Yuletide letter 2018
Dear Yuletide Writer
Thank you for writing for me, I know I will enjoy the story that you'll write about these characters. I've included prompts because I know that can sometimes be helpful, but if you aren't inspired by them, or if you have a completely different story you want to tell - go for it! I will try reading pretty much anything once and I love new perspectives on the fandoms and characters I like.
I love reading all sorts of stories, happy, sad, funny or serious. I like character based stories and also crossovers, time travel and alternate universes. I enjoy gen, het, femslash and slash. I adore outsider points of view (even from original characters) and epistolary fic. I love stories about 'how they got together' and friends turning into lovers, but they don't have to end with happily ever after with all their problems resolved (but I don't mind if they do). I like reading about fight sex and awkward first, second or even twenty-seventh time sex. I love female characters so I would be a little sad if they were completely sidelined. I love stories with a strong sense of place. I like canon pairings and obscure canon details. I like stories about all kinds of families. I also like to read seasonal stories if it fits in with the source.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
Katherine "Kitty" Song-Covey, Lara Jean Song-Covey, Margot Song-Covey, Peter Kavinsky
This was such a perfect romcom and I loved Lara Jean’s friendship and romance with Peter as well the relationship between the sisters. I’d love to see some missing moments from the story – as Lara Jean and Peter get to know each other again, any interactions between the sisters, how Margot felt while she was away. Or maybe a what happens next after the movie, I haven’t read the books yet so you can get as creative as you like.
New Amsterdam
Eva Marquez, John Amsterdam
All the loose ends left by the cancellation of this show made me desperate for fic. Does John ever find his one true love and regain mortality, or was that just constructed to give him hope? What happens next? I loved the chemistry between John and Eva, so if you'd like to explore that as a working partnership, friendship or even a relationship, I'd be happy. You could write a casefile, a story set in the next episode, a flashback into Eva or John's past or an alternate series finale as if there were several more seasons
Think of England - K. J. Charles
Archie Curtis, Daniel da Silva
This is my favourite K.J. Charles book and I'd love to read anything about Archie and Daniel, particularly set during or after the events of the book. Maybe a story about their adjustment to working together and being in a relationship, which must've had its tough moments. How does their relationship develop? What was their first official job together like? Daniel's point of view on any of the events in the book would be fascinating. It was great seeing a glimpse of this in the ‘Song for a Viking’ short story and more along these lines would be very welcome.
Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome
Nancy Blackett, Susan Walker, John Walker
Susan and Nancy are both the oldest girl in their family but you couldn't find two people who are more different. I'd love anything you write about either of them but here are some things you could explore. Did Susan's school friends think of her as wildly adventurous or was she the sensible, grown up one everywhere? What was growing up like for Nancy and why did she become so protective of her mother? I’d also be happy to read about any romantic relationships that might develop – either John/Nancy or Susan/Nancy. Did any of the three of them spend time together that wasn't recorded in the books? What were their experiences of learning to sail like? Did they stay in touch as they grew up and how different were their later lives?
Devil's Cub - Georgette Heyer
Dominic Alastair, Mary Challoner
This is my absolute favourite Heyer novel and I would read pretty much anything about Dominic and Mary. What happens to them after the book ends? How easy is their marriage when they return to life in England? How does Mary deal with the enormous changes to her life brought by joining the Alastair family? And does how does Dominic adapt to having a wife? Something that explores their passionate relationship and the intimacy that develops between them would also be great. Or maybe even an alternate universe where something significant about the events or the setting is changed.
Happy writing!
