I'm going to make this canon somehow because it's so beautiful and awesome, but this is not Dusk Airbase from the first chapter. I love this piece to bits, especially how Hunter looks in his armor and don't even get me started on the landscape!

Very nice looking, but seems Em is in her "civilian" dragon outfit. But Hunter does not seem to be in full combat load out either.

Hunter often flies in armor just to get used to the feeling of it and Em likes to take off the saddle when they find a place to relax for a bit. Of course, when they are entering combat, they have all the gear, but for times like this when they are just looking for a quiet place to sun themselves, they will travel light.

I find the dragon's size a nice and refreshing change compared to the usual literature that depicts dragons as hulking behemoths that weigh dozens of tons. Plus, smaller dragons are much more agile and probably have easier times flying through a rugged landscape like the one depicted in the artwork. Gonna have to start reading the actual story to see what a dragon's role is, exactly, in a more futuristic universe.

As for the art itself, the composition works wonders. It's awesome how, based on the positioning of the characters alone, the art can tell a story in itself. As a book cover, this would work wonders ^^

Small dragons are the best dragons! Smaller means they're easier to snuggle, among other things. Anyways, dragons will pretty always break the laws of physics!

Dragons of legend did tend to be of a size equal to a knights' ego after some drinks. And small dragons could work if the drawing wing muscle attached to the front legs rather than the chest bone, for much more leverage for drawing the wing down.

Alternately they could also fly on low gravity worlds, or worlds with a denser atmosphere.
