Chapter three: Violet City and the Bellsprout tower

I looked around me, somehow I found myself in a dark room that had a moldy smell about it. There was another under lying smell that I couldn’t exactly place. I squinted my eyes to try to see better in the darkness, I could tell that I was facing a door that had a small amount of light protruding from the bottom. I could here talking outside.
“Why did you leave Will?” I heard someone say, the voice echoing around me. “Why did you leave me alone? Please come home.” It sounded much like the voice of my mother. I looked around me and saw no one.
“Mom?” I said, the voices outside the door stopped. I heard foot steps drawing close to the door. Soon the door opened and what I saw scared me. I saw the rotting corpse of my mother. Blood was dripping down from her eyes and they were sunken in. “NOOOOO!”
I screamed as I felt myself fall.

I landed face first on the floor. I immediately sat up looking around me. I was back inside the room of the pokemon center. I breathed a sigh a relief as I realized it was just a nightmare. I looked back on the bed and saw Fira staring at me intently.
“I’m okay Fira, I just had a nightmare.” I looked at my pokegear which I just called a phone considering it acted much like one anyway. It was quarter after seven in the morning. I noticed that the morning sun was shining through the gaps between the blindfolds of the window. I stood up, straightening my back.
“Are you sure Will, you were tossing pretty badly? What were you dreaming about?” She asked me jumping into my arms nuzzling my bare chest. I smiled, I reassured her that all was okay and not to worry.
Though I wonder why I would have a nightmare about my mother like that.
I shot the thought out of my head, “Lets get ready to go. I want to get a head start on the day. I want to be in the next town by tomorrow. I figured we’re going to be camping half way there so lets get ready.”
I went to work packing up everything making sure not to leave anything. Though most had been packed last night before we went to bed so there wasn’t much. Just a few odd and ends to pack. Once I finished I pulled my oversized backpack onto my back. I tussled from side to side, feeling the overall weight of the pack. Once satisfied I looked at Fira motioning her to jump up into my arms. Though I did thought that maybe I should put her in her pokeball but thought against it as she would give me someone to talk to while I walked.
I left the room with a smile on my face. I looked around the front of the center for Joy which I found her sitting behind the counter eating breakfast. I turned my keycard in and thanked her for letting me stay.
“Anytime Will, It’s my job to help trainers out. See ya around.” I bid her farewell and walked outside. The morning sun was shinning brightly as a cold wind blew past me. I shivered a bit putting my hands into my hoodie pocket. I pulled out my phone and boot up the region map. I carefully studied it for the right path to lead us to Violet city. I found almost instantly that the map differed a lot from what I was use to when I played the game back in my world. The map showed several different roads that connected to different parts of the region. “So the route system I know was totally useless.” Even the number identifying the routes were different. It was completely by chance that 49 and 29 was there. I saw more road leading off in different directions. Though getting back on track, I found the correct route that would lead us to Violet city. Satisfied I pocketed my phone and headed towards the edge of town. Still there were only two ways out of town. One road headed north that branched off shortly after and the other headed east back towards New Bark town.
Fira decided to make the top of my backpack her spot to lay on. She curled up into a ball and fell asleep again. I simply smiled at her, I than looked forward and found the path.
Short ways down the path I heard my phone start to ring. “Who could be calling me? I don’t know anyone.” I pulled out the phone and answered it.
“Why hello Will how is your first day in the pokemon world going?” I heard a familiar voice come across.
“Arceus?” I stumbled on my words.
“Yes who else could be calling you?” She said, “Though I much prefer if you call me mama, please.”
My face went blank as I heard that. I stayed quiet for a second processing that remark.
“Oh did I blow your mind with that simple request?” I heard her laugh at me. My face grew hot from embarrassment.
“Aside from that, how are you doing this?” I asked.
She laughed again. “Well I’m using a phone of course. What did you think humans were the only ones capable of using such things?” My face grew even hotter. It made me stop dead in my tracks. “Oh come now, I was just checking in with you. Be prepared I’ve decided that I will be keeping track of you and your overall progress. If that okay, is it not?”

“I… I mean I don’t mind but calling you mama is definitely out of the question come up with something else for me to call you if you don’t want me calling you Acreus.” I said back. I started walking forward again.
