The holidays are always busy for me, but that's not a bad thing. I've picked up some freelance work, actually done some writing, visited lots with people I love and only just recently recovered enough from 6 years of exhaustion to start taking an interest in my surroundings. This has led to a desire to get rid of everything I own. I'm very allergic to dust.
<\/a>

Gotham<\/u><\/b>
Stephanie:<\/b> Winter is the busiest time for Steph's jobs -- crime goes up, parties happen, life ensues. Beyond her jobs, though, her focus has really narrowed down to Charlotte (who will be seven next month, which Steph is having a hard time grasping) and Becker who she is really very head over heels for. It took months for them to even go out on a date and then another two months before sex happened. And, as is the case with Stephanie, she basically was three weeks past it happening for her to realize that she's in love. Steph's always the last to know that kind of thing.
Upcoming in 2012:<\/i> Nothing in particular. Something adventurous with Becker, perhaps. Entropy will be exciting.

Caroline:<\/b> Officially adopted by both Will and Magnus and given a brand new sister in the bargain, Caroline's on the top of the world. Ashley doesn't like her but Caroline's determined to make that a \"for now\" situation. And Caroline can be very determined.
Upcoming:<\/i> Elena, Stefan, entropy and the joys of being a teenage vampire.

Tim:<\/b> Tim's in stasis for the moment. He really needs to get back to being the Boy Wonder in a way that he's neglected for science instead. Nothing much is going on with him and he needs plot in the worst way.
Upcoming in 2012:<\/i> Upheaval. It's just not being a Bat if your life isn't constantly being ruined. Also, pending Wren's choices about Molly, maybe some changes in his love life? Who knows.

Bobby:<\/b> Bobby would like you to know that he's the luckiest guy on the planet and he's got the most beautiful wife and son in the world. Yes, wife. He's decided that if he just starts calling her that, eventually Dani will give in to having some kind of ceremony. He would love something traditional and white dress and flowers and tuxes but he does actually<\/i> know who he's marrying so he's not holding his breath. And frankly, he's perfectly happy to wait another three years for her to find an idea that she is comfortable with.
Upcoming in 2012:<\/i> Getting a damn job, being a bro, eventually getting around to using some of those Omega level mutant abilities. He's probably the strongest mutant in<\/i> Gotham but heck if he bothers to show it.

Parker:<\/b> We're slowly working through a GM wherein Parker gets to be the normal one for once. Also, I need to grab MeL for mistletoe times. Parker doesn't actually want to be normal, I think, just wants to understand normal people. So she's working on that and it's adorable.
Upcoming in 2012:<\/i> Stealing stuff. Always. Possibly going to UC status or even a drop, sadly. She's hard to play because she's so very monofocus.

Janet:<\/b> Her best friend has a big secret and she's thrilled about it.

The Island<\/u><\/b>
Emily:<\/b> Brand new to the island, Emily took it with her characteristic adaptability. It helped that coming to the island looked a lot like going back to her own time. She's still in that very early meeting people and exploring phase. And she definitely does a lot of exploring. She knows London fairly well but she's having fun finding things that don't match her memories. She took Joan<\/i> in as a guest in her home, largely, I think because she was lonely in a house of shades. She rather likes the tough but elegant way Joan has about her. She's also fascinated by Sonya<\/i> and the whole 'married but not taking his name' thing.
NDPD:<\/i> A formal tea set for four, plus a supply of high quality teas.
Item:<\/i> No ideas at the moment but possibly her armor from hunting 'Spring-heeled Jack', the plant Matt gave her, or an EMD.

In the future:<\/b> I'm really excited about apping Lilo<\/b> in February. I love the idea of having this fierce little kid to run around and talk to everyone but really really need just a few people to make her her family. Come on, Kate. The world is ending, you know you want a little girl. Not to mention that there are other Hawaii-based people (Hi, Steve!) who will go surfing with her and actually get the concept of aloha and ohana.

