I found this little device very interesting. It is a metal sun visor raised and lowered from inside. You can still get a Fulton Exterior Sun Shade for cars of this era. Presumably otehrs make this part as well.

Living in snow country, I wonder if this might be a good option for helping to keep snow off the windshield. It had to have killed gas mileage, though.