“Okay how’s Liona sound. I rather like that name.” She said back, I could still hear some amusement in her voice.
“I don’t mind it one bit, if Liona is what you want me to call you then Liona it is.” I said to her, sounding a bit annoyed.
“Oh there’s no need to sound like that. I mean you should be a bit grateful to me. You get to go on your very own pokemon journey. You know this would be considered an isikai in your old world, right?” I felt my eye twitch at what she said. “Good now how are things going. How is my beloved daughter doing? I know it’s only been one day but have you been taking good care of her?”
“Yes I have been spoiling her a bit. I got her a stuff pokemon plushie to chew on. She currently asleep above me on top of my backpack. We’ve head out of Cherrygrove city and headed towards Violet city. I don’t exactly know where to begin, so I decided to take on the Gym challenge.” I said to her.
“That honestly a good move to make. Last time I heard anything about Donmario was that the pokemon was roaming hoein region so by doing the gym battles would give you experience. I proud that you thought of that all on your own. You’ll need money to fund your journey so be sure to win. Anyhow I have to go. I have a meeting with the king of the distortion world soon. I don’t want to make him wait. I’ll call you at some point in the future. If you need to get a hold of me just call this number back and I’ll answer.” I said goodbye and hung up.
“THIS IS NOTHING LIKE THE GAME I’M USE TO!!!!” I yelled in a bit of frustration. “I…..” Once again my phone began to ring again. I looked at it, Professor Elm read across the screen. How did he know my number?
“Hello?” I said nervously. I stopped walking again.
“Yes is this Will?” I heard Elm’s voice come back across.
“Yes it is, I already know who this is. How did you get my number I didn’t have this until after I met you?” I said.
“Oh I called Joy in Cherrygrove’s pokemon center. She kindly gave me the number. Allow me to get straight to the point. You should be right outside Cherrygrove city still. Why not before heading to Violet sitting, go meet a friend of mine named, Mr. pokemon. He works closely with me, going on discovery mission all across the pokemon world. I think it be beneficial to go meet him.” He said to me. I honestly forgot about Mr. pokemon. Though I often wonder what his real name was, it couldn’t literally be Mr. pokemon.
“Yeah, I could do that. It’s not too far north heading from Cherrygrove. I’ll go meet him. Thank you Professor.”
“Feel free to call me anytime Will. Also I must say this for every mile stone you achieve of catching pokemon. I’ll have a small gift I can give you. So keep that in mind.” He said.
“Alright I’ll save your number than. Talk to ya later.” I ended the call and saved his number into my phone. I also did so to Liona number as well since I honestly forgot moments ago.
“Who was that?” I heard Fira say yawning in between words.
“Nothing in to important. Though we’re making a little detour to someone name Mr. Pokemon.” I said to her. She merely tilted her head side way giving a puzzled look.
I pulled up on one of the straps and headed toward another path. Conveniently enough there was a sign that had Mr. Pokemon name written on it. I smiled as I walked down the path. Woods sprawled out farther than I could see on either side of the road. I didn’t see the other path that split of towards Violet. I chuckled as I spotted to two Sentrets playing with each other. One was hopping over the other as the other one cooed at the other. I laughed as the two jumped looking at me.
One decided to growl at me and started to run towards me. Fira saw this and jumped down. “Come now, I mean no harm.” I said. The Sentret looked at me and hissed. It reared its hunches, gearing up to sprint forward.
“Okay if you really want to.” I said. I pulled off my backpack. I popped my neck after I place my backpack by nearby tree. I stood behind Fira who epically stood in a fierce stance. Fire erupted from her back as she readied herself for battle.
Sentret made a quick move that made it blur out of view. Soon the pokemon slammed into Fira who got knocked back a bit but still stood tall. “Use Ember.” Fira opened her mouth and shot four fire balls out. The three of the fireballs missed but one hit the side of the sentret. It hissed in pain, the smell of singed fur soon wafted into my nose. Which made me wrinkle my nose a bit.