Stronghold<\/u><\/b>
Lorna:<\/b> As of the end of Gallow's (well, the middle of Gallow's really thanks to some heroics), Lorna's powers will be back. Her hair -- being conveniently stripped of dyes for the moment -- will immediately show a green tinge that will only get darker and more green as time passes and she uses her abilities. Now is the time to express your displeasure.
Logs wanted: Nathan (again), Alex, Warren, Evie, anyone else who will have an opinion about what should happen to her now.

Bobby:<\/b> Still settling into the whole Scotland thing, he needs to meet, get reacquainted with EVERYONE. He's keeping an eye on Dani as he does, which will eventually result in a bar brawl as it does.

I'm not looking to hit NaNo pace. 2000 words a day is doable but needlessly difficult when you're stuck. I don't really like word counts at all.

Instead I want to do something more like a don't break the chain kind of thing. Writing every day, for at least an hour (at LEAST). Even if I end up killing those words later because they suck.

I have a huge and wonderfully close family but more than that, I truly believe that we live in an era when it really is about the family we make for ourselves. The people that we choose, the ones who come through, the ones we call in the middle of the night.

This year has been hard. It's been the next thing to impossible. Christmas shopping is a constant reminder that there's one less gift to buy. I see so many things that would be perfect for Victoria and it's always just a few seconds before I remember why I don't have anything for her yet.

I don't have any nutshell revelations to follow that up. My feelings are still messy and unresolved. There's no movie-style inspiring narrative that results or even a Hallmark 'go hug your family'.

I'm grateful for the family I have - the one I was born to and the one I've been fortunate enough to build. That's got to be enough.

Kripke: Yes, still involved. Official loving gentle pain in Sera and Bob's asses. Fuzzy hemorrhoids. It felt like the right time. There was a five year plan, there was a sense of how it was going to end. When it looked like it was going to continue in mid season five, I want it to continue forever (Jensen looks terrified.) But I wanted a end to the storyline. Now we're in the sequel. That felt like the real right time to step down. He didn't want the creativity of the show to end (Jared \"wow, 104.\") [More talking.]
Brian: They want to talk too, Eric.
Eric: What would you like to say Jared? What's the moment?
Jared: Nothing. You lost me at consigliere.

Monsters this season?
Sera: More this season than there have been lately. The last couple of seasons were very epic and arc-centric but now they want to shot some monsters in the face. So they're doing that. And now their monsters will be looped into the mythology as well as being of the week.

Jensen: (on directing) A lot different than he was used to. As an actor, he was only called to make decisions on one character and now he had to do it for all. It was refreshing, new and exciting and he would never do it again. The writers gave him a light Dean episode. All I had to do was try to get Jim Beaver to hit the marks I wanted him to hit (Jim rolls his eyes) and he never did.

How did Sam get out of hell?
Jared: No idea. Practice. I kept saying it would be cool for Sam and Dean to die, but then I realized they had.

What's Castiel's role now?
Misha: Yeah, Cas should have a role. He hasn't had one up until now. Writers? Food for thought. People like him! I think he's on clean up detail at this point. What little I know is that Heaven is like post-Soviet Russia, just to make this interesting, and this upsets Castiel and he's trying to form a coalition to put it back together. What does that make him, Yeltsin? I want to pitch him having a Russian accent (does a bit of Russian accent.)

What's first, Bobby gets a girlfriend or he gets his soul back from Crowley?
Jim: Hell will freeze over before Bobby gets a gf. Yep, B and Crowley will have their confrontation. No more kissing scenes. He can assure us of that. (\"Oh you can.\" \"Yes, because you need me for it.\")

Insanely creepy to look forward to?
Ben: Insane. There will be Faerie in it. We're walking a very careful tightrope. Little people will be involved. We have to be on pins and needles until we get the defamation suit out of the way. I see a moment of the boys fighting a tiny pinprick of light who is Tinkerbell. You can clap your hands and believing won't help.

