This is a setting I came up with when I was younger and wanted to make furry animation memes or a video game about it, but I didn't get far with that. Anyway, some of these characters have been with me since middle school, but I've changed a lot over the years. Some of the characters are also expies from a non furry writing project I'm working on, and I copied over some similar world building and themes as well. Maybe one day I'll write serious stories about this verse, but currently I'm mostly using it for weird porn and maybe rp on occasion.

Anyway, Oneira is a dream world. It's hard to know what the denizens of Oneira are in waking life, and most don't even remember their waking lives while in Oneira, nor are they aware that they're dreaming. Oneira is a parallel reality and a nexus between several others.

However, those with the most awareness are called Authors. Authors have the ability to shape the world, and even alter its timeline. Many Authors appoint themselves to positions of power and form kingdoms around themselves, but some remain in hiding. There's often conflict between Authors. 

Archivists or Chroniclers is what those who are learning the mechanics of Oneira but don't have an Author's control yet are called. There isn't a strict differentiation between the two terms but often those who call themselves Chroniclers work closely with an Author and might have formerly been an auxiliary, and those who call themselves Archivists don't. This lends itself to Archivists often being in conflict with Authors and wanting to know their secrets, while Chroniclers are often sworn allies of Authors and are more focused on upholding the Author's vision.

Authors can also create auxiliaries by sharing their power with others. Auxiliaries typically don't know how to shape Oneira directly, and are limited to certain abilities that were given to them.

Storylines
The first story I came up for this world (that I initially wanted to be shown through animations to songs but I don't have the patience for that these days lol) is about a lonely and unstable fox named Xavier wanting to be seen. He has another being, Haven, in his mind who leads him to kidnap the runaway prince of the Midnight Empire, Jaz to hold for ransom. Eventually his sister Charlotte and her friends go after him and Haven and Xavier begin to kidnap more people, but are eventually convinced to stop (mostly it's Charlotte not knowing why Xavier did this and saying that she'd loved him before leading to Haven wanting to stop interfering and feeling like he was ruining Xavier's life). Maybe I'll write out some of it one day.

I also had vague ideas related to Charlotte's friends being trained to become Archivists but I'm not sure if this happens during the events I listed above or after. I'm imagining while they were trying to stop Xavier, they didn't know much about how Oneira worked, but after seeing the nightmare powers Haven gave Xavier, it made them want to learn more.

Characters
Charlotte: Xavier's older sister. A red fox with black wavy hair and golden eyes. Part of a noble family, and her and her family members are all auxiliaries of the Midnight Emperor, which has given them halos that float over their heads and minor light related powers. A newly minted knight of the empire, while she secretly learns about how to undermine it from Fini, Ava, and Nary. She's very extroverted and exuberant.

Xavier: Charlotte's younger brother. A completely black fox with red eyes. Like Charlotte, he was originally an auxiliary of the Midnight Emperor, but after kidnapping the prince and then turning himself in, those powers were stripped from him. He also had 'nightmare' powers that allowed him to corrupt and control small portions of Oneira, similar to what an Archivist or Author could do, but he could really only do this when Haven was controlling his body or at least in the background and lost these abilities when Haven disappeared. He felt betrayed when Haven left. He's generally shy and introverted. He was meant to become a knight originally, but was never interested in that, and was bullied in training so he dropped out.

Haven: An entity that took residence in Xavier's mind and who sometimes controlled his body. Who knows what Haven really is. He appears exactly like Xavier, only with 'x's' in his eyes. He left Xavier because he realized him trying to help Xavier get the attention he craved was actually putting him in danger and further separating him from his friends. He later encountered Halcyon, who tried to help him learn other ways to help Xavier. He tends to have intense emotions, especially anger, but also really does care about Xavier a lot.

Halcyon: A raccoon dog with golden brown fur and also a Chronicler. Previously, he worked for the Midnight Emperor, but now he's a free agent.

Fini: Supposedly Fini is short for infinity. Fini is an Author. They have a mix of whale shark and serval features. Their skin is like that of a whale shark, but they have ears like a serval's. They also have clawed hands and feet, and a shark's tail. Fini is capricious and smug, but they claim to be one of the oldest beings in Oneira and are investigating the Midnight Empire.

Ava: A black hawk avian (she has separate wings and arms and she has mammalian features like breasts but is covered in feathers) and an Archivist. Nary is her girlfriend and they're both trying to destroy the Midnight Empire. She's often intense but reclusive, but can be more playful with people she's close to.

Nary: A doe, and also an Archivist. Her fur is light brown and her eyes are bright blue. She's especially connected to 'hypna', the substance that makes up the veil between Oneira and other realms, that makes people forget about Oneira in the waking world. She gained this connection when she wandered into the hypna filled woods of her hometown but instead of forgetting herself, she somehow understood what it was and became an Archivist. She's mostly shy and anxious, though she'd like to have more friends, but people tend to forget her due to her tie with hypna, which makes it difficult.

Bud: One of Charlotte's friends. A grey cat with green eyes who also works as a reporter. He tends to be calm and quiet, but confident and isn't afraid to speak up for himself when necessary. He's good at getting people (like Nary and Ava) to come out of their shells.

Jaz: The runaway prince of the Midnight Empire, and a gryphon. Also originally an auxiliary of his parents who had some abilities from that, but these were stripped from him when he gave up his crown. He grew up pretty isolated but after running away, he began to make friends, including Charlotte and Bud. He was surprised that Charlotte sympathized with him and didn't want to return him to his family. Unfortunately though, Xavier and Haven kidnapped him for their own reasons. After he was freed, he gave up his crown and decided he wanted to be 'normal' and his parents 'allowed' this for the time being but also cryptically threatened him.

Mira: Bud’s cousin. She has a cat mom and unicorn dad. Her fur is light purple and she has a unicorn horn. Her tail is much fluffier than the rest of her body. She has clawed cat hands but hooves for feet. She works as a reporter with her cousin and is the louder one of the two, but still equally meticulous in her researching.
