A couple weeks ago i worked with anolther mural artist on a french town piece that i helped create. he has a bad back and needed mine to set up the scaffold and do all the piano moving stuff. Heavy lifting and what not, i gained from him the importance of creating buildings in my otherwise void backgrounds, i also learned how to do sky in warm colors like i have been doing. this piece i'll keep up instead of removing it. but i will do more detail in the cowboy's face and eyes plus more detail in the view, i wanted him to be seen from the side instead of the back which would need to be the case when i put in Tuscon Jack and company. I am usually beter with color, but the scratchiness to the swirled line strokes gave this a different character from my usual works. It came nearly nice but this one was not planned i simply sat down and drew. Sometimes i can draw this way, not often usually i will plan what i think i want staring at the blank white page, then begin with a pose in the way the torso and pelvis are to look. i kind of made his chaps and vest a little too black, and usually i like to show my horse's hooves. this one is different it was unnecessary to draw out the rest of his legs like i normally do, a side slightly up, close up view became the focal point. something i have never done many of. This was an uneventful day and a person made me angry so i drew this. I let him get me angry kind of, but he wanted to be a dick i showed him to be a asshole and coward so we were even after he accused me of being a liar, which i am not. but he reveled in his joy at pissing me off i could have gone to jail today but didn't push his face in, instead i did what my sensei would or should commend me for, i left.

well okay i try to put up something every day whether the mood hits me to do porn or rarely i get an idea while i begin a piece. this one was one of those it developed then i put the background in afterwards. you think color would help? or expand it somewhat into more, i was thinking after i had drawn it that i should have included Tuscon Jack and his gang facing the cowboy, (a horse in a black hat). but it was needing another emotion so i added him spitting out his cigarette.

I think it's the empty outreached hand that gives me the impression that the cowboy's reacting instead of advancing. It's like he's reaching for a door or something. basically if he were closer to an actual building or entranceway it would be a more effective pose.

Color is always a burden, but I think it'd help unify some of the aspects of this picture that are blurred a bit with the sketchy lines of the picture. Maybe even just a little dab of color here and there, like via inkwash or something. It'd be able to give some smooth shade tones. It would also help define some of the really busy areas of the picture (for example distinguishing which lines are for the figure of the woman from which lines are for the outstreched hand.

Another really nice aspect of this composition is that you've got a good flow to the piece. The eye is moved around effectively, and all the picture remains interesting without being over stimulating.
