Eye of the Beholder
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
This picture shows a series of scenes from a The Fantasy Trip: In The Labyrinth adventure I ran called Eye of the Beholder, which at the time I thought was a very clever title. A group of fantasy heroes embark on a long quest with many encounters, culminating in a confrontation with a powerful beholder named Qulrx (I converted the stats for a beholder from D&D to The Fantasy Trip).
The first panel shows the heroes battling crocodiles in a swamp as they travel upriver in search of their quarry. You'll recognize Solomon Kane and Ssard from my previous ITL pictures, along with Alvin the Chipmunk, who dropped into the campaign world of Cidri from another dimension, along with his two brothers (I had just bought the album Chipmunk Punk and decided to introduce the Chipmunks to my campaign, because why not?). The second panel shows them being attacked by peryton (mythological monsters with the heads of deer and the bodies of eagles) on a dizzyingly high precipice called the Deeping Clefts. The third panel shows them fighting a hydra. By this time, my friend Scott Perzan had introduced a magic-using version of himself as a character (Hey, if the Chipmunks can show up, why not a kid from Berlin, CT?). The fourth panel shows them fighting Qulrx himself, with Ssard taking a hit from a lightning bolt from one of his eyestalks that nearly killed him.
