1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
6. Tag five people. If you're inclined to do this, go for it!

Okay, with all giggly irony, the closest book to me (and I had to look around a bit, as I've been cleaning) is 'The Complete Artist's Way' by Julia Cameron

19. People think money _______________________________________
(This is where I giggle and snort in amusement. I think this is a question that we, the reader, are supposed to answer. Mine is: 'The bane of our existence.')

20. Being broke tells me _____________________________________
(that being broke sucks?)

TASKS
1. Natural Abundance: Find five pretty or interesting rocks. I enjoy this exercise particularly because rocks can be carried in pockets, fingered in business meetings (giggle, snort). They can be small, constant reminders or our creative consciousness.
2. Natural Abundance: Pick five flowers or leaves. You may want to press these between wax paper and save them in a book. If you did this in kindergarten, that's fine. Some of the best creative play is done there. Let yourself do it again.
3. Clearing: Throw out or give away five ratty pieces of clothing.

Okay, flist, impress me!

Fandom Meme

Snagged from [info]geekgrllurking who gave me the fandoms below to play with.

Comment on this and I'll give you three of your fandoms, then copy and paste the questions in to your journal and fill it out!! :)

CSI: New York
01. The first character I fell in love with: Stella, obviously, though Mac is a VERY close second.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Danny, followed by Don
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Frighteningly, there isn't anyone in this show I actively dislike!
04. The character I love that everyone else hates: I guess the closest would be Lindsey, because I know there's many who don't like her.
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Donnie CAN be a dick sometimes…
06. The character I would shag anytime: Hello? The Greek hottie?
07. The character I want to be like: Mac. Easy.
08. The character I'd slap: Stella. Because, seriously, her taste in men?
09. A pairing that I love: Danny and Lindsey. They're so cute and normal!
10. A pairing that I hate: None actually. I even liked Don and Angel, when they weren't being a little cloying.
11. Favorite character: Same as 1!
12. My five favorite characters: Mac, Stella, Sid, Adam, Peyton.
13. My five least favorite characters: I feel bad writing this, because I still like 'em, just not as much! Hawkes, Don, err… I think I'm out of ideas. I still like the guys; I just think they're more cliché then some of the others. Even Lindsey grew out of her 'over-enthusiastic new kid' routine in time.
14. Which character I am most like: If I weren't a lazy slob? Danny. That both amuses and shames me. In a funny way…
15. My deep, dark fandom secret: I desperately want to slash the magnificent Stella? Is that a secret?

NCIS
01. The first character I fell in love with: Abby. Years before I actually WATCHED the show.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: McGee. There's something consistently charming about that boy. And is there anyone who hasn't enjoyed watching him grow up? As much as Tony will LET him grow up…
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Tony. Really, it's been how many damn seasons now and he's EXACTLY the same guy we met all those years ago? Boooooring…
04. The character I love that everyone else hates: Jenny Shepherd. What can I say, she grew on me!
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: To an extent, Ziva. When she went all braindead and comic-book girlie, 'but I wuvz him' and I lost all respect for the character. I haven't watched since.
06. The character I would shag anytime: Abby! Dear lord, would she be FUN!!!
07. The character I want to be like: Abby wins again. Or Ducky, he's such a character.
08. The character I'd slap: Gibbs, for not reining in the constant distraction that is Tony. What kind of leadership does that show? Obviously, the younger man has no self-control and distracts his team to the point of endangering them at times. Really, that's the reason Tony pisses me off so bad. He endangers the people he supposedly cares about and no one no one will see it.
09. A pairing that I love: Abby and Timmy were pretty cute, but make better friends. My actual answer, believe it or not, is Tony and Jeanne. Why you ask? Because it was the only period of time we actually saw growth in Tony, when he couldn't hide behind the fratboy persona. Then he dismissed her and became the same shallow idiot he's always been and all that growth evaporated like dry ice. Every damn time he grows that happens and it's old.
10. A pairing that I hate: Gibbs and Jenny. They rammed that one down our throats until we choked. Heavy handed much, guys?
11. Favorite character: Abby and Ducky.
12. My five favorite characters: Abby, Ducky, Gibbs, Ziva and McGee.
13. My five least favorite characters: Tony. I could repeat his name four more times, but that would be immature. However, I think his actor is magnificent, ironically.
14. Which character I am most like: McGee and Abby's love child. Scary thought…
15. My deep, dark fandom secret: I love badass, self-sufficient Ziva and I'm sorry that she has to tolerate her Neanderthal of a partner.