Bigger roles for women?
Sera: We have a couple who have survived so far this season. I don't think we have a character who is Lisa Braden is returning. Relative of Sam and Dean's returning. You're kind of dead meat on SPN.
Ben: We're actually telling you that death doesn't exist. It's a public service announcement

Jensen, what's your best advice for directing Jensen Ackles?
Jen: I didn't have to convince myself to do anything. I don't consider myself a director. Jared was not on set. (Jared: *fistpump*)

Jim not going to direct. It requires work. I wanted to give Jensen a sense of what it's like to be a director so I was going to stay in my trailer for 30 minutes. Instead he just gave him a hard time on set (\"I know how to pick up a phone!\") The riding boots and megaphone were over the top. I have never felt more safe and taken care of blah blah sentimental.

Will JDM come back?
Sera: JDM -- have you seen his schedule? We love him but he's very busy.
Jen: Come back to us, Jeff. Come back!
Jim: Yeah, bc this show needs a father figure. No one else fills that role.
Sera: Mitch coming in. Not replacing Bobby. Nothing ever will.

Was Lucifer a challenge?
Jared: Yeah, absolutely. I talked to Jensen bc he'd done it (played against himself) and it was odd and you're used to playing off someone else. I just ended up using a piece of tape. He still hasn't seen it. (K: I appreciate your support and commitment to the show)

Are you guys really great friends or is that just acting?
Jared: For me it's acting.
Jen: He's not that good an actor.
Jared: It happened pretty quick. The acting it a great part of it. So it kinda just fell into place. I hope it's decent after 5 1\/2 years.

Did you change anything in your five year plan on S6 renewal?
K: Yes, I did tweak things. There wouldn't be as many living characters as there are if it was a show end. The Lucifer\/Michael was exactly their plan 70-80 percent is as planned.

Ruby said Sam didn't need the blood.
K: It wasn't that Sam didn't need the blood, it is a battery for him, but it was more about the decisions he made. She meant the way she was pushing him toward darkness and that he'd have gone there if she was there or not because he was self righteous and angry anyway.

Does the audience make up surprise you?
K gestures to the boys.
Jen: Shocking.
Sera: I've always loved horror movies. So yes, we have a lot of attractive men (Jim and Misha preen) but some of the hardest core horror fans have always been women.

Are we getting more Ghost, Ghostfacers? (she sang it)
Sera: I feel like we just did. If the story is pitched in the right way and time, yes. They're huge on the Web.

Which was your favorite episode?
Jen: We've done 107 and you want us to pick one?
Jared: Which was your favorite? We agree. I love the premiere and finale of each season because it's starting something and wrapping something up and we get cliffhangers and I get to be in the position of a fan of.
Misha: I don't know the episode name. The one where you guys were chasing this monster demony thing and it was like aw, so good. The Impala was in it!
Jim: I hate the demon episodes. All that weird supernatural stuff. it takes away from the core of the show.
Jared: Yeah, we only like Benders.
Jen: I like the comedy ones - Hollywood Bab, Yellow F, Changing channels, Monster movie.

How was it for you when you see the final product (except Jared, I guess)
K: I put a lot of love into Swan Song. It was a chance for me to wrap up every issue I thought the show was about. It's not about heaven or hell...it's about family. I was so proud of it. It's what I wanted it to be and then I saw the reactions and I went online and What a piece of shit, I'm wiping my ass with that episode right now and I had this moment of 'I'm so misunderstood' and then I started laughing. The show has never been about the apocalypse. it's about the brothers and the emotional bond and anyway that's my apology.
Sera: I liked it.
Kripke: Thanks, Sera. My mom was, like, I liked it! Jared LOVED it.
Jared: I will be effusive in my praise when I watch it.

For Jen - How is your character going to progress through the next season?
Jen: Picked up a year later. (from the audience -- he tucks in his shirt!) Really, that's what you got from it? (Kripke: We're obviously trying too hard as writers.) He's domesticated, living a somewhat normal life and it'll be about how he gets pulled back into it and how he deals with that. And. My shirt's tucked in. (Audience - take it off!)

