From the very first episode of Beyond the Gates, Chelsea has been terrified of telling Dani that she wants to quit modeling.
Now that she’s finally dropped the bomb, we understand what took her so long. The indignant expression on Dani’s face here says it all:
“Why is this the first I’m hearing about this?” Dani asks her daughter, visibly hurt that she’s been kept in the dark about all of this.
Chelsea tells Dani the truth, that she was afraid her mother would fall apart after everything she’d been through, but it’s not the move Chelsea thinks it is.
Dani sheds a few tears, but she ultimately sees how serious Chelsea is about becoming a designer, so she tears the fashion show contract right down the middle. “I would be the world’s biggest hypocrite if I tried to stop you from chasing a dream that’s calling your name,” Dani says.
Naomi vs. Bill: It’s On!
Since no one will serve her at the country club, Hayley grabs a bite at Orphey Gene’s, where she runs into Jacob. She congratulates him on his promotion, then gets straight to the point: “How can we get Naomi and Bill back on speaking terms?”
Little do they know, Naomi and Bill are already back on speaking terms. In fact, she’s speaking to him at his office right now — even if it is about her suing his firm for sexual harassment.
“If getting my attention was the goal, you succeeded,” Bill tells her incredibly condescendingly, but it soon becomes clear that Naomi means business.
And the more Bill tries to minimize her clients’ complaints, the more energized Naomi becomes — especially when Bill accuses her of targeting him in court simply to get back at him for cheating on Dani.
“I’ll see you in court,” Naomi says. And we will be seated.
But that’s not where this drama ends. After learning about the lawsuit, Hayley takes matters into her own hands, confronting Naomi at the bar: “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
Tomás and Kat Talk About Sex, Baby
Naturally, the Bill/Naomi drama comes up during a lunch date between Tomás and Kat, the latter of whom is practically giddy at the idea of her uncle and cousin facing off in court.
The conversation, as it always does, turns to sex. Though he doesn’t exactly pressure her, Tomás tells Kat that she doesn’t know what she’s missing in the bedroom department, then asks if she fantasizes about him.
Kat shuts the conversation down before she gets too hot, but she’s definitely bothered. Will Tomás change her mind about saving herself for marriage? (Or will Eva get to him first?)
More Trouble in Paradise for Martin and Smitty
Over at the Richardsons’ abode, we pick back up with Martin and Smitty mid-argument.
Smitty is understandably mad that Martin withheld his presidential aspirations, to which Martin responds by reminding Smitty that he didn’t say anything about wanting to return to journalism — as if that’s even remotely the same thing as wanting to run the country.
Ever the investigative reporter, Smitty pushes his husband one step further, asking why Vernon and Anita sounded so dead set against Martin running. Being the politician that he is, Martin sidesteps the question.
Then comes a question Martin can’t sidestep: While dining at Orphey Gene’s, the couple is approached by the reporter who Martin spoke with at the wedding — and Smitty is surprised to hear that Martin turned down a job on his behalf.
Actually, surprised really isn’t the word. Furious? Yeah, that’s the one.
