KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

The next morning Michael was preparing for his first day as the new security guard. He looked over the notes Freda had given him to better explain his position. It seemed relatively simple at first as all he had to do was ensure no trouble was caused within the building. No harassment to other customers or employees, destruction of property, and a series of other illegal activities which he was entrusted to handle. All of this, again, seemed relatively simple until he read the rest of his boss's notes which seemed unrelated to his job.

Michael had to partake in some sort of imitation process should he choose to stay after completing his first week on the job. One of the requirements was bringing fresh donuts every day during those same six days. While Michael was puzzled over the subject of the initiation he chose to go along with it since he already went to the trouble of getting the position. Taking one last look at himself Michael felt assured he was ready for his first day as a security guard and exited his apartment. As he left he noticed that Foxy wasn't doing the same. This seemed odd to him as he assumed every employee had to get ready at the same time. For a moment Michael thought about checking in on the vixen until he remembered the threat Foxy had made to him yesterday about prying into her business. Immediately, he reconsidered his idea of inspecting the fox and went straight  past her apartment and didn't look back. He climbed on board a bus at the nearby stop and proceeded on his way to work - but first to the nearest donut shop.

After purchasing a box of assorted pastries, Michael arrived at work just in time. He knocked on the restaurant's front doors before Freda opened the door for him. "Ah, Mr. Schmit. I'm glad to see you here and following instructions." She smiled, pleased to see him with the requested goods. Michael smiled in return and accepted his boss's compliment as he walked past the brown bear and set the box on the nearest table. Freda took a quick glance into the box and picked out one of the donuts with strawberry icing and sprinkles. As she took a bite into her treat Freda noticed Michael hadn't done the same and just looked everywhere but in her direction. She figured her new guard was shy and wanted to correct that. "Mr. Schmit, there are more than enough donuts for everyone. Why don't you sit down and enjoy one?"

Michael was a bit taken back but didn't argue with Freda's offer. He grabbed one of donuts and began to chew on it. As the two sat down they started to talk. Michael asked where the others were as he had not seen them since yesterday to which Freda replied saying that Chica was in the kitchen prepping for their opening hours while Bonnie was most likely sleeping back at their apartment. The use of the word 'their' caught Michael's attention. He asked what his boss meant and Freda explained that her two friends found each other sleeping more comfortably in each other's arms. Michael found this interesting as he never thought the hen and hare were together as nothing seemed to indicate such a notion. He was ready to ask for more details but Freda said it wasn't her place to share personal information amongst employees. Michael respected this and decided to change the topic towards a certain red vixen and what she knew about her. Freda's face immediately fell which indicated she didn't enjoy talking about her supposed friend. Her face was mixture of sadness and anger. Michael, remembering yesterday when his boss was upset, acted fast and changed the subject once more, this time about Freda herself. The look on his boss' face became  indignant. He immediate froze, thinking he had made another mistake and possibly his last, but the she-bear's face softened which gave his some relief.

"You wish to know about me, Mr. Schmit?" She asked, carrying the same surprised emotion in her voice as on her face. Michael, unsure which answer would be worse for him, nodded his head and said yes. "Yes, Ms. Freda, I'd like to hear your story if you don't mind."

Freda was pleased to hear of Michael's interest and began telling her family story. She started with her grandfather, Freddy Fazbear Senior, who first opened the restaurant after being retired from military service due to injuries he received in battle. While he made a full recovery and was given a Purple Heart the officers above him decided he was not suited for future combat much to her grandfather's dismay. He returned home to his former occupation as a busboy until he formed the idea to start his own business, a restaurant to be specific. He worked harder than ever before, even earning some envy from his coworkers, saving up the money to start his business. His girlfriend, who would eventually become Freda's grandmother, wasn't certain on the idea but Freda's grandfather was stubborn.

Freda laughed as she recited a quote her grandfather once said when he first had the idea of opening a restaurant. "If I can't serve alongside my brothers on the battlefield then I'll serve them the best damn meal they've ever had when they come home."

Michael shared in his boss' amusement before she continued her tale. Her grandfather started his business with the help from some of his friends and eventually had people coming from the next state and over to try eating at his business. Some offered to turn his business into a franchise but he declined their offers one after the next. When asked why her grandfather would make such a hasty decision Freda explained that her grandfather opened the restaurant to honor his friends in the military. If he were to turn his business into a franchise then it would no longer present that message. Eventually her grandfather had a child, Freda's father, named Freddy Fazbear Junior and began teaching him how to run the restaurant. Michael took a moment to ponder and found it strange how the Fazbear family names all seemed to parallel but he kept this thought to himself. Freda continued and the guard returned his attention just as she began covering the time just before she and her friends were brought into the world.

