Dear Yuletide writer

Thank you for writing for me. I'm really looking forward to the story you'll write. Any story about any one of these characters would be brilliant. I've included some prompts below and in my sign up because I find them really helpful myself, but feel free to completely ignore them and go with whatever inspires you, even if it’s very different.

I’m not terribly active on dreamwidth any more, but you can find me on tumblr as silveronthetree, AO3 as silveronthetree and twitter as scatteredsilver.

I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character-based stories and also crossovers, time travel and alternate universes, especially canon divergence AUs. I enjoy gen, het, femslash and slash. I adore outsider points of view (even from original characters) and epistolary fic. I love stories about 'how they got together' and friends turning into lovers, but they don't have to end with happily ever after with all their problems resolved (but I don't mind if they do). I like reading about fight sex and awkward first, second or even twenty-seventh time sex. I love female characters so I would be a little sad if they were completely sidelined. I love stories with a strong sense of place. I like canon pairings and obscure canon details. I like stories about all kinds of families. I also like to read seasonal stories if it fits in with the source.

I don't have many "do not wants"- just non-canonical major character death, post-apocalyptic scenarios and non-canonical limb injuries.

Requests

Titans (TV 2018)
Dick Grayson, Donna Troy, Jericho (Joseph) Wilson, Koriand'r

I’ve been enjoying many things about Titans, especially when it gets the relationships between characters right. I’d like to read fic about any of these characters and I’m happy if you just decide to write about one or two of them. You could write about their pasts, their history together, speculate about the future or fill in missing moments from the show. Kory and Donna’s crime fighting team-up was a highlight and more about that would be great. Jericho and Dick’s history was heart breaking, but I’d like to know more about how they got to know each other, or what would happen if Jericho came back to life. Dick and Donna’s friendship has been a part of their lives for a long time - what was it like when they were younger or how might it play out in the future? Or anything involving Dick and Kory would be fantastic. I’d be good with anything shippy for these combinations too.

England Series - K. J. Charles
Archie Curtis, Daniel da Silva

Think of England is my favourite K.J. Charles book and I'd love to read anything about Archie and Daniel, particularly set during or after the events of the book. Maybe a story about their adjustment to working together and being in a relationship, which must've had its tough moments. How does their relationship develop? What was their first official job together like? Daniel's point of view on any of the events in the book would be fascinating. It was great seeing a glimpse of this in the ‘Song for a Viking’ short story and more along these lines would be very welcome.

Green Knowe Series - Lucy M. Boston
Mrs. Oldknow, Toseland "Tolly" Oldknow

I love the atmosphere of these books and the way that the history is tied so vividly to the house and the people who live in it. These books delighted me and scared me as a child. Any story involving Tolly or his grandmother, Mrs Oldknow would be wonderful, by themselves, together, or with other characters from the series. Here are a few ideas you might like to try - What happens to Tolly after the books? Are there any other children that he meets from the past or from the future? What was Mrs Oldknow's childhood like and when did she find out about the Others? What happened during the holidays that didn't appear in the stories? Is there a missing moment from the books that you'd like to explore?

I received a lovely drabble for a similar prompt a few years ago but I'd love to see more fic about these characters.

Grayson (Comics)
Dick Grayson, Tiger, Helena Bertinelli

As you might guess Dick Grayson is one of my favourite characters and Grayson is probably my favourite Dick-centric comic. Tiger was a fantastic new character, and acted as the perfect foil for Dick’s playfulness and I enjoyed the new take on Helena. The spy shenanigans and undercover scenarios made an incredibly fun comic. I’d love anything about these characters, whether it is gen fic or maybe Dick/Helena or Dick/Tiger. Were there any missions that we didn’t see in the comics? What happened after Dick left Spyral and returned to Gotham? I’m relatively up to date with comics so their reactions to the whole “Ric” Grayson thing would be entertaining. Or even a more serious take on the characters and the scenarios they ended up in than in this comic.

Thank you for writing, I hope you have fun and I’m super excited to see what you come up with.

Masks (23050 words) by silveronthetree
(Batman (Comics). Explicit. No Archive Warnings Apply. Dick Grayson/Jason Todd, Alfred Pennyworth & Jason Todd.)

A continuation of pre-New 52 canon.

Jason's back in Gotham and getting to know it again. All he wants to do is figure out how he can successfully help fix his city, without falling foul of the rest of the Bats and the GCPD again. He's even hung up his red hood in an attempt to stay under the radar. A chance encounter with Alfred changes all that.

Jason tries to investigate the suspicious death of a child while avoiding Alfred and Nightwing. He isn't very successful on either count.

