Gosh, it's been a long time since I posted. I actually started commenting on posts again and that was the step I needed to actually write a post! I miss talking to you all.

I'm very excited for the next issue (tomorrow's???) issue of Hawkeye. It looks so good and the art is so smart. Pizza Dog!

Pictures of Daleks invading classic movie posters.

Talking of Daleks, this dalek!Oswin fic is amazing and as fond as I am of Clara, part of me wishes they'd gone this way because it's fascinating.

Interesting post on what hockey players actually eat

OMG Blackhawks! (I have so many Jonathan Toews feelings.) I had to get up at 6.30am this morning so I couldn't stay up to watch the game last night (a regular sleep schedule hasn't really been a thing for the last couple of weeks). Kind of terrified for Game 7. How do sports fans deal with this?

How?

(I'll probably be hanging out on twitter for the game tomorrow night - so if someone you don't recognise with a silvery name has started following you recently, it's probably me. And if you haven't, tell me your twitter name!)

Hockey Recs - alternate universes

Dress Well, Test Well by Kerfluffle
(Hockey RPF. Mature. Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith/Brent Seabrook, Abby Sharp/Patrick Sharp. AU)
A liberal arts college AU.
Because I'm a sucker for University/College AUs and this was a particularly good one. (Note to [livejournal.com profile] glammetalkitten, Duncs and Seabs are randomly female in this one.)

Make It Do What It Do by Honeymull
(Hockey RPF. AU. Mature. Evander Kane/Zach Bogosian, Ondřej Pavelec, Tobias Enstrom, Colby Armstrong, Aaron Bogosian)
It's weird, Zach thinks. There's speculation about the powered population, a whole lot of tabloid bullshit about them being able to sense each other, link with one another, all that sort of sensationalized malarkey. But there's a funny connection Zach feels to Kane as soon as he enters the dressing room.
Fascinating superpowers AU.

make friends, make money, make love, make peace with age by bestliar
(Hockey RPF. AU (always a different sex). Not Rated. Sam Gagner/John Tavares, Jordan Eberle/Taylor Hall/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Magnus Paajarvi, Ryan Jones, Jamie Jones, Shawn Horcoff, Ryan Whitney, Tyler Seguin, Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Moulson)
The adventures of Samantha Gagner, roller girl and actual adult, who doesn’t hate her job, doesn’t hate her sofa, and doesn’t have a boyfriend in Long Island. What she does have is friends.
Because the summary promises awesomeness and delivers!

And these two recs, because after this morning's train journey, apparently I ship Jack Johnson/Sidney Crosby. Or at least I like reading about fictional Jack Johnson (I'm not 100% sure what he looks like in real life yet ETA Ah, him. He looks very different without a helmet.)

Reunited (And It Feels so Good?) by iBear
(Hockey RPF. AU. Not Rated. Sidney Crosby/Jack Johnson, Pittsburgh Penguins Ensemble
Jack Johnson gets traded to the Pens.

Six Times Jack Johnson Doesn't Come Out (And One Time He Does) by boots
(Hockey RPF. Teen And Up Audiences. Sidney Crosby/Jack Johnson. Colby Armstrong, Patrick Kane, Derek Dorsett, Jared Boll, Cam Atkinson, Matt Calvert, Nick Foligno, Sergei Bobrovsky, James Wisniewski)
It's not that Jack doesn't know who Sidney Crosby is. Everyone knows who Sidney Crosby is.

But it's one thing to know who Sidney Crosby is, and another to pick him out of a lineup. So, to be perfectly honest, when Jack shows up at his first official day of practice at Shattuck St. Mary's, gear bag over his shoulder, the lunch and encouraging note his mother packed him tucked in its brown bag under his arm, he has no clue which of his gangly, acne-spotted teammates is the wonderkid everyone's been buzzing about for the past few months.
Six times Jack Johnson doesn't come out of the closet, and one time he does.

I had a job interview this morning and my brain is still scattered and I'd love some distraction from the horrible over-analysing my performance and waiting to hear back stage. So come ask me about the trope meme that I've seen in lots of journals and been itching to do.

Via [personal profile] musesfool - Pick a trope from this list and provide a fandom/pairing and I'll tell you something about the story I'd write for that combination (i.e. write a snippet from the story or write not!fic or tell you the title and summary for the story I would write)

1. genderswap
2. bodyswap
3. drunk!fic
4. huddling for warmth
5. pretending to be married
6. secretly a virgin
7. amnesia
8. cross-dressing
9. forced to share a bed
10. truth or dare
11. historical AU
12. accidental-baby-acquisition
13. apocalypse fic
14. telepathy crossovers!
15. High School / College Band AU

Any fandom that I've ever been interested in (see tags) is welcome. Although ice hockey and comics stuff is where my brain is right now.

