Now, however, I use the same skills since I don't have a working printer/scanner nor that Corel Essentials III program that Corel used to have. they discontinued that feature in all of their upgrades since. It is not on any other program they sell either, nor is it sold on anyone else' program from any other company. Now I just use photomorphs of backgrounds built from overlays (line art over a photograph in a layer), blocking in flats or selected areas to block in color for the diverse backgrounds. I use distort a lot too. This is easier than drawing the whole thing.
Your atmosphere would be enhanced by this method since your art style is simplified using close-ups to focus the story instead of contrast with the background. But when you need to do backgrounds, ( showing the view from the backseat through the windshield with the seatbacks and the two in front backs and the inside of the car would have been a more complex but easier background. sic).