When he has to infiltrate a masked gala at Wayne Manor as part of his investigation, he ends up flirting with Dick to stop him interfering with his plans. Dick doesn't realise who he is and flirts back until they end up making out in a closet. Afterwards neither of them can get the encounter out of their heads, and they start to get to know each other again.

This is the fic I wrote for the DCU Big Bang. I had the idea for it 10 years ago and a few scenes of it have been sitting in my drafts since then. The fic is accompanied by beautiful (and slightly nsfw) art by by Lex_of_Gotham here

I read a wonderful Check Please! fic last night and realised that I'd never got around to posting my Yuletide reveal anywhere. Then I went looking for last years post to use as a template (because I like things to be neat), and discovered that I hadn't posted that either. Oops!

Yuletide 2015
Fake it 'til you make it (4376 words) by silveronthetree
(Check Please! (Webcomic). Teen And Up Audiences. Larissa "Lardo" Duan/Shitty Knight, Eric Bittle. Fake/Pretend Relationship)
Five times people thought that Shitty and Lardo were "dating" and one time they really were.
or
The one where they accidentally start to fake date.

Shitty and Lardo are the best and I'm itching to find out what happens next for them. This was my take on it. I was delighted when I first saw the prompt because fake dating is my favourite trope but then I ran into trouble with plot ideas because I was absolutely convinced that Shitty and Lardo were both far too straightforward to pretend to date, whatever the situation. I worked it out in the end but I think I spent most of November discarding every single idea I had for them.

Yuletide 2014
Tea for Three (3760 words) by silveronthetree
(Batgirl (Comics), DCU - Comicverse. General Audiences. Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Brenda Miller)
People change, but Cass thinks that friendships don't. She's about to find out if that's true.
In which Cass introduces Steph to the wonder of tea and they take a road trip.

One of my friends described the common thread of my fics being everyone talking a lot and consuming food. This one involved drinking tea but I think the description is pretty apt and I got to write a Cass-centric fic for the first time which was rad!

I've had a bit of an odd Christmas as my Dad was admitted for an emergency heart bypass just before Christmas. We've had a very worrying time. He had the operation yesterday, as they don't operate over Christmas, and is currently doing well. We're hoping that there will be no complications and that he will recover well.

I received two lovely stories for Yuletide this year.

Why Miss Marple Prefers Knitting to Embroidery (3912 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Miss Marple - Agatha Christie
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Jane Marple
Summary:

A character study about how young Jane's failure to solve her first murder mystery helped her develop into the elderly Miss Marple we all know and love.

This is An utterly delightful story with such a plausible mystery for young Jane Marple's first case. The characterisation was spot on and it was good to see what influenced the development of the character of the Miss Marple we know and love and the cameos and references to the stories were perfect.

Just a day like any other (1355 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gotham Central
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Canon Relationship(s)
Characters: Josie MacDonald, Renee Montoya, Marcus Driver, Crispus Allen
Additional Tags: Christmas, Gotham City Police Department, Slice of Life, POV Female Character, Yuletide 2014, Gen Work
Summary:

It's Christmas, but that doesn't mean much if you're police in Gotham. Just a day like any other for the major crimes unit, right?

It's always wonderful to see Gotham Central fic and I was so happy that this prompt was filled. This is a great little slice of life from the point of view of one of my favourite characters, Josie Mac and of course Christmas in Gotham wouldn't be complete without Harley and Ivy getting up to their usual tricks.

Happy New Year to you all!

I got five fantastic stories for Yuletide this year. Five! Thank you to all the wonderful people who picked up my prompt as last minute pinch hit and also to the orginal author who also came through with an epic story! <3 I loved every one of them.

in the aftermath (1016 words) by Anonymous
(The Proposal (2009). Andrew Paxton/Margaret Tate. Teen And Up Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply)
[for those who haven't watched the movie, it can be summarized thus: a fake engagement to avoid deportation eventually becomes a real engagement, but not without some shenanigans. a romantic comedy with tons of sass.]

tying up all those loose ends. because a love story never ends at declarations of love and kisses. and really, that second immigration interview was quite the disaster, wasn't it? and let's not even think about the backlog of work that awaits...

This story is the perfect answer to what happens next after the movie, because you know that nothing will be perfect.

There Are No Tampons in Dystopia (828 words) by Anonymous
(The Proposal (2009). Andrew Paxton/Margaret Tate. Teen And Up Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply)
Andrew is dispatched to the drug store for emergency supplies.
A fantastic missing moment before the movie and I loved seeing the mixed feelings and the seeds of Andrew's attraction that led their later relationship.