When Freda's father became the new owner he had restaurant converted into a pizzeria with his face as the building icon. It was only a few years after her father took over the business that Freda's grandfather had died from a heart-attack. Her voice lowered, almost to the point of becoming a whisper, as she took a moment to share her regret not being able met him after having heard many stories about him from her father. Michael sat in silence and was ready should his boss need his shoulder to cry on. It turned out he didn't have to as it was a moment later that Freda had regained her composure and finished the story by telling how she and her friends took over after her father was forced to retire after a storm of negative publicity. Michael was was left fascinated before Freda ask him if he wanted to discuss something else. He didn't get the chance to answer as they heard a knock on the restaurant's front door. Michael was prepared to stand up and see who was knocking but Freda suggested that she would inspect the entrance while he visit Chica in the kitchen. Michael, seeing no reason to argue, obliged and the two went their separate ways.

Upon entering the kitchen Michael found Chica rolling some dough while various pots and pans sizzled with food being stewed behind her. The hen had noticed his arrival and greeted him with a smile and wave before resuming her work. Michael, seeing as he was only in the kitchen as a request from Freda, asked if Chica needed help which she accepted. She placed him in charge of rolling the dough while she inspected the pots cooking behind her. As the two worked they started to talk and Michael eventually asked about Chica and Bonnie's relationship before explaining Freda had suggested asking her for details. The hen sighed as she explained everything. It all began during the time the four were still a local band. One of their performances was at the local shopping center and had hundreds of fans showing up. Freda had her and the other girls practicing almost non-stop which brought a lot of stress on them. They had their own ways of dealing with it and her and Bonnie's relationship was the result of one.

It was late one night when she found Bonnie trying to get a late night snack before pulling her friend aside to talk. Her friend mentioned the idea as a joke that they should sleep in the same bed which Chica thought was an actual good idea. Bonnie was stunned, surprised her friend was being serious, but with some convincing she eventually conceded to test the idea and it worked out in the end as both found themselves sleeping much more peacefully since. Despite that their musical careers had come to an end they still retained this bond but there was a time when they were apart and discovered how much they needed each other. Before she could continue the sound of a metal door being opened was heard as both Chica and Michael turned to see a somewhat drowsy Bonnie having entered the kitchen. She approached the two and greeted them, pecking Chica on the cheek as she passed her friend. Chica blushed as Michael just stared with nothing to say. Bonnie noticed their expressions and chuckled as she left the kitchen. Michael and Chica stood in silence before the yellow bird spoke up.

"I should have warned you that our bond developed some benefits over time." She chuckled with embarrassment before resuming work with the food, Michael fell a suite and the two remained silent as they worked.

After helping Chica preparing enough food for lunch time Michael left the kitchen and walked back into the main room. Upon entering the room he found Freda and Bonnie talking to an elderly hare. His fur was a dirty gold and he wore a brown jacket and hat. He could hear the trio talking until he walked close enough for them to notice him. The old rabbit was first to speak, curious about the new arrival. "And who is this fine gentleman I see."

"This is Mr. Schmit. Our new security officer." Freda's answered before turning towards the man in question. "Michael, this is Mr. Trappe. He was a friend of my grandfather who I told you about."

"A pleasure to meet you, Michael." Mr. Trappe smiled as he shook hands with the security guard. "You may call me Springtrap. It's what Freda's grandfather used to call me back in our war days. A shame he's not around for you to meet him."

"I understand." Michael responded. "He sounds like a wonderful man."

"Indeed he was." Mr. Trappe said. "If I may, I've heard of how Freda stood up for you against her father so you could have this job. A piece of advice from me: don't squander that trust she put into you. You'll sorely regret it when Mr. Fazbear comes around."

Michael's eyes widened with horror and was prepared to speak when the sound of the front door opening caught everyone's attention before looking over to see Foxy having just entered the building with a bag slung over her shoulder. The Crimson vixen didn't say a word as she passed group, not even saying 'hello' as she picked up a donut from the box before entering the ladies restroom, locking the door behind her.

Mr. Trappe shook his head. "I was afraid of this. Seems Foxy still hasn't gotten over the incident. I had hope she'd come around at this point."

"Trust me, gramps." Bonnie spoke up. "She'll never let that go even if Freddy himself told her to."

Mr. Trappe couldn't help but nod his head in agreement. Checking his watch he decided it was time for him to leave. He said his goodbyes to the trio and wished Michael the best of luck in his time as a security guard. Michael thanked him for the support before Freda escorted the elderly hate to the front door. When she was out of sight Bonnie turned to Michael and grinned. "So you ready for your first day, big man?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." Michael replied. The purple rabbit chuckled with a grin before hopping onto the main stage and readying her electric guitar. Michael kept his attention on the rabbit until he heard the recognized sound of a large vehicle's brakes being applied. Before he could ask Bonnie had the answer to his curiosity. "Oh good. The field trip kids have arrived."

Michael could only pray his first day would go smoothly at this point. As the front doors opened and wave of children rushed inside, Michael prepared himself for whatever may happen next.
