It suggests a possible step towards a new dialect in (re)design practices by examining three elements: common depictions of the role and cultural position of designers as translators and interpreters; the growing interest that has arisen in the last decade among influential figures in the field of design and democracy in light of the recent challenges democracy has faced globally; and the powerful grip of evolving practices, such as "Design Fictions" and "Speculative Design" and the mainstream acceptance of Design Thinking methodologies.

The aim is to develop a series of cross-cultural educational collaborations to expose our students to the challenges of working across cultures in unfamiliar landscapes on some of the big social design challenges of the day. So far we have worked on the future of food in Japan, rural-urban migration in Northern China, social city innovation in Seoul, sports innovation in Australia and a series of projects in Thailand, Ghana and India that looked at different ways to improve economic prospects and maintain cultural practices for craftsmen, artisans and makers.
GoGlobal Israel-Palestine was a collaboration with Shenkar College in Tel Aviv working with partners across Israel and Palestine focussing on improving the untapped potential for crafts to improve the economic situation for Israeli Arabs and Palestinians living behind the dividing wall. The results of our GoGlobal 2015 - Peace of Design are captured in this documentary.

Working in five transdisciplinary groups, they generated alternative near-future scripts and design proposals to address challenges relevant to the Middle East, such as borders, religious diversity, migration, water and food sources. To enable large-scale collaborative teamwork, the project's design curators, two educators from the Middle East, applied an experimental methodological approach they coined " Problem Probing, " a composite toolbox carefully incorporating diverse design practices and mentalities. The paper will present the composition of the first workshop, elaborate on the project's methodological and theoretical framework, and discuss its contribution to our future thinking about the socio-political role that design can claim as an instigator of public discussion outside the design realm.
