Listens: Zelda and chill

2022, a summary.

Soooo.... The last time I posted here was at the end of last year. XD I've really fallen out of the habbit of posting here, and even though I wanted to do better, I failed hard at that. XD I must admit that other social media have kind of taken over from LJ. I'm a lot on Discord these days (username is Sillie82 (Silvia)#6261 over there, if you want to find me) and I'm on Instagram a lot, as I post my art there. I"m also on Tumblr, where I keep my queue going with a variety of things. I also have a side artblog there.
But! I still have love for LJ so I thought it would be fun to summarise 2022 a bit. I mentioned some hopes in my last post, and I wanted to come back here and see if I managed those things. I'll put it all behind cuts, cause this will probably get long. :')

Fandom
Fandom has always been a very big and important part in my live. A lot of friend come from the fandoms I've been in, and of course Supernatural has been the biggest factor there. I mentioned before I have drifted away from the fandom, and that hasn't changed. I don't read any spn fanfic, and I don't feel compelled to make art in this fandom. Sam and Dean still have a big spot in my heart, but I still haven't watched season 15 (except for the last two eps), and I'm not sure I ever will.
Last time I posted I was completely obsessed with Aidan Turner. That obsession hasn't completely gone away, but it has simmered down a bit, only to make space for a new obsession: Our Flag Means Death.

This show has taken over my life. The gay pirate brainrot is real yo. I've rewatched it at least 5 times, and giggle about everything just has hard every time. Lucius is my favorite character, my baby boy (..he's almost 30, but still). There will be a second season next year and I can't wait.

(fan)art
I'm happy to report that I've kept up with my art, and I've created quite a bit this year. It really helps that I've made sunday 'drawing day'. I just plop my ass down behind my desk every sunday, and draw as long as I can. Here's a list of the things I've drawn. All these links lead to Instagram. If you have trouble viewing these links, here are links to my DeviantArt page and my AO3 where I post most of my art as well.

In the beginning of the year, I was still very much busy with Aidan Turner's face, so my first piece of art of 2022 was of one of his roles. Second piece was Aidan as well.

In the meantime I was also working on a drawing for my mom's birthday. She's a very big fan of the show Lucifer, and of Tom Ellis in particular, so I drew her Lucifer Morningstar as a present.

Then I saw a really great picture of Jared as Walker. I haven't watched the show and it's honestly not a show I'm interested in, but this photo looked like a challenge, so I gave it a shot.

Then I went briefly back to Aidan Turner. I really wanted to try my hand at a colored pencil portrait, and I had this picture of him I wanted to draw that I didn't think a grayscale version would do it justice.
John Mitchell (played by Aidan Turner) from Being Human

This is where Our Flag Means Death takes over. After I watched the show I was itching to draw, and I of course started with sketching and feeling out my favorite character.
Lucius Spriggs from OFMD

Then I tried my hand at a proper portrait of Lucius, with one of his many great expressions. Nathan Foad who plays Lucius has a very expressive face and I adore him. And then I drew another two portraits of him.

Two more portraits of Lucius

These portraits set off a project where I started drawing the whole crew of the Revenge. They all have such interesting faces, and all of them have something to help me along in practicing drawing portraits.
Knives are knives, meat's meat. Roach (Samba Schutte)
I'm not a mermaid! Jim Jimenez (Vico Ortiz)
...if you wanted, I could be family. Oluwande Boodhari (Samson Kayo)

Then I posted two 'side' projects. I got a commision from a friend, who wanted me to draw Stede and Blackbeard from OFMD for a friend. I took a scene from the show, and used watercolor and colored pencils.
A dollop of milk and seven sugars (Edward Teach and Stede Bonnet)

I also did a colored piece of Nathan Foad. There was this one picture he posted that I adored, so I took that, and used once again watercolor and colored pencils.

And back to the portraits of the crew we go!
They're such dicks about spoons! Frenchie (Joel Fry)
Can we light it on fire? Wee John Feeney (Kristian Nairn)
The teeth don't go back in!! The Swede (Nat Faxon)
I'm used to death, but uh... but not uh... your death. Black Pete (Matthew Maher)
I hex upon ye!! Nathaniel Buttons (Ewen Bremner)
We talk it through as a crew. Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby)
Edward Teach, born on a beach. Edward Teach aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi)
You absolute TWAT! Izzy Hands (Con O'Neill)
M' noses! Spanish Jackie (Leslie Jones)

I missed drawing my baby Lucius though, so in between I did a sketchpage of Lucius.

At the moment I'm working on Mary Bonnet, Stede's exwife. I love her. :') (honestly, there isn't one character that I don't love. This show man...)

As you guys can see, I've been pretty busy. And I'm pretty proud of what I've produced. I really think that with each portrait, I improve a little bit. :) I very much plan on keeping it up in the new year.

Reading
After not having read a book in years, I've finally managed to get to reading books again. I sit myself down every saturday. What also helps is that the books I'm reading are all books that have tv shows that I love based on them. So I'm sure I'll love the characters, and I'm already kind of familiar with the universe. It's also interesting to see what the tv shows took from the books, and what they left out. Here's what I've managed to read this year:

Faithful unto Death - Caroline Graham (Midsomer Murders)
The Killings at Badgers Drift - Caroline Graham (MM)
The Crow Trap - Ann Cleeves (Vera)
Telling Tales - Ann Cleeves (Vera)
Raven Black - Ann Cleeves (Shetland)
White Nights - Ann Cleeves (Shetland)
Death of a Hollow Man - Caroline Graham (MM)
The last Wish - Andrzej Sapkowski (the Witcher)
currently reading: Sword of Destiny - Andrzej Sapkowski (the Witcher)

I'm really enjoying these 3 writers, and I plan to read all there is in these series, so that should keep me occupied for some time to come. :')

I've also gone back to reading fanfic, but in my new fandom. I'm sad though, cause there's not that much Black Pete/ Lucius fic out there. I'm not sure if it's because they're a cannon pairing, and just not as interesting (god, they're so adorable on the show I can't.), as they have a pretty healthy relationship all things concidered. Ah well, hopefully once the new season starts it will pick up. *hopefull*
I do read the occasional Izzy/ Lucius, as there's more of it, but not all of it is in my taste. :)

Games
So last year I was very much into Animal Crossing, but after hours upon hours of playing that, I'm kinda done with the game. So this year I've been playing a lot of Pokemon, with first Shining Pearl, and then Legends: Arceus. I've also been playing some Indy games (Fall Guys, Ooblets), and right now I'm heavily into Pokemon Violet. I also dipped my toe back into Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in anticipation of Tears of the Kingdom coming out next year (fucking finally!) If any of you have a Switch and want to exchange friendcodes, let me know. :)

Work
Work is still very busy and exhausting. Lot's of sick colleagues, and not always enough people to replace them. I still love the kids though, and we have some pretty great parents at the moment, so that helps. :) I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I'll manage not to strech myself to thin.

...I think those are the important things I wanted to mention. I also want to take the opportunity to thank some people for their holiday cards. hefreak, dizzojay, casey28, raloria, sinnerforhire, maichan (I also adored the little bookmark, thank you!), isabelgou, kattrip033, kalliel, beelikej and tanisafan, thank you!

Hope all of you have a wonderful end of the year, and here's for an amazing 2023!
