This chapter seemed off; not up to your usual. The premise is good; being sent into foster care can be rough on anyone, and it builds on Wally's character to have him come see Birch to escape. But it sounds scripted. First, Wally goes from distressed-but-controlled to ranting with no transition at all; not even half a sentence. Second, his thoughts are jarringly well-formed and coherent when compared to how distressed he's supposed to be. Granted, he presumably had a lot of time to plan it on the way over, but even so I don't find it believable that it would all come out so clearly. And finally, the song didn't really seem to fit in with his mood. While it's rather wistful, it's overall quite a cheerful song, very much at odds with the intended mood of the chapter. I'm also not a huge fan of the rendition, but that's taste; also, I expect a soprano is difficult to convert.
Sorry again. I hope you're not offended.
