Nightmunk is a superhero I created for the MMORPG Champions Online. He is a manimal, a fusion of human and animal DNA, created an Island in the Pacific by the mad geneticist Dr. Philippe Moreau, great-grandson of the character from the novel by H. G. Wells. Moreau created three chipmunk manimals in the likeness of Ross Bagdasarian's singing cartoon chipmunks, naming them Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. For a time, they entertained him, but then he grew bored with them and consigned them to his fight pits, where his creations fought each other in mortal combat. Only Alvin survived the first week. He stowed away on a transport and eventually reached Millennium City, where he fought street crime as a way of venting his anger at the deaths of his brothers. This brought him to the attention of the costumed crimefighter Nighthawk, who took him under his wing and trained and equipped him to be a crimefighter like himself. Dubbing himself Nightmunk to honor the only human who ever believed in him, Alvin now fights crime on the streets of Millennium City.
Nightmunk is a hybrid martial artist/gadgeteer hero. His training elevated his body (already toughened by the fight pits on Monster Island) to its physical peak. He is as strong as a being his size and build can naturally be. His strength-to-weight ratio (the amount he can lift vs. the amount he weighs) is borderline superhuman, making him capable of athletic feats few humans can match. He is an expert in unarmed combat and acrobatics and has been educated in criminology. His costume is made of an exotic polymer that is both bulletproof and fireproof, and is equipped with talons made of questionite, an extremely hard and light metal. He also carries a variety of devices in his utility belt, including throwing blades, a grapple gun, micro explosives, sleep gas pellets, and first aid equipment.
