KEVIN KESTER is Associate Professor of Comparative International Education and Peace/Development Studies in the Department of Education at Seoul National University in South Korea.
He researches and teaches the sociology and politics of education and global affairs with a focus on comparative and international education; education, conflict, and peacebuilding; the global governance of education in conflict-affected contexts; higher education peace and conflict studies; and social theory (de/postcolonial and postmodern thought, and critical pedagogy).
His current funded research examines conflict-sensitive teaching methods, diffractive methodologies, posttruth, transrational perspectives, and decolonizing higher education. He was previously Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at Keimyung University (2018-20), and Postdoctoral Research Associate and Joint Director of Studies for Education at Queens' College, University of Cambridge (2016-17).
Kevin’s recent work is published in the journals Educational Philosophy & Theory; Teaching in Higher Education; Globalisation, Societies & Education; and Journal of Peace Education. His most recent book, The United Nations and Higher Education: Peacebuilding, Social Justice and Global Cooperation for the 21st Century, was published by Information Age Publishing in their Peace Education Series in 2020.
Kevin completed his PhD and postdoctoral work at Cambridge University, and graduate degrees at Columbia University and the University of Toronto. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Yale and National Taiwan University.
