For personal reasons, this journal has now moved its primary posting duties on over to dreamwidth, probably forever. I feel a lot more personally comfortable posting my personal stuff there, which makes me pretty sad--LJ has been my major online home for the better part of a decade now, and it's going to be weird having something else take its place. Still.

Posts are going to be locked enmass soon, except for things I remember as linked elsewhere. And I am not going to be crossposting, as I just...don't quite see the point, given how I feel about LJ at the moment. I am going to keep my flist up here, but it's going to be somewhat trimmed for sanity, and if I find/you link me to your dw, and it's active, I'll subscribe to that. And what concerns remain active for me here will be kept, of course.

If this seems pointless, all I can point out is that I am a deeply strange creature in it for themselves, sorry.

If you wish to follow my twitter, it's at cookiepirate, and the dw journal is [personal profile] existence.

G'bye LJ, don't forget the memories.
This made me cry when I was linked to it, so I'm keeping it short here.

The end of Don't Erase my History (you know, that thing with a video that I did for months, that just about drove me crazy) is dedicated to Del Martin, who died as we were finalizing the cut for this. Who helped found the first lesbian advocacy group, Daughters of Bilitus, and who was, by the way, part of the first gay couple married in the US.

Who didn't have to live through watching her marriage get trampled one more time by prop 11 and the intervening court battle.

Reading this article feels a lot like hearing about Del's death and the marriages getting dissolved all over again into one moment.

I just. Fuck. People.

(Also, yeah, that's the Bay Area outskirts. Way to go, people.)

Jan. 11th, 2010

Today was a productive day. And not so bad! And I have hope for the future! But. Humanity marches on as it has, even so.

Here are two links I think you should click on. Carefully, mind, as both are/contain links to some very triggery content. But pass the word, aye? Because in the end, it's something to think about.

rageprufrock and a summary on why you should care about Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

Jan. 1st, 2010

So! HAPPY NEW YEARS. I spent my time GMing a pregen for Fear Itself on the fly. Even though we got derailed, it was mostly to hilarious player anecdotes, so it wasn't a total loss. I also drank absinthe out of a Weis glass. CLASSIEST START TO THE DECADE I COULD HAVE ASKED FOR.

New year means YULETIDE REVEAL. I wrote after a warm winter's grip, for Trish, Natsume Yujincho. I picked up this fandom on the fly, so I was super paranoid about the fic in general because I hadn't gotten much in the way of comments, but the recip squeaked in under the deadline and bam, less paranoia. Whatchagonnado.

I haven't made my way into the Yuletide archive as thoroughly as I'd like to have had, this year, but I did beta a whole list of amazing things. They are, in mostly chronological order:

Never Forgotten - Dawn, the Mallorean.
A bit of fixer-upper, the untold epic of Cyrandis and Zakath.

Broken, We Crossed the Perblances - sherold, Doctrine of Labyrinths, Monnette
Set between books 3 and 4, a few moments in traveling between Mildmay and Felix.

To Each His Thunder, Rain and Wind - labellementeuse. Young Wizards.
Austin AU, and I think an awesome one. There totally needs to be a Dari companion piece, and it needs to not be written by me, despite the temptation. Really. Stop looking at me like that.

Not Your Daddy's Holiday Special - becastaryes. Nextwave.
How Nextwave Does Something To Christmas. What.

And now, I am going to try to inject enough coffee into my system to get home without killing myself. I hope y'all had a good new year's too!
Testing out Deepest Sender on firefox because I don't have Semagic anymore and XJournal blows goats. I'm pretty sure one of the reasons why I've gradually stopped posting (besides twitter being the 5 cent solution when you just have a thoughtscrap: if you want, here's my twitter, follow as you will) is having a client that satisfied me. I think the verdict is "better then most of the alternatives", but I will still miss Semagic like crazy.

