Calm day for the dragonrider
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
On a nice warm day the best thing to do is laying under an old tree, doing nothing, enjoying the sunset and the slight breeze. The image portrays a cheetaan and his tani dragon companion, having a day "off", as I imagined them in 2010. A more current (and rather different) reference sheet of the dragon can be seen on DeviantArt: http://jubatian.deviantart.com/art/Tani-Akri-dragon-reference-609132799
These dragons are rather like wyverns or bats, they have no front legs nevertheless they can move around well on ground or climb complementing their rear legs with the clawed paws on their wings. They may also use their rear legs to grab and fly off with some small prey, but their primary weapon is an impulse laser which they use like traditional dragons their breath.
Even though the cheetaan and the dragon has a common ancestor they are in fight, the majority of the dragons come to the north pole (where the cheetaans and wolves live) to hunt which involves practically anything what moves. Without protection against them it would be impossible to maintain a city, and that's what the dragonriders are for: they are the air-force of cheetaan.
The bond between a "tame" dragon and a cheetaan is unlike human - animal bonds: the cheetaan doesn't own the dragon he rides. He is on his own, and may even leave to fly with his own kind from times to times (If they didn't, they would die due to genetic degradation). When they are in the air together the rider's role is to lead him, to do the strategical thinking which the dragon accepts. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to work together effectively since in the nature they have no mission: they don't need to protect a city. When they ride "off duty", the cheetaan on the back may even leave him just going where he wishes.