The Sentret got a hold of it’s footing again and dashed forward bluring out of view again. This time Fira was prepared as she jumped into the air. She bounced herself off the tree. “Quick Attack.” I yelled with quick thinking. Though Sentret gave me the idea. Who was using the attack since the start. Fira landed on the ground and dashed around the Sentret encircling it. My eyes went wide as the sentret spun around trying to keep up with Fira. For a low level Fira was pretty darn fast. She slammed herself into the sentret which caused the pokemon to go flying into a tree trunk. I pulled out an empty pokeball and threw it. The pokeball hit the pokemon which turned into a beam of light and went inside the pokeball. The pokeball landed moving side to side on the ground. I watched it closely as it kept moving.
After some time the pokeball stopped moving and made a distinct clicking noise. Signifying that pokemon had been caught.
“AWESOME!” I yelled running up to the pokeball picking it up. I threw I hand in the air holding the pokeball. “My first caught pokemon. I just caught a Sentret.” I laughed as I recited a fan favorite phrase. Though with no one around and plus no one would possibly know where it came from. So it fell on empty ears. I did feel excitement though. I quickly called the pokemon back out. It reappeared in front of me. I made a quick note of time and decided to have a bit of lunch. I figured both pokemon were hungry and need to be attended to. I pulled out a first aid kit and stuff to make lunch as well.
I looked around Fira first, luckily she didn’t get hurt at all evening though she got a direct hit from a quick attack. I than went on to grab Sentret who nervously looked up at me.
“What are you going to do with me?” I heard it say, another female. Damn it I hope this isn’t going to be a pokemon version of a harem. I laughed at myself.
“I’m just looking over making sure your not hurt. You did take some of the Ember earlier. Here this will help make that area feel better.” I sprayed on a small amount of potion that I got prior. I placed a bandage over it to keep it from getting infected. “There all better right?”
“Your nice Mister, I thought you were going to do something bad. It’s why I attacked you. I’m sorry for attacking.” She said looking up at me with such cute eyes. I honestly could melt.
“D’awww it’s okay no harm. Are you hungry?” Fira saw this and jumped in between us. I laughed as I realized she had gotten jealous. I turned around towards where I place stuff for lunch down and got to work on it. After a quick lunch, not wanting to lose more daylight I returned the newly acquired Sentret back into her pokeball and place it in my pocket. Surprisingly enough my jeans had a special place to conveniently put pokeballs.
Fira snorted, “Finally.” She jumped from the ground onto my shoulders and finally on top of my backpack.
“Oh whats wrong now?” I said in protest.
“I was hoping that you’d wait a little longer before you started catching pokemon. I was hoping to have some more alone time with you.” That last part I had hard time making it out as she curled up into her normal ball.
I smiled at her and continued walking down the path. I continued to see more pokemon around but this time they scurried away from me as I walked on. More scared then curious of me. I walked for another two miles before I finally spotted a cabin home that sat in the middle of a clearing.
“Cool I made it.” I said out loud. I walked up to the front door and knocked on it.
I heard some stumbling followed by a big noise as if someone fell down. Some a elderly looking man opened the door. He had white hair and long beard.
“Ah you must be Will right? Professor Elm called a head and told me you were going to stop by.” He quickly ushered me inside his cabin. It was rather simple inside. He did have a hallway leading to another room. Though the main area had a sofa a recliner could end tables and coffee table that sat in the middle. I also saw a computer that sat on a desk over in the far corner next to some bookshelves. There was also a fireplace. Cozy little home it is.
“I’m always happy to meet new trainers Let me look at ya.” He said as I stood still. He did circles around me, looking at me from head to toe. He smiled as grabbed my shoulder giving it a squeezed. “Ah yes, I see what Elm was talking about now. You may seem older than most trainers that start out but your no different. You have an aura around you. I see you going far. Which you picked a wonderful time to come. I recently acquired this.” He went over to an incubator that I didn’t noticed before. I watched him pick up an egg from it. It was white with yellow blotches all over it. "I got this from a Daycare near Goldenrod city. It appeared one night there a few days ago and the caretakers recently dropped it off to me. Though I too old to care for such a thing. I was originally going to give it to Elm but since you’re here. Would you want it? Whatever is inside would be yours to claim.” He said holding the egg out. I carefully grabbed it. The shell was hard almost like stone but was warm to the touch. I carefully cradled it in my arms. I looked at it, thinking about it.