Holiday was very low key, but somehow all the more enjoyable for that. On the day of, I saw Sherlock Holmes with ryuutchi and dragon_momma and laughed a lot and enjoyed me some Chinese food and discussion of slash.I have been playing Dragon Age and loafing around a lot, doing things like read Yuletide. Speaking of, this is what I got. It's the texture more then the taste, from Life. There are some cute moments in there I might steal for personal headcanon. I have yet to sit down and do the read I did last year, but I don't feel as much like a stagnant lump as I did last year, so I am okay with this.

(Also, for those who are interested--have a hat tip to pyrefly and go check out the start of her Tanbata Wishes project, something she's trying as a summer (some) Asian rarefandoms thing in the same vein as Yuletide. And if you have a beef with the lack of certain countries on the list, go make your wishes known! As far as this writer knows, enough polite and honest interest makes the different here. Please note the word enough: after all, in this sort of exchange, it takes two to tango.)

ONE LAST FINAL-WHICH DEPENDS ON SOME OF MY WEAKPOINTS AND I AM NOT FOCUSING-CLEARLY THIS IS THE TIME FOR THIS

So, I'm turning twenty five ye gads on January 18th. I am thinking on either the 16th or the 19th, I am gonna have dinner at Sura or San Maru, roughly starting at 6 pm. No one is obligated to bring presents of any sort of variety: I'd rather have y'all there then worrying about spending money on me. But do expect to be spending about ~25$ or more if you want to eat the barbaque. Both places are a short walk from BART too, so the car challenged among us can get around.

RSVP in the comments, deathmatch over the dates or the restaurant, etc.

--also, bless all of you crazy people with the snowflakes. IT WAS TERRIBLY SWEET OF YOU THANKS
As usual, it is the heart of finals season, and here I am using LJ for my todo lists. full of brillant ideas.

Today, I do urge you take a moment of silence for the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Life is what it is, right now. Somewhere between ready and panic for finals, the holidays, and everything else in between. In related tangents, does anyone have any scenes from movies I can easily obtain on DVD where the actors have great expressions where they're laughing? No, seriously, this is for class.
Hello, o 40 watt lightbulb from the manger! Or you can be a person. I'm not going to tell you what you are and are not.

I am gonna start with thanking you for taking on the task of listening to my requests and figuring out what to write. I really appreciate it a lot. You have many metaphorical cookies coming from my heart.

Before I get started on some clarification behind my prompts here, I'm going to talk a bit about what I do and don't like in fic. Generally, I am a fan of just about any of the broad strokes of fandom. I will ship just about anything I want to, canon or not, although I am going to note some preferences and some of the reasons I like things and people in general. And slash (of any gendering), gen, darker and lighter themes (although my tastes tend to go for the happier or wistful ending rather then the sad or depressing), otwhatevers, etc—generally okay with me, although I will note in the clarification to these prompts if I think a certain theme or setup is key to the idea behind the prompt. I do apologize if I manage to throw you with my reasoning behind my prompts, but I hope I'm generally clear enough to get across my point. In writing and stories and characters, generally, I love sarcasm, force of will and wit above all else, if it works with the story. Smarts are a bonus. Character pieces also delight my soul.

But see that first line? Because you're writing me something? I LOVE YOU ALREADY. Have fun with this.

Also, a general warning--I am in yulechat fairly regularly, and I do think I will probably be hippoing this year, so do be careful if you come in to ask for a beta. I'm usually not on from 11 am PST to 6 PM PST, if that helps.

Dragera, Life, Codex Alera, Xenosaga.Collapse )

o~

...I think we're done here. Hearts, mad props, mad love, a good cuppa and all the best luck to you on the writing.

I heard about this, and Santa Rosa is actually my home town so that really sucks D:. Can't imagine why something like that would happen here.

PEOPLE. That is unspeakably horrible. More went wrong there than just the disrespect for their partnership, though it does do a lot to illustrate why everyone needs access to marriage.