Bionic Woman
01. The first character I fell in love with: Ruth. Hands down.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Nathan. And Jonas, oddly.
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Sarah Corvus. She got annoying towards the end and slash with Jamie didn't work for me AT ALL; too dark and manipulative and hurtful. Wish there had been more actually storytelling with her after the first few eps instead of her being reduced to a plot tool and then finally vanishing with no explanation.
04. The character I love that everyone else hates: Nathan?
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer: Corvus.
06. The character I would shag anytime: Ruth. Except that she kinda scares me.
07. The character I want to be like: Jonas. 'Cause he's a bastard, but still remains kinda amusing and warm.
08. The character I'd slap: That CIA bitch… And Jamie, for the same reason I'd want to slap Stella.
09. A pairing that I love: It's only ever been Ruth and Jamie for me. Yup.
10. A pairing that I hate: Do I REALLY need to bring up Tom? Seriously? WTF was that? They had about as much chemistry as dry cardboard and about as much fun to watch.
11. Favorite character: Ruth!
12. My five favorite characters: Ruth, Jamie, Nathan, Jonas, Jae.
13. My five least favorite characters: Tom.
14. Which character I am most like: Nathan. Without the brainy.
15. My deep, dark fandom secret: VoyeurNate! Poor guy never does it on purpose in femmeslash, and he's always afraid they'll murder him. It's not his fault he gets Jamie's eye feed! Oh, and Ruth letting Jamie be the 'top'. That's HOT. Not that bossyRuth isn't hot as hell…

That was fun! I forget sometimes how much I love these memes.

Meme: crack character questions

As gacked from the Mighty Caitrin!

Because this meme has led to ficlets every time I've done it. Gacked from [personal profile] scrollgirl, among others. To make things interesting, I will say that the characters I've picked are ten women from ten different fandoms.

1. I write down a list of 10 characters.

2. You choose however many of those you like and ask me a question about them. Examples: "What happens when 5 and 9 are forced to take care of a baby?" or "1, 4, and 8 walk into a bar. What happens next?" or "What does 3 do when s/he finds out that 10 is pregnant with 7's child?" You get the idea. :D

3. I tell you about these scenarios!

Feel free to ask more than one question if you'd like, and if you've done this and I missed it, point me at your post if you want more questions.

Meme!

Geek, you are evil. But you knew that.

1) If you were invisible where would you go?
Besides a woman's locker room? Somewhere where I could see something I would never have a chance to see in real life. Like a laboratory or a restricted space.

2) What super power would you most like to have and why?
Hmmm. Something that would be helpful in real life, in addition to being really frickin' cool. Like being able to talk to inanimate objects. Or being able to nudge people's behavior.

3) What was your favourite toy as a child and now?
Two things popped into my head. Since I have such scattershot memories of childhood, I probably remember them more for playing with my siblings, but they might have been hand-me-downs anyway. There was a toy of colorful donut shapes in different sizes and a pillar you stacked them on. But I think the real winner is this: http://order.tupperware.com/pls/htprod_www/tup_show_item.show_item_detail?fv_item_category_code=21000&fv_item_number=P10054276000. Though I think mine had different shapes! As a kid with undiagnosed learning disabilities, these sorts of fun, colorful things were perfect for me.
As an adult, I dunno that I have a favorite toy. At least not one that I can talk about in polite company... Heh.

4) If you were stranded on a desert island who would you prefer to be with you - Stella Bonasera or Sofia Curtis?
AUGH! You really are evil. Stella would probably be the better companion, firecracker that she is, but Sofia might have the better survival skills. Spotty chimed in with. 'which one would you be more likely to get into her pants?' After enough time alone, that would be either of them! And I'd be skinny and studly anyway, right? Though if it were a DESERT island, not a DESERTED island, we'd both be dead anyway...

5) If you could be an ice cream flavour what would it be?
Cookies and cream. 'Cause then I'm TWO kinds of dessert! Woot!

Race The Meme

2. Age: 38. And I'm the youngest in the house! Heh.
3. Single or Taken: Still taken.
4. Favorite Movie: Gah, I have NO idea. How about 'Cats Don't Dance'. Excellent flick and funny as hell.
5. Favorite Song or Album: Idina Menzel's 'Strongest Suit'
6. Favorite Band/Artist: Errrr. Enya.
7. Dirty or Clean: Bod was scrubbed this morning. The brain? You don't really have to ask do you?

9. Do we know each other outside of LJ? No, unfortunately. The timing never worked out, eh Race?
10. What's your philosophy on life? Live and let live. Feed the birds. To know me is to love me; to understand me is a miracle
11. Is the bottle half-full or half-empty? Depends on how much I've had to drink.
12. Would you keep a secret from me if you thought it was in my best interest? With my lousy memory, that answer can change circumstantially.

