The Valis twins were humble junkers, doing their everything to simply scrape by. It's not the easy life, sure, but it obviously served them well enough.
Yes, I know, they reeaaaaaaally don't look very sci-fi in this picture. But, what do ya expect? They live in the outer rim, where most technology and advanced textiles are reserved for only the more wealthy of individuals.