“I think you be a perfect fit.” He said.
I smiled warmly as I nodded. “I’ll take it, I just caught a sentret. I also have Fira too.”
“See it be perfect for you. Though I must admit, there’s something else about you that I can’t place my finger on it.” He Said.
You have no idea sir, “Well I’m just wanting to be the best that I can possibly be. I’ve been wanting to be a pokemon trainer and go on my own journey to be among the best.”
He nodded, “You will I can tell. You will be very unique one at that. Don’t ever give up Will.”
So we decided to end it there, we trade digits for future contact. I bid him farewell and went back outside to the late afternoon sun. I looked at my phone, checking the time. It just became four o’clock. I quickly turned around, I saw Mr. Pokemon standing on his porch.
“That path over there will take you back to the main one that leads to Violet city. Be careful.” He instantly read my mind. I thanked him and took the path that he had indicated.
I walked as fast as I could trying to cross a much land as I could before the sun started to set. I only had about two hours of it left. About half way through I decided to go on and set up camp before I lost all sun light.
I pulled my backpack off and setting it down. I pulled out my gear. First I set up my little one person tent as well as the mat that I was going to sleep on. I shivered as I felt the temperature start to drop a bit. I quickly got finished and started on making a fire. I placed a metal rack over the fire. I pulled a small foldable chair out and sat down. I placed the egg on a soft hand towel near the fire to stay warm. I also pulled out Sentret pokeball and called her out.
Fira chose to run around sniffing at everything that drew her attention. I quickly pulled out two dishes and filled them with food for the Sentret and Fira.
“Your going to need a name.” I said looking at Sentret. She merely looked at me smiling. She decided to play with Fira. Fira though wasn’t really having it.
She squeaked loudly at Sentret and ran to my side. She hid behind me. I just laughed. “Come now eat, we going to head to bed soon.” I told them both.
I fashioned myself something of a stew with meat tips and vegetables. I looked at Sentret. Noting how outgoing she was.
“I think I’ll call you Yuna.” I said, the sentret simply cooed at me. She accepted her new name.
“Thank you Master…” I cut her off.
“Nuh uh no, You can call me Will. I don’t like be called master. It just doesn’t feel right.” I said as I petted her.
“Okay.” She started to chow down on the food I place down for her. Fira followed suite though every now and again she would give Yuna the stink eye.
‘They’ll soon be inseparable.’ I nodded to my thought. I dished me up some of my stew and quietly ate my food. I looked up into the sky. The sun had completely set at that point and the moon was slowly moving into the sky. I could see stars filling the night sky. Wondered what kind of space stuff they get into here in this world. I knew there were a couple of space barring pokemon out there.
Something else caught my attention, I saw the egg move a tad. I placed my bowl down and picked the egg up.
“Don’t tell me….” I said, I placed an ear to it and listen carefully. I could hear small movements coming from inside.
I smiled, “So your not going to be in there for to long aren’t ya.” I held the egg close to me. I decided to just sit there and hold the egg closely. Allowing it to get warm from my body heat. Yuna curled up next to my feet, while Fira hopped onto my shoulder curling around my neck. I sighed, I truly felt something. This feeling was awesome. I looked up at the sky and for once I thanked Arceus for giving me this chance. Though for the first time since this morning my thought drifted towards my mother. “I really hope she’s okay.” I said.
“Your worried about your mother aren’t you?” I heard Fira say in my ears. She nuzzled under my chin. “Don’t worry Will. I’m sure she’s okay. Next time Mama contacts us why not ask her to check on your mother. I’m sure she could do that.” I nodded.
I smiled at Fira. “Alright I think it’s time for bed. We’ve had a pretty big day. Tomorrow we reach Violet City. I do plan on doing some training so be prepared for that.” I said. I decided to put Yuna back into her ball and place it near my backpack. I doused the fire and crawled into my tent. Fira decided to cuddle into my arms. Though she didn’t give me much room for the egg. I decided to place it next to my head.
I zipped the tent up and laid my head down and fell asleep.

To Be Continued.