John: Sinisterly. TNT wanted us to open up crime world this year. The Italian is the way in. Her story wraps in winter season.

Themes in s3: they are a family now bit how do they function? This season deals a lot more with their personal families.

John: we fell in love with the bar.

J: yes, more backstory in the new season. We meet parker's mentor and who might be her father (chamberlain).

D: Nate's accepted that he's a thief but he doesn't know how to be a thief. He's thief lite. So the other team has to teach him to be a thief.

J: You're going to really get the sense that Sophie is co-running the team this year. Daddy screwed up. Daddy went away. Daddy came back and now Mommy's running things. Parker and Hardison are inching forward.

They'll never run out of bad guys. There's no shortage of assholes in suits.

Prison con was only two details changed from a real life situation.

Mentalist, social hacking, neural hacking.

No one says, I didn't care for it but it was meticulously constructed.

They start about 8:30 in the morning. They try to write banker's hours.

Mr. Scotchy is a crucial part of the writing staff.

Deconstructing Top Hat<\/u>

Starts with a blank board with just the act structure. Each act has an objective and a hanging chad that drives you forward. usually a con and a heist. Act 2 is when they find out it won't work. Act 3 is dealing with it. Act 4 is usually real time, one long action sequence. Act 5 is the reveal and resolution. commercial breaks at the end of each act. There should be something at the end of each act to keep you through the commercial breaks.

Where do the ideas come from? Everywhere. Top Hat was Tim's idea. He wanted to do an episode where he was a magician.

The important thing about breaking into television is just keep hitting. The freelancer who pitched what became Top Hat had been trying for 6 or 7 pitches.

The villain came from a company that really did this.

Albert Kim is from a journalism background. He does a lot of research first. Chris was a lawyer. He defended the typical leverage villain. John was a stand up comic.

What hats are the team going to wear in this episode? Where are we going to set this story? How will it all tie together?

Orange cards are the rough structure. Rough beats.

Sandwich guy is the every viewer. He's in the kitchen, making a sandwich. If he comes back to see what happens after the act break, it works.

Make lives as difficult as possible for your heroes. Then you have to figure out how to get them out of it.

This was a 'trojan horse' episode, where they go in under cover. Use the cover to help them achieve their objectives.

John defines bottle show. I'm skipping it.

After white cards, someone goes and write them up into outlines. Albert thinks that this is the hardest part. John agrees.

Apollo explained how they do the box trick. They didn't use it. It was too much work.

Especially with Hardison, there's a lot of sci fi references. Who is the Who fan and when does that drop into the script?
They all are but John is the most obvious. Amy Berg actually started it in Mile High. Hardison in his head knows which movie they're doing each week, so you can tell by the aliases what he thinks.

How do you get started writing?
Take a look at John's blog. He has some great writing advice on Kung Fu Monkey. Write everyday, read scripts (good ones).
Get any job you can, it doesn't have to be the 'right' jobs. Translating manga, doing Trek novelizations. Anything. Don't suck.
DVD sets are film school in a box. Listen to the commentaries. Pay attention to the act structure.

Beginning writers think that you have to include everyone's favorite idea. You don't. Throw out what doesn't work.

When you watch the episode, do you watch the episode or the people you're watching the episode with?
You see the stuff you miss the places you cheated.
Chris: It depends who you're watching it with.

Once you finish a script how much control do you have?
They prep and shoot simultaneously so they end up having more. it's not like film where you give over your script and the production team does what they will again. Sometimes they have to rewrite for the props or the location.
John: The script is the blueprint. \"As the writer, you're the only one who has seen the episode yet.\"

If you weren't doing leverage, what would you do?
Albert: I'd probably go back to Leverage
Chris: I want to keep doing this until they drag me kicking and screaming out of the room with my PB&J in the room
John: Digital distribution of comics.