The Honeymoon (8942 words) by Anonymous
(The Proposal (2009). Andrew Paxton/Margaret Tate, Andrew's Grandma. Space AU. Teen And Up Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply. OFC - Freeform, , Andrew's Grandma rocks, AI hologram)
Margaret's work is important, and the folks running the station just don't understand. Fortunately, Andrew has a solution. It's just a terrible idea, is all.
They are SCIENTISTS IN SPACE!!!!! I love this kind of AU that keeps the characterisation and places them in a really well realised universe. I loved the parts about Margaret's struggle as a female scientist and Grammy's role as an interfering AI was awesome!

Suspended Animation (100 words) by Anonymous
(Green Knowe Series - Lucy M. Boston. Toseland "Tolly" Oldknow. General Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply)
Tolly wonders.
A beautiful drabble that gave me a new and intriguing idea about Tolly to think about. It manages to be both lovely, sad and utterly haunting.

A Legally Good Christmas (1354 words) by Anonymous
(Manhunter (Comics). Kate Spencer, Damon Matthews. Teen And Up Audiences. No Archive Warnings Apply. Lawyers, off-screen violence)
It's the week before Christmas, and Kate Spencer has a committal to adjourn and a criminal's sidekick to defeat.
It is always fantastic to read more about Kate and this really felt like the Christmas issue of Manhunter.

A belated thank you to the lovely, lovely people who left comments for me on [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's Valentines Day post. They cheered me up when I was ill last week ♥

I'm up to date with my comics for the first time in five months and damn, some of them were good. I haven't really been paying much attention to comics news and releases, so I've got a few questions below amongst spoilers for the latest issues.

My current pull list is:

Winter SoldierCollapse )

Captain MarvelCollapse )

Untimate Spider-manCollapse )

BatmanCollapse )

Batman and RobinCollapse )

Red Hood and the OutlawsCollapse )

NightwingCollapse )

BatwomanCollapse )

Um. What else am I reading???? I'm sure there were more things on my actual pull list but apparently not.

Other comics I've enjoyed.

HawkeyeCollapse )

SagaCollapse )

I'd completely forgotten to do this! My Yuletide fic for pixieboots was
You Can't Always Get What You Want
(Nightwing (Comics), DCU - Comicverse. Teen And Up Audiences. 4440 words. Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth. Gen really but features some unrequited pining over Dick by Tim.)
This could be the most inefficient way to solve a case Tim has ever seen, but he misses hanging out with Dick, so he isn't going to complain.

Some babbling about writing itCollapse )

I hope everyone celebrating had a Happy Christmas!

I received two wonderful stories for Yuletide!

Of Dreams and Danger (4163 words) by Anonymous
(Seaward - Susan Cooper, Teen And Up Audiences, Warning: Major Character Death, Calliope/Westerly)
Five things that never happened to Calliope.
I think I've requested this one for the last four Yuletides and I was so excited to see that someone had written it. It's a beautiful story featuring five different AUs for Cally, touching on the themes of life death and grief featured in the books and it manages captures their dreamlike nature perfectly.

Eight Candles (5720 words) by Anonymous
(Batwoman (Comic), DCU - Comicverse. General Audiences. Bette Kane, Kate Kane, Garfield Logan, Jake Kane, Catherine Kane, Beth Kane)
Eight times Bette Kane lit the menorah.
A wonderful fic written about the Bette Kane that I love, the Bette who doesn't believe in daydreams and instead makes plans and carries them out. When I mentioned seasonal fic in my overal prompts, a Kane family Hanukkah was in the back of my mind, which makes it even better.

And all I have to say is Spoilery Avengers reactionCollapse )

The only disadvantage of the UK getting movies before the US is that I can't come home from the cinema and immediately read a zillion reaction posts. Has anyone else seen it? I badly want to talk about it.

***

In other news, I'm really enjoying the Smallville digital comic although it is full of disconcerting Batgirl callbacks (mostly just because it is the some writer and artist). Brian Q. Miller is awesome. Also this month's Batman and Robin (#8) blew me away. Considering that I intended to drop it after the first issue, it really surprised me and I am so full of Damian feelings. I love what they've done with the father son relationship.

1. A video of Shit Robin Fans Say. It's fairly accurate. Embedded under cut - Steph WAS a RobinCollapse )

2. I posted a bunch of prompts (mostly DCU) at the Porn Battle here. Then I saw some of your prompts and they are scarily similar.

3. OK, I've noticed that the name Wesley is frequently used (well, at least twice) when American shows want to create a very British character. I'm English and I don't think I've ever met a British person with the name Wesley, maybe as a surname, but definitely not as a given name. What's that all about, huh?

4. 8 Everyday Items, Miniaturized In Lego

5. The Women Write About Comics blog carnival on Women In Refrigerators 13 Years Later.
