things to do today than sit here and hear you out.  It's not my fault your roommate is a jealous asshat that lied to me, used my phone to send you text messages then delete them out of my sent folder so I'd never know.  Honestly Brent, I really liked you, thought maybe I could get to know you better and we could possibly work our way from there.  Instead you want to make fucked up claims about shit you don't even know for sure, and back it up with a text message I never sent you as evidence.  Generally I'm a nice person, but if you're judging my morals and my character this early in our friendship, you might as well fuck off and never talk to me again, I have a mate now anyways.  Let me spell it out for you, seeing as you have a hard time believing me.  I DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE!

A quick jab at the enter button, a an aggressive click at the block icon, and Brent was out of the arctic fox's life for the time being.

"Alex, I'm just going to grab everything and throw it into the car, I'll call you when I'm like five minutes from your place okay?"

"Yeah sure, love you Brian..."

"...Love you too Alex."

"Is something wrong?" Alex spurted out quickly, trying to catch Brian before he hung up

"No," Brian replied, accompanying the word with a light chuckle.  "I'm still trying to get used to hearing it directed to me."

"You're so adorable and innocent, and you're all mine.  I love you so much."

Before the fox could reply, Alex had hung up the phone.

With all distractions out of the way, the fox quickly packed up his car for what he imagined to be the weekend.  Both his parents knew Alex and his family, so Brian didn't have to rely on his quick tongue to think up a story to cover up where he was going.

"Clothes, shower stuff, cell phone, laptop, chargers, wallet, keys, GPS, got everything" Brian anxiously repeated to himself for reassurance.  He had started up his car and made his way to Alex's grandfather's house.

The ride was very long, longer than expected.  Perhaps it was the thought of just being with Alex that made things drawn out a little bit.

"I can't believe Jeremy did that, I mean, I'm not... attractive.  Am I really that threatening?" He kept asking himself dumb questions to pass the time.

"You have reached your destination, good bye!" the little dashboard mounted unit chirped over the girlish squeals of an excited little fox.  He was so excited that the thought of calling Alex a few minutes beforehand completely slipped his mind.  To smooth that little mistake over, Brian flipped open his phone, and let the wolf know that his mate was outside, waiting to get into the empty house.  For a few seconds, Brian waited in his car until an attractive wolf opened the door and stood on the front steps, signaling him to come inside.

"It's finally real..." Brian whispered to himself, the pure white fox opened to door to his car and began to cover the distance between them, only to find Alex sprinting towards him at full speed.  With a playful pounce, the two were rolling over one another in the grass.

"I've waiting for this day for a very long time Brian."

"As have I Alex, trust me."

At that moment, something very strange and unfamiliar to Brian happened.  Something deep inside of him was set off by the powerful gaze set by the wolf's pair of amber hues.  The sensation of love finally blew its way to the little fox, who almost overwhelmed by the emotion, felt like he was going to melt in Alex's arms.

"Why don't we go inside?  My grandfather is up at the casino for the day, and he knows I have a friend coming over and spending the night, so he won't be alarmed.  I just was planning on making you something to eat, because you know how much I love cooking" Alex whispered, the tip of his muzzle clamped down on one of Brian's ears.

"I am kind of hungry, so that doesn't sound bad one bit.  What did you make me wuffie?" Brian said, sitting up now, helping Alex up as well.  The two of them walked paw in paw to the doorway.  The wolf took the lead, the fox following closely until they reached the kitchen, where an early dinner was waiting for the two of them.

"Oh gods," Brian groaned looking on the table to see what Alex had made him "waffles with strawberries and chocolate ice cream on top... my weakness."

"Yeah, I'm kind of evil like that little fox" Alex added with a giggle as they sat down at the table to eat.  Eat was an understatement, never take Brian to an IHOP, his favorite restaurant, he eats everything, an action that completely contradicted his size and build.  After eating a few waffles, a box of strawberries, and a half pint of chocolate ice cream with it all, Brian felt like he was going to pass out, a feeling not too unfamiliar whenever he ate waffles.

"Is my little fox getting that post-waffle feeling yet?" the wolf smirked, petting him softly on the head.  Brian only responded with an shy nod.

Secretly, strawberries and chocolate made Brian sleepy and even more prone to want to snuggle and cuddle to no end.  In certain situations, the combination also made him horny, although this would not be the case tonight.  All this added together is what Alex would refer to as the "post-waffle effect".

Knowing the fox was probably going to start feeling tired soon, Alex figured it was better off if he took Brian to bed before they both got very tired and each passed out on the kitchen floor.

The two quickly made way for Alex's makeshift bedroom upstairs.  Swinging the door open, Brian faced something he never faced before.  Brian had to make the decision now if he was going to have sex with Alex that night, or wait it out, and he had to make that decision quickly, as he watched the wolf starting to strip right in front of him.

"Alex, ask me the question I've been dying to hear ever since you called me a few weeks ago to tell me that you loved me..." the little fox murred out loud, feeling his clothes starting to get picked apart as well.  The wolf didn't make a sound until the two of them were standing naked in front of one another.  Alex was the one to make a first action, reaching behind Brian to pull the bed sheets down, inching closer to Brian, until they were lying together in the bed.  Laying there on his back for a moment made the arctic fox think for a moment while the wolf was working his way on top of him.

