Chapter four: Troubling nightmare

I opened my eyes, looking around at my surrounding which wasn’t much. I laid silently inside my tent. Fira had positioned herself up against my back. I looked above me and saw the egg sitting still. I slowly reached up to it and brought it near me. I laid there with my arms around the egg. I could feel a little bit of vibration coming from within it. I smiled. ‘I wonder what kind of pokemon will hatch from it?’ I thought to my self. I smiled as I got that same feeling again from last night. I sighed as I pulled out my phone from underneath the pillow. I sat up quickly. “Shoot we need to get up.” I said. “It’s already 8:30. I still need to make breakfast and pack up camp.” I heard Fira protested.

“mmmm Five more minutes please.” She said. I frowned at her. I plucked her from behind me and shoved her out of the tent. 

“Maybe we can have a nap later but we need to get going.” I said sternly. I moved the egg outside and slowly crawled out myself. I stood up allowing my back to pop. I looked around and saw a couple different pokemon roaming around. I spotted a cute little Spinerak crawling on a near by tree. 

I pulled out Yuna pokeball and called her out. “Good morning Will.” She said cutely. 

Fira merely just sulked, looking at Yuna with a evil stare. I took note of it. I’m going to have to deal with that at some point. 

I brushed the thought away as I was a later me problem. I went to work quickly fixing up some breakfast which mainly consisted of oatmeal mixed with peanut butter. I fed Yuna and Fira too, we ate our food in silent until Yuna chimed in. 

“So what are we going to do today.” She asked.

I looked up into the morning sky. “Well first of all we need to make our way to Violet city above all else. Let me look at the map.” I pulled out my phone and booted into the region map. I found where we were at and quickly determined how much further we got.

“So if we leave here in a few, we should reach the city about 1 in the afternoon. I want to do some training this afternoon before we take on any challenge.” I said. Fira crossed her arms cutely and nodded knowingly. 

Soon after we finished eating, I cleaned up and packed everything back into my backpack. I decided to keep Yuna outside her ball for a bit. Soon we were back on track, heading to Violet city.

I made my way down the path. Fira had assumed her spot above me on top of my backpack while Yuna chose to walk next to me. I held the egg in my arms as I walked. I had a towel wrapped around it. I smiled again as I felt the feeling again. ‘What is this feeling? Is it love, content or just am I really happy?’ I thought to myself. 

I heard my phone ring, thinking of one person who could call. I pulled my phone out and sure enough Liona spelled out on the screen. 

I sighed as I answered. “Yes, Liona.”

“Oh darling, don’t sound like that. I’m just checking in. Have you reached Violet City yet?” She asked in a cooing way.

“Not yet, we made a slight detour. I caught my first pokemon a Sentret and I acquired an egg from someone by the name of Mr. Pokemon. I am about an hour or so out from the city. Why whats up?” I said.

“Oh nothing, like I said just wanted to check in. I told you was going to do that.” She told me.

My eye twitched a bit. “Everyday?” 

“Well I…. I mean you don’t like hearing from me.” 

My tone soften a bit. “No that’s not it, I honestly don’t mind it. Though I do got something to ask you. You wouldn’t be able to see how my mother is doing in my old world would you?” I asked.

Liona went quiet for a bit. “It’s something I am capable of yes, but it’s not the right time for that. I know you must be worried and she is too. However things will work itself out as time goes by. Who knows I may decide to bring her here if you decide to stay.” 

I blinked, trying to register that last bit.

“But don’t fret over it Will. Things will be fine. Uh oh times up, I gotta run darling. Keep up the good work. I’ll check back in a few days.” I ended the call dropping my hand down. I stood there a moment looking down, both Fira looked at me and Yuna did also. 

I quickly brought my hands up and slapped my face. “Nope no sadness here, Let get going. VIOLET CITY here we come.”

Sometime later after a lot of running, which I decided to dash the rest of the way. We looked in awe at the old looking buildings were laid out in an orderly fashion. They almost reminded me of some old school Japanese homes.

I walked through the town looking around for the pokemon center. Normally in the game it was right as soon as you get into the city. However as I am learning quickly enough the real thing had been completely different. I finally found it sitting next to a tower that extend up into the sky. “I can only assume that the is Bellsprout tower.” Before anything I enter into the pokemon center. I was greet by an overly happy Nurse Joy who ushered me in. 

“Does your pokemon need any medical treatment?” She asked kindly, closing her eyes. She gave me a cute nod tilting her head to the side. 

I blushed a bit. “Uhm no, there fine at this moment thank you. May I get a room for the next few nights?” I asked. 

She nodded and motioned me towards the counter in the back. This pokemon center was almost exactly the same however off to one side I could see a cafeteria complete with tables and booths. 

Nurse Joy gave me a keycard and directed me to a hallway that lead to my room. I thanked her and made my way to the room. 

I opened my room and went inside, Yuna and Fira both hopped onto the bed and started jumping on it. Both laughed together as they jumped. 

"Well at least you two are finally getting along.” I said. At this point Fira stopped and pointed up her nose, she hopped down from the bed. I watched her walk over to the window and stared out it. 

My face went blank as I looked at the stubborn fire pokemon. ‘I’m gonna half to deal with that.’ I thought. 

Yuna yawned and curled up into a ball promptly fell asleep. I let my arms go limp letting the backpack fall onto the floor next to the desk. I went over to the bed and fell first into it. I sighed in relief. 

