He is a "feral" or at least non-antro, four-legged dragon. The difference is pretty minimal since they have dexterous paws/hands and are quite capable of grabbing the hilt of a sword (or a virgin maid).

My original vision in my minds-eye for the piece was a bit different. I had planned to be closer for a tighter shot and have less in the surroundings.Once i got to work, it evolved as I tried things. The basic pose and the cross were kept from my original idea as well as the simple lighting with strong, deep shadows. However, I found that adding a small altar and altar stone, for some reason, improved it. Adding a chalice on the altar started to make it too fancy and get away from the stark look that I wanted, so I left it out. Those familiar with the Christian religion can assume that it and other items normally associated with the altar are stored inside the altar.
