Friday Flats - "Personal Favorites" - Artica Lagopus
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
We wrap this weeks Friday Flats "Personal Favorites" theme with one of the earliest characters I discovered back in late 1999/ early 2000.
's Artica Lagopus from the Extinctioners and Solar Foxes.
Oh man do I have a journey to tell with this character. When I started in college and began exploring the wider world of the internet and discovered the furry community, Artica was one of the first characters from a group that I discovered that I well and truly latched on to. Through the old VCL website and Yahoo groups I learned more and even reached out to himself. We chatted back and forth for a while, and back when I had the time, energy, and concentration to do so, I began writing a HUGE story called Black Heart Warriors That entered the Extinctioners universe and opened up into a galaxy spanning adventure. I'd always felt somewhat sorry for Artica in that she never got to really hook up with Redford in the Extinctioners story, so the character I introduced was there to fill the gap in her heart.... at least for a while. I don't like changing universes all that much, so I adopted the T.V. show idea of "Something wild happened, but nothing changed." So it would be an insert if you want it or not as it wouldn't really effect the cannon either way. Sadly it is one of a number of projects that never really got finished, even though the additional cast I created I have done other things with since, you just might not have seen them. Either way, I never finished telling that story of the girl who never got her chance and still got her heart broken. Regardless of all that, I love Artica's character, she's stubborn, loyal, fierce, has so much love to give and yet seems to keep veering towards tragedy. If you couldn't tell, I do like characters with a good and tragic backstory or have lived through tragic events.
Straight up though, Artica is just an out-and-out classic. (dem vixens!) it's no wonder even though she was meant to be a background character that she ended up being so popular and stuck around in our hearts for all this time. She might struggle with love, but we all love her.
