Volts and Halsy
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Oh my! It's been quite a bit since I last posted something! >w<
Spent quite a bit on this piece, and quite liked the way it turned out!~
Trying to practice drawing more females with Red's characters: Volts (right), and her BFF Halsy (left)! This was also the first proper time I've tried to draw more than one character in an art piece. :3
Once again, this was a challenging, but fun piece to work on. Thanks Red! ^w^
I hope you all enjoy it!~

Looking back at this piece, I do see your point on how the limbs of the characters are rather tiny; you're actually not the only one who put this to my attention! I was trying to aim for more "ectomorphic" and "mesomorphic" figures for these characters, making them look a bit longer/slimmer than usual, even if it was one of the first times I tried different body types.
But to see that their appearances in the final product felt a bit off, just means that I need a little more improvement in this field! Like you said, "Never stop improving"! :3
For a first try, it’s not bad but definitely feels off. I mean no offense to character, their owner or your attemp at exploring different body types, but Volts in particular just looks kind of anorexic. That may be because you made her rib cage more visible in the lower chest (in addition to the small limbs.)
I Hope the extra criticism helps and maybe seek references for the body types your looking to emulate.
I can see what you mean by the visual rib cage on Volts. I didn't think of it that way at first, but since you mentioned it I can see how it can give that impression now, and how it adds to the dissonance of her anatomy.
While I was drawing this, I believe I was under the impression that since similar was done with the character's shoulders and forearms, visually marking that area on the lower chest would give off the impression that she was somewhat toned and skinny. The fact that it gave you the impression that she was perhaps unhealthily skinny tells me that decision was flawed. (which is okay, this helps me learn from those mistakes) ^^'
Looking back, and looking at a couple of visual references just now, I can definitely see why: rib cages are visible on skinny/slim characters, but very faintly, but the black outlines make them appear much more apparent, giving the impression that the skin is wrapping around the bone rather than brushing passed it.
Again, it just means I need more work with these body shapes before I can get it right, and to learn from what did and didn't work in the end!
I'll definitely check out more visual references I can get the next time I try this. Thanks again for the constructive criticism, Razz! ^^
