Godwin Sabah is a Soil Scientist and professional agriculturist in soil fertility management who works in the Department of the Directorate of Crop Services at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. He holds the Head of the Tree Crops Department at Asuansi Agricultural Research Station and Member of Soil Nutrient Management, Global soil scientist group, and the Network of Soil Biodiversity with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) He was born in Ghana, raised in the family near Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, and completed his Diploma and undergraduate degrees in the College of Agriculture at the University of cape coast and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He continues to be involved in the research field.

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of different rates of phosphate fertilizer (OCP)... more The aim of the study was to determine the effect of different rates of phosphate fertilizer (OCP) application on the post-harvest deterioration of Eggplant in terms of how long it can last after harvesting. A plot size of 200 m2 was used for the experiment with each treatment measuring 2m x 5m in a randomized complete plot (RCBD) design with four treatments (300 kg/ha, 250 kg/ha, 150 kg/ha, and Control) and replicated three times, summing up to 16 plots. Growth data, as well as yield and yield components, were taken on (plant number of leaves, plant height, and yield), as the number of days it will take each treatment to deteriorate (spoil) after harvesting. Data were subjected to the GenStat computer software package. It was observed from the experiment that, the 300 kg/Ha treatment recorded the highest figure in terms of the growth rate parameters than the other treatments, and was closely followed by the 250 kg/ha treatment. This was also realized in the yield that was recorded with the 300 kg/ha treatment producing the highest value. However, the treatment effect on the postharvest parameter was not significant.

ASSESSING THE NITROGEN FIXATING ABILITY OF ANIDASO AND NANGBAAR VARIETIES OF SOYBEAN (Glycine max) IN THE SOIL

The experiment was conducted at the research field of crop science department, University of Cape... more The experiment was conducted at the research field of crop science department, University of Cape Coast, Kwadaso College of Agriculture. The main objective of the research was to assess the nitrogen fixing ability of Nangbaar and Anidaso two newly released varieties of soybean, to know how much of nitrogen each variety would contribute to the soil with depth ranging from (0-10) cm and (10-20) cm. Randomize Complete Block Design with two treatments with two replications. Nitrogen fixing ability and other growth parameters such as plant height, number of leaves and leave broadness were assessed. The result indicated that there was no significant difference between T1 (Nangbaar) and T2 (Anidaso) in terms of plant height, number of leaves and leave broadness. However , there was a significant difference notice with T1 (6.196)(6.057) and T2 (6.737)(6.522) in terms of nitrogen fixed at depth (0-10)cm and (10-20)cm. with respect to plant height, number of leaves and leave broadness Nangbaar performed far better than Anidaso but had the least mean N-fixed. It was therefore recommended that farmers should use Anidaso as intercrop during cultivation or as fallow but use Nangbaar as a cover crop in checking erosion
