Jirril pressed himself against the lounging dragon, rubbing his head against Malaresh's shoulder. "Well?"

The dragon stared back at him. "Well, what?"

The gryphon made a loud, warbling noise, flicking his feathered tail against Malaresh. "Well, pet me, of course!"

This adorable odd couple is from my ongoing serialized fantasy novel, Princess of Beasts. It's about an exiled imperial princess, who now serves as captain of a great airship crewed exclusively by so-called beasts, and monsters. Gnolls, kobolds, gryphons, and more! Including a dragon, of course.

Malaresh is the ship's resident grumpy dragon, and is fond of antiquated, old-timey sayings, stealing from the ship's treasury to add to his own hoard, and claiming the entire vessel for himself.

Jirril is a former bodyguard to the human princess, who now serves as part of her "air force." He's well known for being especially catlike and outrageous, even for a gryphon, and for randomly flopping against everyone to demand pets.

They're both well known for being a couple, though you'd be hard pressed to get the dragon to ever admit he considers Jirril as anything more than his favored servant, and concubine. A statement liable to get him pecked...repeatedly.