1. A video of Shit Robin Fans Say. It's fairly accurate. Embedded under cut - Steph WAS a RobinCollapse )

2. I posted a bunch of prompts (mostly DCU) at the Porn Battle here. Then I saw some of your prompts and they are scarily similar.

3. OK, I've noticed that the name Wesley is frequently used (well, at least twice) when American shows want to create a very British character. I'm English and I don't think I've ever met a British person with the name Wesley, maybe as a surname, but definitely not as a given name. What's that all about, huh?

Fic roundup for January

Because (a) I've written more than one story in a month for the first time ever and (b) I have a feeling that some of these never showed up on my f-list/r-list because I was getting muddled with drafts.

Cold In Your Arms | On AO3
(Captain America Comics. Bucky Barnes/Natasha Romanova. All ages)
Improvements aren't always for the best. Roboarm cuddling ficlet.

All in the suit that you wear | On AO3

Dixie doesn't want to be Batman.

Kisses Like Kicks | On AO3
(DC Comics (Batman, New Titans). One sided Jason/Dick. Warning: Underage character. All ages)
It's Jason's first visit to Titans Tower and when Dick wakes him on Saturday morning and offers to give him some tips on his gymnastics, of course Jason's going to agree.

The pictures with this made me smile so much! People sticking googly eyes on things.

How Has Supergirl's Relationship To Superman Changed?
I like this article about Supergirl. It's one of the few reboot titles that I am wholeheartedly enjoying (after last months Batwoman (or possibly the month before's, this has been in my drafts for a while), spoilersCollapse ). The art in Supergirl is lovely, the writing is decent and although I don't really get excited about it, it is one of the more consistent reads of the new 52.

5 Horrible Life Lessons Learned from Teen Movies.

Does an Indiana Jones and Captain America crossover exist? Because it should.

10 FEMALE Superheroes Who Need Movies

Adorable DC ladies in sweaters by Hanie Mohds.

Awesome post about fictional comics ladies. It includes all my favourites and even a few that I'd never heard of.

If Alfred Was a Playable Character in Arkham City. Despite only having the vaguest idea how games like Arkham City work, this post amused me.

I completely forgot to mention this here but I ended up devouring all of Suits a couple of weeks ago - And I loved it. I haven't got a clue why but the women are amazing and the male leads have fantastic chemistry. Anything that puts more Gina Torres on my screen is a win.

- What on earth does does Damian Wayne listen to on his ipod?

- Why does job hunting suck so much?

- How did the final issue of Batgirl make me cry so much? STEPH! *sobs*

- How did Fabian Nicieza manage to make me almost dislike Tim Drake in the final few issues of Red Robin when I'd remained very fond of him for more than one hundred issues of Robin?

- How did the creators of Rise of the Planet of the Apes manage to keep me feeling sympathetic for Caesar the Chimpanzee right up to the end? I enjoyed it although I spent practically the entire movie in tears.

- Why, when my favourite fictional trope is outsider points of view, did Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross not work for me?

- How is the Black Widow so awesome in the stuff I'm reading and watching? See here and here and here.

- How did I managed to watch ten episodes of The Big Bang Theory in the last two days?

Steve hasn't changed a bit.
A perfect 'Before and After' fic for Steve and Bucky

Things like this don't happen to Tim.
My first reaction to this was \o/ Tim got laid. Hot sweet and funny.

This really amused me and it works perfectly. Also some day I should actually watch Aladdin.

Spoilery photos of Captain America from the Avengers set. I think I prefer the WW2 costume but I really, really, really like the boots.

How to advertise cookware using fanfic Marvel comics style. This cracked me up.

I've been ridiculously ear-wormed by this song ever since I saw Captain America and I want to share.

This picture is extremely relevant to my interests and also to innerbrat's

Interview with Brian Q. Miller about Batgirl. Contains spoilers for all the published issues and a preview for the final issue #24. *sobs* I haven't read the most recent issue yet as I'm waiting until I have a chance to visit the comic shop but I can't believe that it is the end. Oh STEPH!