“I think I’ll take a little nap.” I check the time and found it was still a little early.

I fell asleep. I felt Yuna crawl over to me and cuddled up to me. I felt a little sad that Fira chose to continue to sit over by the window.

I need to fix this. But first…..

I found myself in another dark room with the same door in front of me. There was a little more light so I could see around me. My eyes widen as I saw blood splattered on the walls around me. “Where am I? What is this?” I said out loud. I heard movement from behind the door, It opened wide and I screamed in horror. I saw my mother again but this time something was standing behind her. “WHAT IS THIS? THIS HAS TO BE A DREAM.” I yelled out.

“You have something I want human. Though if you keep on the path your taking, you will lose everything.” I saw movement down below on the ground. I saw Fira tattered and torn body lying limp on the floor. 

“NOOOO. Why are you doing this? I haven’t done anything to you.” I fired back.

“No you haven’t….. Yet. HAHAHAHA” Whatever it was the creature behind my mother started laughing loudly, echoing around me. I covered my ears and started yelling for it to stop.

I felt a burning sensation on my hand as I bolted up, looking around me. I immediately found that Fira was blowing a small flame on my hand. “GUH.” I yelled as I abruptly stood up, I ran into the bathroom and ran warm water over it. 

“What the living hell Fira? I know you've been upset with me for catching Yuna but now you’re trying to catch me on fire now too.” I yelled.

“Don’t even try to blame me Will, You were screaming and yelling in your sleep again. It was the only thing I could think of to wake you butt up.” She fired back. She stared up at me. I saw small flames flare from her nostril. 

My anger quickly dropped as I understood what she was saying. “You really need to talk to someone, Will what wrong? You did the same thing the other night at the other center. I’m starting to get worried.” She said. She ran up to me nuzzling my lower leg. 

“Talk to me Will whats wrong?” I looked around and even saw Yuna shaking on the bed. She was staring at me with concern.

My face dropped as my eyes looked at the floor. “I don’t know, I feel like something is coming. I’ve been having nightmares where I see a…. dead version of my own mother. This time was a little different. I saw you on the ground torn and battered. Something was standing behind me. I don’t know what it was. Thinking more of it, I wonder if I should call Liona about this.”

Fira nodded in agreement. “I think you should Will. Mama would be able to give you more insight for what that dream could mean.”

I bandaged my hand up with burn ointment and grabbed my phone. I dialed Liona and placed it on speaker. I took note of the time. It was 8:45 in the evening. So no training today. 

"Ah darling, I wasn’t expecting you to be calling this late. Something the matter.” Liona said picking up.

“I honestly don’t know Liona.” I went into detail of the nightmares I’ve been having. Not leaving anything out. She stayed quiet allowing me to talk. By the end of it, my chest started heaving as I held back tears.

“I’m honestly scared. I feel like that Donmario is influencing me. I don’t know how but just how I feel.” I said.

“Well. It’s not impossible for a pokemon as power as that one would be able to tap into ones dream. Even with the pokemon being somewhere else. I can tell your very worried about you mother. I reassure you that he doesn’t have the power to cross the barriers of existence. Trust me only I have that power. So I wouldn’t worry about your mother. However the fact that he’s getting into your dreams is troubling.” Her voice was as tender with the word she spoke. 

I still didn’t feel any better that dream truly scared me. “I’ll keep a more close watch on you. Don’t be alarm if you ever see me in your dream. I will help you sooth your fears okay?” She said. 

“Ok, thank you Liona. I knew calling you would’ve been the smart call. Thank you.” I said. We both said goodbyes and hung up the phone. I sat on my bed. 

I did feel better but tears started flowing down my face. Fira took this to nuzzle my hand. I picked her up and held her close in a hug. I cried as I held her. She leaned up and pecked a kiss on my cheek. My eyes went wide. 

“It’s okay Will. All is well. Nothing bad a happened. Let’s get something to eat and call it a day okay?” She said.

I wiped my eyes and nodded. Yuna came up to me. “You okay again?” She said. Her concern was even evident on her face. I smiled picking her up with my other arm. I held both of my pokemon and held them tightly.

“You guess are the best. Thank you.” I said to them both. The two simply smiled back at me as I looked at them.

A thought suddenly popped into my head. I remember my egg. I looked around and saw it lying in the bed. It wobbled now and again. 

I put Fira and Yuna down, I walked over picking up the egg. “Okay lets go grab some food and head for bed. We got a lot to do tomorrow.” 

I walked out the room with the two pokemon following directly behind me. 

I waved at Joy who was sitting behind the counter. “Is the cafeteria still open?” I asked.

She nodded. “Yes it is. Though I must ask is everything okay I heard a bit of yelling coming from your room.” 

I blushed a bit, “Yeah I fine, I accidently burned myself.” 

She shrugged and went back to her work. I walked myself over to the café and looked around. They had a buffet of sort in a line. I found a booth to sit at placing the egg down. Fira and Yuna sat on the other side. I went and grabbed us all some dinner. 

I sat down placing our food down on the table. Both Fira and Yuna chowed down on theirs as I started on mine. I saw that they had egg fried rice. I do like this type of culinary. I looked around the café. I could see couple of other trainers sitting with their pokemon eating or doing something. One was typing on a keyboard, the trainer had his phone propped up on something. 

Short time later we finished our food, after cleaning up we went back to our room for bed.

I placed the egg near the head of the bed and laid down. Both Fira and Yuna cuddled up to me. I almost immediately fell asleep.