14. What is your favorite guilty pleasure? Naps. Oh joyful, blessed naps.
15. Tell me one odd/interesting fact about you: I'm really tall. Over 6 foot. And kids like me. Guess they know I'm safe.
16. You can have three wishes (for yourself, so forget all the 'world peace etc' malarky) - what are they? To see the Northern Lights, to win the lottery and travel and donate tons of cash to causes I really believe in.
17. Can we get together and make a cake? I can make a KILLER cake. I took lessons. I know how to play with fondant and gum paste and more exotic things.
18. Which country is your spiritual home? Hell, I'm here.
19. What is your big weakness? My weight.
20. Do you think I'm a good person? Absolutely. You care about creatures of two feet and four.
21. What was your best/favorite subject at school? Anything dealing with language or communication.
22. Describe your accent. Southern California. It scares me that some Washingtonians can actually pick it out. Or used to anyway.
23. If you could change anything about me, would you? Make your life easier, because suffering is never cool.
24. What do you wear to sleep? Nylon short and a t-shirt.
25. Trousers or skirts? Former. In girlie clothes I look like a very uncomfortable man in drag.
26. Cigarettes or alcohol? Quit the first, indulge the second randomly and in small quantities. Despite my stature I'm a cheap drunk.
27. If I only had one day to live, what would we do together? (If you have no idea, just say something crazy, it'll entertain me!) Fly over Mt St Helens to see if she wants to take us out.
28. Will you repost this so I can fill it out for you? Hell yes!

What Big Cat Are You?

*chuckles*
I have a couple muses that are tickled by this result and NO I did not deliberately skew the results. So there!

You Are a Cougar
You have more strength than most people, and with it, the ability to inflict a lot of harm.
Your power gives you confidence, and you find leading others to be easy.

You believe that you need to the best, and you are very driven to excel.
Most people immediately admire you, but some people feel very envious of your abilities.

Character questions meme

Rules: Comment to this post and I'll give you a character. Answer the following questions using that character.

Laylat gave me Sara Sidle. At first, I had a spaz fit over IM to her, because the canon character became so cringingly awful. So, I'm writing about the version of her that I have written. This is primarily the LWM version, because I CAN.

1. Do you like this character? Completely and utterly. The effort of making her a truly complete character was a long, tough and completely rewarding task. There were and are so many facets outside of the idiotic cliche TPTB fell back on that she became irresistible.
2. What name/s do you call this character? Outside of her lovely given name, she chose the play name of Basker with a true sense of perverse humor. And 'Daddy' affectionately calls her Sunshine.
3. What image/color do you associate with character? Those deep, soulful brown eyes. Really, how can one resist? Oh, and the crooked smile. SO cute.
4. What image-song do you associate with character? Superman, from Five For Fighting. Why this one? It is solely from a brilliant fanvid about Sara that someone made ages ago. The vid has never left me and is the sole reason I have the song on ITunes!
5. What blood-type do you think this character is? Never needed to know...
6. Of all of the titles that this character appears in, what character do you like to put this character with? SASSY. Duh. Oh, and her pack of four in LWM.
7. What would you want to say to this character? I would want to give her a hug and a heartfelt thank you for the chances she took in LWM. The changes were a fascinating progression of events and relationships I've never tired of.
8. What do you want to do with this character? Aside from the usual dirty comments, there are many loose threads regarding this lovely woman that need tying off. Particularly the first time she fully submits to the Cougar's dominance...

Meme thingy

Okay, I have given in to the '5 Things' meme. Per The Great and Powerful geekgrrllurking, here we go!

1. Dace
Dang... this might take awhile... There was this great show ages back on the evil Lifetime channel, called The Division. It was about a group of women police in San Francisco and starred Nancy McKeon (yum!). Me and AJ came into the series early in second season (it's best work IMO) and were hooked. Loved Bonnie Bedilia as Cap'n Cait, and the ever-marvelous Lisa Vidal (who actually got us watching as she was playing Sandy on ER) and even the sweet young thing playing young Raina.
But, where are you going with this you damn chatterbox, you ask? Sure there was all those lovely woman certainly... but then there was Tracy Needham. Hot damn was she sexy as CD DeLorenzo! I get misty-eyed just thinking about it... Anyway, there was something about the tough and tender CD that was intoxicating and, in the pioneering spirit of all subtext-hunting femslashers everywhere, we found something to write. CD/Jinny was a long standing fetish for both me and AJ, lasting a good, long time and producing some beautiful stories. (See http://f-n-c.shatterstorm.net/div.html and enjoy!) So, we came up with this killer idea for CD to have to go undercover in the leather community to find a murderer and Jinny goes along as her partner/submissive...

Sound slightly familiar? If you've ever read LWM, (Rapids specifically) it damn well better! That idea snowballed into a massive book and some of my best writings. It also created Dace. Now CD's canon first name is Candace, so I felt it necessary to give her an obnoxiously girly middle name as well. So, Candace Dorthy shortens to CD, get it? Take Candace and chop out the first half and you have a fairly butch moniker. As the new and improved CD/Dace grew into her own, I was totally, TOTALLY hooked. Her relationships with existing characters grew in tandem with the intricacies of both her character and the plot she was involved in. Rapids changed drastically (OZMG, you have NO idea how much) over time as series and characters were added and evolved. The actual serial killer plot remains fairly true to what I first envisioned, despite the twist of The Sentinel changes, which thankfully meshed near-perfectly with where Dace was headed anyway.

