They really are.

Not this trup, but a couple before, they had keepers in the exhibit feeding them termites. It was fun to watch them chasing the insects around.

I've got an aardwolf character in my story "There's No Way". I've always liked the idea of an aardwolf being an anthro character. It's kind of hard to believe that they're a species of hyena, isn't it?

Yes. Harder to believe that they are insectivores.

That's true, too. I wish I lived close to a zoo that has the more exotic creatures in it. The closest one to me has animals that you can see in almost any zoo but, virtually none that are lesser known like the aardwolf.
