Male Canine Head Tutorial
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Hey everyone, doing a quick tutorial on the male canine head for someone. Hope this is helpful. :3

Ok grab your pencils and lets start drawing! First thing you want to do is draw a circle. (fig.1) It’s not much now but we will be adding more to it as we go along. Doesn’t have to be perfect as we will be playing around and erasing lines later. I also add two intersecting lines to show where the face is pointing (the point they meet with where the muzzle goes), particularly helpful when drawing a species with a longer muzzle.
Now we can get onto adding a few more shapes to help make it more canine-like. (Fig.2) The muzzle for canine is more of a rectangular shape though I usually let the top extend a little more than the bottom to give the tip a more of a pointed look for the nose the we will be adding later. I use a circle for the cheek though be careful not to go too dark as we will be altering it a bit in the next part. And finally triangles for the ears. Take careful note how the side on the back is a little bent giving it more an ear like shape.
It’s looking a little more canine now though we can start giving it a few more details now. (Fig.3) I like tufts of fur with my cheeks so I usually draw them using the circle as a guide. You can cut into the circle a little but don’t go too far. Just a couple of simple curves is all you need to make a tuft. You can add the nose as well, on the tip of the muzzle there. I usually draw it as a cute little triangle with a bit of a curve on the top. The ears are pretty easy to do too, just add a curve that comes from teh tip down to the cheek like in the illistraion. Finally for this part we have the eye. I went with a more oval eye here though you can do them as you see fit for your character. What you need to do though is make the line from the cheek flows underneath it smoothly.
Looking better, now to make the head lines a little more defined. (Fig.4) I like to add a few jagged lines to make a defined boundary between the head and the ear and head. I also use those lines on the top of the head to denote fur. (You can add hair though some male furries, like the one I’m basing this on, don’t) I also like to draw a line curving up sharply to show where the muzzle meets up with the head. Finally a simple curve for the mouth.
This step is mostly just cleaning things up and making them look a little better before adding the finishing touches. Lightly, and I mean lightly, go over some of unneeded lines leaving what’s in the next figure. (Fig.5) You might also note a couple more details. I made another eye on the otherside of the face and drew on eyelids too.
We’re in the home stretch! Now for a few final details. (Fig. 6) The eyes are pretty easy, just add a couple of circles for a pupil and iris. If you want you can take a bit of the pupil out to make it seem like light is reflecting off it. Now I don’t usually do this next part but you can add a little tuft of fur in the ears.
Now for the easy part. X3 Go over your pencil lines with an ink pen, being careful to stay in the lines. Wait a few minutes for it dry and then erase the pencil marks to reveal your finished head. :3
