Okay so since I keep explaining this shit I will post it here because I am lazy.
So my right knee has been hurting like a fucking bitch since like January or February. Can't workout, can't put any pressure on it, can't bend it without pain. Those last two are particularly awesome because I work at UPS!
In, um, May? Maybe? I went to go see my general practitioner about it because, well, I couldn't do shit lolz. She looked at my knee and went OH THAT LOOKS WEIRD, as the kneecap basically sticks out farther than it should. She diagnosed it as patello femoral syndrome and wrote out a 'script for physical therapy, but also ordered x-rays to see wtf that bump on my knee was.
Turns out I have a bipartite patella! The two bones in my right kneecap never fused together like they are supposed to and are basically held together like a joint. That doesn't move. Yeah.
ANYWAY.
I went to PT. My therapist wasn't so sure on the diagnosis. She didn't really know what bipartite patella was (lol yeah it's like in 1 or 2% of the population) but my symptoms weren't that of patellofemoral and the normal treatments for that just made my knee worse. Not just good pain, but actually making my knee worse :D
So I had a month of disability from work and did PT. When a few weeks passed and my knee wasn't any better, my PT told me I needed to go to an orthopedist. Yay. She called up the Dr. I went to originally and the Dr. was liek lol r u sur it's not the patellofemoral lolz.
So yeah. I got a referral to and an appointment for my now orthopedic surgeon doctor man. He sticks the x-rays up on the light boardy thingy and goes HOLY SHIT THAT IS A GIANT GAP BETWEEN YOUR BONES. Okay, so maybe he didn't say it like that, but how do I know what he said when he first saw them? I was sitting in the room when he looked! But he poked his head in and said "COME LOOK AT THIS!" and so we went to see the x-rays. The line between the two bones is supposed to be super tiny, but the bones have pulled away from each other to 4mm apart :D So all that pain I've felt for the last, uh, 5 or 6 months - the pain that's been feeling like my bones are pulling apart - is that! Dr. man went I AM ALMOST CERTAIN YOU NEED SURGERY GO GET CT SCANS AND COME BACK!
So I got my CT scans and went back to the orthopedist today (lol there was an hour wait), sit in the room, and he pokes his head in and goes, "COME WITH ME, I WANNA SHOW YOU SOMETHING NEAT!" Honestly, that is what he said. He had the CT scans up on the light boardy thingy so yeah. He ordered the CT scans to see what percentage of the patella was the extra bone so he could decide if he would have to stick a screw in to hold the pieces together or if it was small enough where he could just extract it.
Wow this is a long story. Here is the end.
I AM HAVING THE EXTRA BONE TAKEN OUT.
Lol 8-12 weeks of disability leave from work.
KNEE SURGERY RULES!
