Being a thief is a lonely "occupation", and laying low, an essential part of any crime. A clean getaway is what separates the professionals from the random crooks. And people only serve get in the way of my gold, a pet such as a snake makes for a faithful companion, and a reliable source of venom I might add. I only trust my closest contacts with my identity. A pity, but it is one of the sacrifices we have to make for our vicked way of life.