* * *

I read two ridiculously adorable and kid-friendly comics over the weekend. (Well, probably young teen-friendly but that's a bit long winded.) One was the first trade of Thor: The Mighty Avenger, which is a retelling of Thor's origin and his meeting with Jane Foster. The story is sweet and the art by Chris Samnee is lovely and suits it perfectly and I'm sad that it was cancelled so quickly. Thor's adventures with The Warriors Three made me giggle so hard and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read more Thor.

The second was Nomad: Girl Without a World. It is a mini series about Rikki "Bucky" Barnes, the female sidekick of Captain America in another universe, who was transported to the main Marvel universe and is trying to find her place in the new world. I had to read it when I heard that there was a genderswapped Bucky (although she's actually the granddaughter of that universe's Bucky) ♥Bucky♥ and it definitely lived up to my expectations. It was very school based and Rikki is completely awesome. I was pleasantly surprised by the writing because I hadn't enjoyed Sean McKeever's run on the Teen Titans at all but this had some great character moments and a cohesive story.

* * *

I actually opened a graphics program and I've made three whole Captain America icons that I don't think are terrible. It feels as if I've forgotten everything about icon making because I was struggling terribly with the colouring and also with Photoshop because although I've used it extensively for work, I haven't used it for icons and I spend all my time trying to work out how to do things that I can do easily in GIMP. It is kind of frustrating that the thing I do most frequently in GIMP with a single right click requires a four key shortcut in Photoshop and doesn't appear on any of the menus.

I finished watching Avatar the Last Airbender earlier this week and OMG! So good! Now where's all the fic?

Weren't Crayola colours amazing. I think I had almost all the nineties colours

Awesome, awesome Captain America crossover graphic via seren_ccd

A list of Ten Action Librarians.

I really enjoyed this interview with Amy Reeder, one of the two artists on Batwoman.

First look at the new Superman movie costume. I kind of like it but then I'm not exactly fussy about costumes.

News of the new Ultimate Spider-Man and his inspiration.

* * *

Apparently I won't be hearing about the results of the job interview until Monday because someone is on leave. Aaaargh! I just want to know, dammit.

* * *

I am so ridiculously in love with Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm up to the City of Walls and Secrets (S02 E14) and I just can't stop watching. Katara and Zuko are my current favourites (I want to hug Zuko so badly) and can I have an Uncle Iroh of my own? Please?

A meme via musesfool

1. Comment with any ship from a fandom that you know I have some knowledge about (if it's a fandom I only know by osmosis, this could be hilarious).
2. I will rant about aforementioned romantic ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust or evocations of apathy, depending on what it is.

- Gorgeous art nouveau Firefly posters

- A sculpture made for Superman/Batman fans.

- I am definitely buying this issue of Tiny Titans - Batgirls! Batgirls!. They've even got Bette!

- I saw of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and really enjoyed watching it although I came out of the cinema feeling curiously flat. I suppose it was because is the final one and there wasn't a cliffhanger? I don't know. I'm now desperate to read Seventh Year fic about Neville. Can anyone (lyras?) point me in the right direction?

- I finally watched the first four episodes of Avatar and I am completely charmed. I'm really looking forward to the rest of it.

- My plan for this evening is to reply to comments and emails. I was ridiculously busy last week with job applications and getting ready for my graduation and I barely had a minute to myself. This was the first graduation that I've actually enjoyed, despite the fact that most of the people I'd hoped to see weren't there. I got to wear a very silly hat and robes in my favourite colour and the event was surprisingly relaxed despite vast quantities of processing around The Founder's Building and fanfares from the Life Guards(???).

- Have some recs

This Town We're Painting by faviconFahye (St Trinian's; Teen; Annabelle Fritton/Kelly Jones)
She'd never expected to find herself a government employee. But these days Kelly had a boss who'd never once tried to hit on her, an expense account of apparently exospheric height, and a job that was almost as fun as outright crime.
I rewatched St Trinian's the other day and this is exactly the future fic I wanted. Makes perfect use of the St Trinian's old girls network.

Twenty-Year Man by faviconellen_fremedon (Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold; Explicit; Ivan Vorpatril/Byerly Vorrutyer)
Lord Ivan Vorpatril and Byerly Vorrutyer, making Vorbarr Sultana safe for (highly limited experiments in) democracy.
Fascinating and plotty fic where Ivan accidentally stumbles upon Barrayaran political intrigue and decides to investigate. This fulfills my desire for competent Ivan fic. Which reminds me, there's a new book out, isn't there and I haven't even tried to find it. I must remedy that when I've read A Dance with Dragons.)
