The beasts are unleashed!
I attend several short track races every year. Seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling the ground shake when these cars are at full song is like nothing else in this world!
Keith Rocco (National Champion), Ted Christopher, and Rowan Pennink lead the Sunoco Modified field to the green in their 2010 Thompson (CT) Icebreaker Feature.

Auto racing is one of my passions. I was born into a racing family (my Dad is in the auto racing Hall Of Fame), and literally grew up at tracks all over the country. I enjoy all forms of racing, especially short track modifieds (the division my Dad drove). Another passion is photography. And these photos are what happens when the two come together. ;o)

Was your dad Moon by any chance? Noticed the "Burgess" on the photo. If yes, I met him once, VERY nice guy from what I remember, since it was a good twenty-five years ago.
*smiles broadly* Yup, that's my Dad. I'm VERY honored and touched that you know who he is, and got a chance to meet him. Sadly, he passed away in 2010.
25 years ago? Either you were just a kid when you met him or you're a grey muzzle like me! XD
I did read that he passed, and I'm so sorry. Though I didn't really know him and it was just meeting in passing, I could tell from the people around that he was very well liked and respected in the pit . . . sadly I don't even remember which track we were at, never mind which race. But he had a huge grin on his face meeting me, because it wasn't too common at the time for little girls to be active pit crew hauling around tires and tools (at least in the pits where I wasn't age restricted or they wouldn't look the other way).
But yep, I lived for 28 years in central Mass before moving out west. Chances are pretty good that our paths crossed at least once at some track somewhere! I'm not a grey-muzzle QUITE yet, I turn 40 this year *chuckles*
Thank you so much for your condolences. That you remembered him, and his kindness and smile, means the world to me. He was always so happy to meet people, and be around racing. And he went out of his way to make fans feel welcomed and appreciated. And he was that way all the time. He always had a smile and kind word for neighbors or the kid at the local gas station. He was a genuinely good person. He helped strangers and friends alike. At his funeral, the church was filled to overflowing. There were people standing along the back and side walls. No one ever had a bad word to say about him, and anyone who knew him loved and respected him.
Seeing a girl working hard in the pits would have made him very happy! ;o) I remember him talking to Renee Dupuis (a female modified driver). He respected anyone who got behind the wheel, male or female, and would help them out any way he could.
Well I'm very happy our paths crossed again! It's a pleasure to meet you. And thank you again for sharing memories of my Dad.
If you'd like to keep in touch, please drop me a line anytime. I'd love to hear from you. ;o)
You do/see cool stuff :)
Have you ever seen the YouTube videos of the races held at the Goodwood Road & Racing Club? They hold races featuring various vintage racing cars (mostly European and some American) on their own twisty-turny track for various trophies. A lot of the people who watch them think they're more fun and interesting to watch than the F1 or NASCAR races. But don't take my word for it; instead watch one of their races here: http://youtu.be/7hoY84QAoJ8
