Ugh! My laptop started acting up over the weekend and the old disappearing backlight problem came back after about a year of being absolutely fine. It stabilized eventually and I hooked it up to my housemate's monitor for a hour or so last night but I'm not looking forward to the will-it-work/won't-it-work stress every time I turn it on for the next few weeks.
I've had the laptop for five years and since I finally have some spare cash this would be a very good time to look for a replacement. I just need to decide what to get. I'm looking for something with reasonable graphics capacity so I can work on it but apart from that I'm really not all that fussy. There are a couple of Dells that look good and I'm not going to spend too much time looking at the gorgeous pink VAIOs.

The good thing about the lack of laptop meant that I managed to catch up with a lot of TV and did some writing. I've just calculated and it looks like I watched nine episodes of Fringe and seven of Alias (Season 1). Wow!
I'm definitely liking Alias - thanks mskatej! I went into it knowing almost nothing so it was all very surprising. So many freaking cliffhangers! Does every episode end with them? That could get old fast. I got very confused by the opening credits which appeared so far into the show that I kept thinking they were the closing credits and I'd watched twice as many episodes as I actually had.
One of my favourite things is Sydney's relationship with her friends although I'm blanking on all their names, um Francie and Will. I spend the entire time talking at the tv and telling Will to stop asking those questions because he is going to be killed. (I hope this doesn't actually happen). All the covers Sydney uses are very entertaining although the wigs look so very fake - how does no one notice?
( spoilers, I supposeCollapse ) There was surprise!Gina Torres which is never not a good thing and I'd forgotten how much I love Jennifer Garner. 13 Going on 30 is one of my very few comfort watches mostly because she is so good at physical comedy (also Mark Ruffalo and 80s nostalgia). I haven't seen her in much else apart from Juno - is there anything anyone would recommend?
