High and Alive
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
"You seemed surprised by this." Clare sighed gently to Augustus, leaning her crimson head against his chest again. Her body was softer than anything else while her scent was that of the pine, oak and pale trees all around. It was a scent that spelled natural, peaceful, tranquil. And Augustus suddenly found he couldn't focus enough with it invading his senses. "Do you not... appreciate me doing this? Resting against you? Us being up here? Together?"
"I... think you know the answer to that question, Clare." The human youth replied just as gently, noticing how she seemed to almost drown his face in her red hair on purpose. She was trying to do something here. And he did not mind. He just needed to know something about all of this before he could proceed as confidently as she was. "I am a pilgrim after all. It's not that I don't enjoy this. That I don't enjoy you. You just have to know that the goddess-"
"Needs you you when she needs you. Yes, I understand that, Augustus." Clare replied in turn, reading her human's thoughts and adjusting herself. Her hand tenderly rested on Augustus's leg beside her as she spoke on, "It's no secret, you know. What we want from each other. Since you saved my sister... we've always wanted this. But then there's your duty and the goddess. And you could be called by her any day, thus leaving my village as well as me. Moving on to parts unknown in Felldew."
Clare rubbed her head against quiet Augustus, enjoying his presence and reassuring him somehow. She went on explaining her thoughts, her tail laying over his other leg meanwhile. "But it's alright, Augustus. I get it. Humans like you never stay in one place for long. You don't have a choice. Yet, isn't that lonely? Do you not need this? Even if it might be painful?"
"As long..." Augustus began, nodding his head and placing his hand on the squirrel's shoulder, "As you understand that. As long as you understand that even though we are in love, I can't stay here. I will have to move on. There is a risk to falling for me. It will be painful. I am sorry for that."
"It doesn't have to be painful. There doesn't have to be risk." Clare suddenly giggled, closing her eyes and rubbing still against her human. "Not if you take me with you... when the goddess calls for you."
"I..." Augustus began, feeling shocked. He understood what was being referred but he still had to argue, "That's... What of your sister? Your land? Your clan?"
"They would understand. They already do." Clare stated, now leaning back into Augustus the most and pinning him against the tree behind them. She rested her head in the nook of his neck, against his chest too. "My clan has seen us together, Augustus. And who better for me to choose to be with... than you? The guardian of our tribe, hm?"
Augustus did not say anything for a moment. Then, resting his own chin on the top of her head and looking out towards the land around him, he sighed happily, "Indeed, who better but me to keep you in line, eh? Thank you, Clare."

A little scene between my second favorite pairing behind Nyrina and Ivan; Augustus the Human and Clare the Squirrel. They make an excellent pairing and hey, squirrels are the otters of the treetops. Just as playful if not energetic, ha ha.
This more than cute if not memorable scene was drawn by Shana on FurAffinity, and she deserves a huge round of applause for it: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/shana/

But that squirrel was funnily cute enough, yes. Thank you for that comparison, honestly. And true, Merlin does mention that "LOVE" can be stronger than anything. That was a bit sad. Still, that CHUBBY one who was after the wizard! Ha ha, "WHOOF! WHOOF! WHOOF! He's a grumpy old human!" x)
