Where else will you see an MC with an orange mohawk? |
[21 Mar 2007|04:36am] |
It doesn't matter if you're a hip-hop head or a punker at heart. SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC!!! What else are you doing Thursday and Sunday? I've seen Free Minds play to packed crowds, and they never disappoint.

About Free Minds: Free Minds is a group of like-minded individuals who have maintained a strong foundation of friendship over the years. Months. Days. Collaborations between the emcees in the crew are never limited by subject or style and every recording hopefully reflects the positive energy created in the room at the time. World domination is a goal, but mostly Free Minds just want to give back to the culture that helped raise them.

Right now, I live in Japan with my two pet birds. In August, I'll be moving back to OC, where I grew up. However, the USDA has decided that they won't issue an import permit to birds of Japanese origin because of 'avian influenza H5N1.' A disease which even the World Health Organization and the World Organization for Animal Health both agree is not present in Japan, and in fact isn't present for over 1,500 kms from where I'm living.
To make matters worse, one of my cockatiels is handicapped and in need of medical attention I've been unable to find for her in Japan.
Please help me by visiting my website, printing off a letter, and mailing it to the USDA stating your support and asking them to reconsider their decision. And please spread the word. Thank you for your time!

Portland was fun, but... |
[10 Sep 2005|04:31pm] |
The South Pacific is rocking with the biggest storm of the year right now, and the wave trajectory is pointing right at my fine hometown of San Diego in California, as well as every other south-facing beach from Tahiti to Hawaii and Peru to Alaska. Check out this from http://www.surfline.com:
"The initial effects of this storm will be felt in Tahiti on Sunday and Monday with waves in excess of 30 feet on the face at Teahupo'o. We've already put the alert out to most of the world's big wave surfers and many are already on their way down to Tahiti to surf these huge waves. Next up will be Hawaii's South Shores with solid 8-15 foot waves (faces) by Thursday. Skipping over to the other side of the ocean, surfers in Costa Rica, Mexico, and California will also enjoy 8-12 foot waves (faces) by Friday and Saturday. Santa Cruz and many Northern California south-facing areas will also enjoy 8-12 foot waves on Saturday and Sunday. Canada's southerly breaks will be firing with 6-10 foot surf on Sunday. And if you don't mind dodging a few grizzly bears on the beach and surfing off a glacier, Alaska will have great 4-8 foot surf from this swell on Monday." So it looks like it's time to hop back on 5-South. I really hate to leave Portland though. There's lot's I still want to see in this cool, drizzly town. Talked to a girl who's a local artist and wanted to investigate her talent, as well as look into getting into some other arty-art openings... But, I have my priorities.

MU GIVEAWAY (LOS ANGELES) - PLEASE RE-ENTER, ALL ENTRIES LOST |
[25 Jul 2005|06:33pm] |
IF YOU ENTERED THE MU GIVEAWAY LAST WEEK, PLEASE RE-ENTER AS ALL OUR EMAILS WERE LOST WHEN WE SWITCHED SERVERS. THANKS AND SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE!!!
Friday, July 29; 9 PM; 18+ Mu @ The Echo (1822 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, 90026)
Trivia Question: Name three pop culture figures that Mu references in her latest album Out of Breach (Output Recordings, 2005)
“Mu (pronounced “Moo”) is the brainchild of Mutsumi and husband Maurice Fulton. He takes care of the jackhammering rhythms, digital handiwork and sinister atmospherics, but it’s Mutsumi–with her lacerating shrieks and grammatically incorrect English–who presides over the ceremonies. Punctuated by R-rated disses, dysfunctional vignettes and piercing shrieks, her energy is fascinatingly expressed. Mu’s stunning 2003 debut Afro Finger and Gel saw the Japanese-born Mutsumi fashion a lyrical world from our cultural refuse. Maurice’s complex, daring production work was a story in itself, but Mutsumi’s contributions edged it into psychological terrain and made it provocative. Here was Western culture being reflected back to us through the eyes of someone who had watched it from the outside. And what’s more interesting than finding out how someone else sees you?”
Email your answer AND your first and last name to [email protected] by noon on Friday, July 29. The 6th and 8th person with the correct answer will be put on the guest list for the show.
Buy tickets.
