Celebrate A Holiday Homecoming

At SOFIA House, the holidays are an important time for families who are rebuilding their lives after leaving violence. For many women and children, this season is a chance to create new memories and traditions in a home that is finally safe, stable, and their own.

Our Holiday Homecoming Campaign supports families as they settle into long term housing and celebrate the season in ways that honour their cultures, hopes, and healing.

We’re inviting our community to stand with SOFIA families by giving in a way that feels meaningful to them.

Option 1: Give Financial Support
Your financial gift helps cover holiday gifts, grocery cards for Christmas dinner, warm clothing, and essential supports that bring stability and comfort through the winter months.

Option 2: Shop and Wrap Gifts for a Family
If donors prefer a hands-on way to contribute, we match them with a family and provide a wish list and pick-up instructions.

Every act of giving helps families step into the holiday season with warmth, care, and the stability they deserve.

Breakfast at Shannon’s Pub

Shannon’s Pub and Grill at 2118 Robison Street Regina is hosting a breakfast Saturday March 17th! There will be donation boxes and proceeds from breakfast will be donated to SOFIA House.

Baskets of Hope – Thank You Rohit Communities Regina & Donors

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of everyone who attended and donated to the Baskets of Hope event this week. Special thanks to Rohit Group Regina for organizing this fantastic initiative.

The 36 baskets we received today are overflowing with gifts for our SOFIA House residents to celebrate Mother’s Day. Thank you for thinking of them and helping to ensure that they have the ‘little extras’. Often mothers focus all of their energies and resources on their children, forgetting to pamper themselves, your thoughtfulness will have a significant impact.  

You have made our residents feel special and are helping them to move forward from the life they left behind. From the bottom of our hearts… thank you!

Baskets of Hope

Hearts in the Park – May 31, 2017

Hearts in the Park is a community effort by Circle Project, Regina Police Service, U of S College of Nursing – Regina Campus, and SOFIA House with support from the Department of Justice Canada. The event is being held during National Victims and Survivors of Crime Week and is focused on raising awareness of the impacts of violence.

The theme of the event is “It takes HEART to talk about it” and our goal is to raise awareness about the issue of violence in our community.  We believe we need to let others know it’s okay to talk openly about violence, share how it affects all of us, and break the stigma.

The event is an opportunity for people to: learn about how to access resources (for victims and perpetrators); learn how to recognize the signs of violence; and understand the cycle of violence.

We hope you will join us in Victoria Park on May 31st from 11:00am – 1:00pm to learn more and sign hearts with the relationship of people you  know that have been affected by violence.

2017 Mrs. Canada Globe Pageant Supports SOFIA House

The 2nd Annual Mrs. Canada Globe Pageant was held in Regina on March 17-18.  The 2017 event was a fundraiser for SOFIA House. The pageant is made possible through the support of the Regina Hotel Association, Eye Inspire Events and What Women Want.

The pageant celebrates the beauty and diversity of women across Canada. Thank you to those who came out and support this wonderful and stylish event with proceeds being donated to SOFIA House.  Thank you to the organizers, sponsors and supporters of this event.  Find out more.

Premier’s Ball Donation – Thank You!

We would like to extend a very sincere Thank You to Premier Brad Wall, the Saskatchewan Party and all supporters of the Premier’s Ball event this past August.  The generous support resulted in $42,000 being donated to SOFIA House.

We are grateful to have been chosen as the benefactor for the 2016 event. The donation will help us to enhance programming for our clients.

Recent media exposure

SOFIA House has received recent media attention.  Matthew Mickelborough, without consulting SOFIA House, designed a t-shirt for sale and decided to send half of the proceeds to SOFIA House as donation.  SOFIA House was first contacted by CBC asking about the proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts.

After discussions with our Board of Directors and with Mr. Mickelborough, we at SOFIA House have decided not to accept the donations from the sales of the Jian Ghomeshi t-shirt in hopes to discourage the negative messaging that the t-shirt promotes. We thank Mr Mickelborough for reaching out to SOFIA House and hope we can work together in future endeavors.

As a second stage shelter, our focus is helping families who have been victim to domestic violence and we work to empower women to be leaders in their family.

SOFIA House has full faith in the legal process and encourages all women who have been victimized to come forward when it is safe to do so.  As well, we reserve judgement on any and all individuals accused of any crime until proven guilty.

It has been moving to see the strength of the individuals that have shared their stories on #beenrapedneverreported in addition to the support shown in the campaign www.yesmeansyes.com. We encourage all who have been victim to gender violence to continue to voice their stories.