What do you do when you have a sponsor like a Hyundai Genesis?
There's a whole language built around that. Actives and passives. It's an entire department of the company. They don't take bad deals.

How many plans do you go into the script with?
Multiple on every level. they develop multiple scripts at once, alternate locations, etc.

John: I write to the sound of weeping children. Warren Ellis gave me an MP3 of weeping children. No, with music. I like writing in public places, starbucks.
Chris writes in his garage, on trains (formerly).
Albert likes to write in the Borders. They have a reference section and coffee.

How are you liking the convention?
Gina's a bit overwhelmed. This is her first convention. Beth loves it.

The scariest thing is that the fans know more than we (Gina) do. We shed the script after we're done because we have to learn the next one.


Gina: I've been in this business 20 years. There are two moments that stand out in terms of reading scripts. It was first reading the script for Coupling... which she loved so much she carried it with her over Christmas. and that's how she felt about reading the script for Leverage. Auditioning from afar is a big deal and takes a lot of effort but she really loved the script and wanted to do it.

Beth: At first, Nate was female and they wanted me for it. *adorable grin* They do a bunch of rounds before I got there. I dod a couple rounds with them and then we did the testing for network. The description for Parker was so random and contradicotry and I just went in and played and had fun. John said what'ever you're doing right now, just trust it. Do that.

I waited for John and he came out and I grabbed his shirt and I was like \"I can really do this, I promise, let me just try again\" and he was like \"shh, shh, shh, if I wanted something different I'd have told you.\"

Gina: I don't think I'll have as good an entrance as I did in the pilot. It's difficult to act badly and I was having problems with my visa and my first scene was that entrance of acting badly and it was intimidating and there were American actors and an academy award winner and I was like, can I just do it well first?

I think the crisis Sophie had is going to really weave well into the show and she's really going to be confident this year. The storyline they created [to cover the pregnancy] is going to have amazing payoffs this season.

When you play a character like this especially over a period of time, you expect things. So when they gave sophie a boyfriend I was like Whaaaaat?

Beth: [giggles, micmicking] \"Whaaaaaaat?\" [quietly] That's amazing.

Gina: I don't think she was very serious about him. (the boyfriend)

How much input do you get in crafting your characters?
Beth: Yeah, I basically write my own scenes. [straightfaced] No, it's fun because they're so nonsequitor and random. the stuff with Hardison and Aldis,(who is lurking off to the side with the TNT behind the scenes film crew) I know John said I was his favorite, by the way.

Aldis: Whatever. [Blusters a bit]
Beth: I'll show you in the van later.
Aldis: That's my exit...

Beth: I like the throughline of letting Parker do more roleplaying and it was challening for me because I felt like it was a bit soon for her to make that jump and I had to find a way to do that without Sophie guiding her.

Team Hardison or Team McSweeten?
Beth: You mean McSweety. McCutie. No, team Hardison, of course.

Gina: The dog tags was a collaboration with Nadine, the costume designer. They worked with a local designer Cari<\/a> and created a signature piece that Sophie wears when she's being Sophie.

Question about \"Insatiable\" - it never saw the light of day unfortunately. Beth doesn't even have a copy of it she doesn't think.

Are you afraid of heights?
Beth: Not anymore... No, I went skydiving when I was 19 and everyone should do that it's the most freeing experience of my life and you feel like you can do anything after that.

How is Sophie moving into the Den Mother role?
Gina: I think she became more maternal last year and it may hace just been the hormones but this year I think everyone's gorrown up. I think Parker's definitely grown up and gottehm more maturity (Beth: sexuality) And Aldis had now grown up and become a man.He was twenty when we started the show.

What repercussions will come from the S2 finale?
Gina: I think there will be a lot of play. And Sophie's not just going to fall into Nate's arms, he's going to have to work and she's going to make him work for that.
Beth: No one on the team likes being messed with and Nate pulled one over on us. At the end of the day, Parker's used to being on her own and you can only push her so far before fuck you. Right now they're all very eye on the prize but it might come up. Right now it's like \"noted\". But if they keep pushing, she's not going to like that.

