To continue our conversation from page 13 … I’m not happy with any of our politicians lately. They are all idiots, just in different ways, and none of them really give a shit about the voters, just in getting and keeping any position of power they can.
We used to call it 'Armastice Day', because that really rolls off the tongue, but we switched in 1931, probably anticipating WW II, the same year we started using the poppy as a symbol of remembrance.
Soon every identifiable group will have its own poppy colour.
Nice day here today. Took a drive through the mountains before they close down the highway for the season.
They close some highways down from December 1 to June 15 here because they don't want to bother plowing them, especially the ones where nobody lives and there's no mining or logging ongoing. This particular one follows the edge of the Rockies south from the Banff area to Longview, where the ranch they film the exteriors of Yellowstone is. Nice country, but bad weather can close the high pass with little warning, so once the Tamarack trees are done looking pretty they close most of it down.
Not that they plow much around here anyway, and they never salt the roads; they use sand instead. That's great for the classic car enthusiasts but messy for everyone else.
FurPoc fucked up my knee pretty well. Had to move our own luggage, and elevator failures after big events meant climbing many flights of stairs. I thought if I gave it a rest, I'd be OK. Went to exit the car the morning, and my leg gave out, in a most painful way. The Ortho doesn't answer calls, I'm afraid the local ER will load me in an ambulance and take me to the regionsal medical center. I'm still recovering from the last experience there. I could go right to the Regional, but that means hours in the ER.
Looks like Rita is taking me to the Ortho in person.
I'ts a friggin' winter wonderland here today. 20F, fresh powder on the rooftops, the sounds of shovels scraping sidewalks ... I give it a month before it gets old.
Just went to get the mail in shirtsleeves. Probably sixty-ish at 3:30pm. Got a rare walk in with my Ortho. He thinks that the pain is from overuse, not new damage. Got another injection. Brought me back for xrays next week. I've got a brace on and a cane, enough to get around. At least it doesn't seem to be broken or anything. We'll see.
Had to stop by my favorite bodyshop. Tried to change the license plate, and....nothing. An hour later, and it's fixed. It involved impact tools, a grinder, and a chop saw. BMW uses a plastic rear plate holder. That bolts to the car with two threaded nutserts. So far, so good. The plate attaches to four capture nuts in the plastic holder. The screws seize in the nuts, and spin the nuts. You can't take it apart without destroying stuff. This is the second time the plate has seized to the car. Ended up grinding off the captive nuts, and installed threaded clips, and sturdy bolts. Now I just need to replace the chewed up license plate, and the destroyed frame. CT offers special plates for an extra fee. I've got the Bobcat 'wildlife' plate. But, it's a vinyl wrap. In about 5 years, they delaminate and look like shit. Don't know if there's a charge to replace them. Guess I'll find out. Going to call the dealer Beverly Hills BMW to see if they'll send me a new frame.
Snowing and 12 F here, plus the wind chill made it feel like 0 F. Went for a brisk walk with the dogs. They loved it, the stupid beasts.
50 something Lesbian comes to counter.
"My Kia has two lights on the dashboard; the tire thing and the oil thing. I'm going to wait......"
I was there a while, but not near as long as I'm sure she'll be waiting.
My RV still has real gauges, but I have to check the oil and antifreeze on the cars at intervals to be sure everything is okay.
Got a phone call today from Judicial branch. They want to talk to me about a particular judge. . Interesting....
