West End Girls
"West End Girls" is a pop song by the British duo Pet Shop Boys. The song is mixed with hip hop music. The lyrics are about inner-city life and class.[1][2]
The first version of the song was released in April 1984. It became a club hit in the United States and some European countries. When the duo signed with British record company EMI, the song was re-recorded for their first studio album Please. In October 1985, this version was released. It hit #1 in the United Kingdom and the United States in 1986.
In 1987, the song won Best Single at the BRIT Awards.[3] In 2005, the song was awarded Song of the Decade between 1985 and 1994 by British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.[4]