"Brian, the fox that I've always adored secretly and have always dreamed about being with, will you be my mate?" Alex said with an innocent smile as his paws worked around Brian's lower back in an attempt to lift him up.  Taking the hint, the little fox moved until he was sitting up, his muzzle rubbing against the wolf's neck.

"I couldn't imagine there being an answer other than yes" he replied shortly before receiving his first muzzle-to-muzzle kiss ever.  For a small period, he tried to adjust to the new sensation.  First, his muzzle opened a little bit, giving his tongue enough room to hang out freely.  This also was enough room for Alex's tongue to venture into his new mate's muzzle, only to rub up against Brian's.  Each one caressing the other produced an intoxicating feeling, making the fox's tail curl up in euphoria.

Once he became comfortable with the taste of wolf tongue, Brian's paws stretched out, trailing up and down Alex's back trying to return the feeling.

"I've wanted to be with you for so long Alex, I waited what seemed like forever while you were with your ex" the little fox whispered with a slight blush, hoping he wasn't sounding too corny yet, because the worst was yet to come.  "You know, I've been thinking of something."

"What is it my little fox?" his mate replied.

"Being with you now, this one moment, us laying together in bed,  mates, wrapped up in the one another's embrace; it makes up for everything.  I'm not talking about just waiting the five months for your relationship to end.  I'm talking about everything, every time I've felt alone, hurt, or betrayed.  All the nights I was there sobbing my heart out to no one but me, all the pain I've ever endured my whole life.  I realize now that all that makes being with you that much better."  It took Brian a few moments to collect himself again after letting all that out of him, gathering strength by clutching onto Alex's fur tightly.

All the wolf could do at this point was pull Brian close and give him a reassuring kiss on the forehead.  With his right paw, Alex guided the white fox's head with one finger from underneath his chin.  He adjusted their sight so that they were looking into each other's eyes, both sets looking a little glassy, both ready to shed a few tears.  Although neither of them really did, the emotion was present with the two of them.

To make sure neither of them turned their first romantic night into a tear jerker, Alex giggled, nuzzling his mate a few times before asking "Hey, I want to ask you something, so keep an open mind alright little fox?"  He waited for Brian to collect himself, or give any sign of being able to answer a question.  "You're a very special mate Brian, and I want to do something with you that I haven't done before with anyone else."

That was enough to wake him right up, for some reason, he was nervous all of a sudden.  It was as if he was afraid that Alex was going to ask him to partake in some sort of sexual position he had never tried before, but that was just the fox's mind going in the wrong direction.  "Yeah, what is it Alex?" he whispered back in response, trying to be cute by nuzzling playfully into the Wolf's chest.

"I want to fall asleep spooning you.  Would you mind that little one?"

Brian shook his head furiously, a grin starting to form around his muzzle.  "Oh course," he started, turning over on his side instantly. "You're my mate; don't feel that your paws aren't allowed to go certain places dear."

With a few adjustments, the two were dangerously close to grinding up against one another, Alex's arms wrapped around Brian's waist, Brian's arms around a pillow for balance.

It was only eight o'clock, but it was winter, it was pitch black out.  From where he was laying, the little fox could look out the window and see the star-painted night sky, as beautiful as ever.

"Looks like you really do grant wishes" he whispered to himself, his eyes closing slowly to fall asleep.

Who the hell goes to bed at eight during vacation? No one does.  Then again, who cared about anyone else?  At this point, nothing else mattered, no one else mattered.  All Brian cared about was the fact that for tonight, he was being held.  There was someone out there who was willing to give the fox all the love and affection he wanted, while accepting everything the Brian had to give.  The best part about it was that he wasn't out there anymore, he was right there with him.

"Oh, before you fall asleep, I have a surprise for you, remember?" Alex yelped, interrupting the fox's thinking.

"That's right love, this doesn't require you to get up does it, because I don't want to move" Brian chuckled, wigging his tail-end a little bit to tease his mate.

"Well, there was paperwork and everything that I was going to show you, but I suppose I can simply tell you" Alex murred, feeling his mate grinding up against his bare sheath.  "Well, I know you were set on have a long distance relationship with me, and that's when I knew that you were truly in love, and not like anyone else I've ever known before.  Okay, let me make this quick so I can pass out.  I'm not going back to California, I'm finishing my senior year of high school here, and then I'll apply to a college in the area, perhaps yours."

At this point, Brian was having the time of his life, he had completely forgot that initially, this weekend was a once in a while deal.  Now he knew for sure that he would be with his mate for very long time.  "I'm speechless, but I'm so overjoyed.  Let's just sleep it off and we can have this discussion again in the morning" Brian offered, the huge smile he wore now was hidden from his mate's view, but chances were that Alex could sense his happiness.

"I couldn't have put it any better my dear, goodnight"

"Goodnight my mate, sweet dreams."

That was all that needed to be said, and that's all that was said until a sound came from the pile of clothes on the floor.

I wanna' heal, I wanna' feel like I'm close to something real

I wanna' find something I've wanted all along

somewhere I belong

Alex smirked; his wolf paw squeezing lightly around Brian's slender form.  He moved his body over the fox's to whisper in his ear "quite an appropriate ringtone love".

"I think so too, my angel..."

And so the new couple was left alone for the rest of the night, not disturbed by anyone or any sound.  All Brian could hear was his mate's heartbeat, accompanied by a slow and steady pace of breath, this would serve as his lullaby for the night, and all the other nights left to come in their long lifetime together.

~~* The End *~~