Do you want to do more fighting?
Beth: Yeah, I love that.
Gina: I have a fight rehearsal tomorrow. I'm scared but I told Christian (and the fight coordinator but, you know, Christian) and he's going to help her work on the scene. Christian is really generous and he'll always come in and help you out and work with you on it.

Do you and Aldis crack up?
Beth: Yeah, I'm \/always\/ telling Aldis how to be funny >.>
Gina: Aldis is really good at keeping it together. Beth can't keep it together and if Christian sees Beth go, then we're lost for about an hour. But it's really Nate that always starts the mischief. And Aldis and I are like 'come on, guys'
Beth: And then Tim will poke you...NOT LIKE THAT!

What's your moment that you came up with?
Beth: the sniffing. It was random and awesome and it made sense to me and Parker's like a baby or an animal. They use their senses. Maggie's the only other female than Sophie that Parker interacts with so she was learning her.
Gina: I did this tiny tiny thing...it was the pony tail. So I thought it might be fun for the audience to see Sophie getting into character and getting ready. So I did the scene walking and talking and putting the hair piece in.

Do you have anything that you're cursed ito todo?
Beth: They tell us do it once straight then they let us play and it's really great.
Gina: There was this funny thing in S1 and John said...or we imagined he said and he told us that he enjoyed our adlibs. So we went way over on that trying to get the button. Actors love to compete for the button
Beth: Tim stole my button on the poking thing [poking Eliot during Top Hat] and then it happened again the other night with the coffee thing!

Favorite thing on the show?
Beth: Prefers jumping off buildings to air ducts
Gina: The snow bunny was fun too and it was 130 degrees in the valley that day.

Do you see yourselve or your characters as role models?
Gina: I'll answer if for Beth... (Beth: I can answer for my own self thankyouverymuch) I don't want to encourage [crime] but they both are strong and they don't take shit and they enjoy their power as women.
Beth: The thing I love about Parker is that she's not perfect and she's not the whole normal thing. She's not the typical girl. She does have vulnerabilities but it was great to have a character that was a little messed up and real and a goof ball and I don't have to be perfect little package. I come from a big family. There is this big pressure to be this type of girl [perfect girl next door type] and I don't agree with that and I think if Parker can inspire people to be themselves then I love that. [She's very passionate about this. It's really amazing to see.]
Gina: I think it's great because they're strong women with three guys who treat them with respect.

Gina thinks that the impact of Beth lbeing like her sister impacts Sophie and Parker.

John keeps the character voices consistent. The episode writers take care of the plot.

Where yoou prepared for longer American seasons\/runs of shows?
Gina: Yeah, ask my husband about that... they live half a year in England and half in the US.

What's been your favorite part of the weekend?
Beth: It's been humbling. Signing yesterday was amazing because we got to see you and meet you and it made me feel happy that you guys care.
Gina: I met a lady yesterday whose son is in the military and he's the one who suggested that she come here. It really touched me.

What do you really enjoy or hate about filming in Portland?
Gina: I love it here. We drive ourselves to work and it was a pain in LA and it's just so small and easy to get around

Anywhere outside Eliot's head to get away from the anger (\"Hey, Hardison...\"). Christian says his vacation is going to work. then he sings a snip of Kokomo.

What role do you like in the team? Hitter, hacker, etc

Beth: The more the merrier. Parker's not all that comfortable with it.
Aldis: Anything that kept me out of that van last year. He's waiting to learn to fight\/get a fight scene

Are you going to release a photography book? Beth: Yes, I do want to put out a book. It's in the works.

What makes working on Leverage different?
Christian: We work with our best friends. By S3 usually people hate each other but we're not, we're all still best friends.
Tim: We just genuinely like each other. I did this interview recently and was asked about the cast and the relationship and was misquoted as we \/generally\/like each other.
Aldis: I feel at home on set. We couldn't wait for our chairs with our names.