What I see/hear in my head as Dace has become completely different from what the lovely Tracy Needham gave me onscreen. As Dace has evolved into such a multi-faceted personality, she becomes more and more an OC. Really, outside of where the character started out, there is hardly a resemblance anymore. When I see Needham on the TV (CSI and CSI:Miami both come to mind...) it startles me what a girly-girl she is! Dammit that's not MY Dace! *laughs*

2. Seattle Seahawks
Jeez, you've given me some toughies! Okay, here we go. After living in Seattle for a few months, (I moved here for my psycho ex-girlfriend originally) I was having serious trouble finding a job. No car on the USA west coast can be a nightmare. One day, there was an ad in the paper that was basically looking for people with personality. So I called in and spoke to a woman that said she was looking for tour guides at the brand-new-shiny-special football stadium downtown. Tour Guide has always sounded fun to me, so I figured, what the hell? When I say brand-new, I kid not. When I walked over from the bus stop, there were huge, ginormous letters spelling out 'SEATTLE SEAHAWKS' lying on the cement of the main plaza at the base of the enormous grand staircase. These were to hang later at the top of the northeast curve of the outside wall, just below the roof. i gawked at the vast north tower with it's four intricately cut and brightly painted circles and just the sheer SIZE of the place. So, after not getting nearly as lost as one might think in such a cavernous setting, I found a lovely woman named Valarie who sheepishly had to find a quiet corner with a desk and chairs to speak with me! To this day I'm completely convinced that I won the job because I made her laugh. Now, this is a 460 million (I think. It's been a long time!) dollar stadium with all sorts of fun stories that we are now going to have to tell all the curious people that will want to know about. And there was nothing, and I mean NOTHING, to get us started. Just poor Valarie, who was volunteered to head the tour guides and a fascinatingly diverse mixed bag of thirteen people. We covered every possible facet of humanity, my core team and I. (goddess, I miss that group) Rich, poor, young, old, natives and imports alike. Together, we built the entire program from nothing. We walked the stadium, poking our noses into everything. Hell, there weren't even signs up when we started! That added to the challenge, believe me. The stadium really is huge and just finding stuff is hard! We had to be ready by the fan/city appreciation day before the season actually started where TPTB threw open the doors for the first and probably only time to the public to come see their tax dollars at work.
Over time we did an astonishing variety of tours that were fun, exhausting and occasionally like a warzone. Trying to talk to a group of 90 people because an event coordinator can't COUNT how many attendees they actually have, got real damn interesting, let me tell you! But, there were days that I could get just a single person on one or both of my daily public tours, or even no one at all! Unfortunately, over time, the idiots that ran my part of the stadium proceedings, failed to see what an asset we were. Little by little, hours were cut, we were excluded from the endless private events and everybody eventually left. By the time I finally threw in the towel, I think there were only two of us left.
Anyway, early on in my TG days, I had zero, zip, zilch interest in the team that got the damn stadium in the first place. Football was a bunch of burly Neanderthals in too-tight, silly uniforms trying to kill each other. I used to horrify my team captain by asking on Mondays, "so who won?"
I met and dated a wonderful woman who is still a good friend and roommate and NOT AJ DAMMIT! It was Amy that finally got me hooked on the Seahawks and taught me how the game worked. I have to say that football makes no damn sense until you learn the gist of the rules. Even years later, I still get confused by the subtler and/or rare aspects and rules of the game. Technically, I still couldn't care less about football in general, only as the sport pertains to my boys in blue!

3. Bionic Woman
This one is completely the fault of my fellow femslashers. I was mostly oblivious of the arrival of the new Jamie Sommers, though I'm pretty sure that I watched the original. But when the internet groups lit up over the pilot, I then watched the first regular episode with Amy. Ah yes, the wonderful and elegantly subtexy 'Paradise Lost'. Still my favorite episode by far. Not only was it fun and action-packed, but I got to meet Ruth. OMG, Ruth! Squee! Molly Price rocks my world. I vaguely recognized her from a few sightings of Third Watch, but was mad for the cool Dr Ruth! Dear lord, the GTO? Ruth calmly describing Jamie as, "she's my muscle"? SWOON! Then the rich brat in 'Sisterhood' and her "is she a lesbian" comment. *cracks up* Man, if looks could kill...
I wanted to be the first to write Jamie and Ruth and I almost succeeded too! Someone beat me out by only a day or so darnit. It really is a shame the show first hired that asshole Issiah Washington (Hello TPTB! Didn't you have a clue who your best dynamics were? Why the HELL did you hire that homophobic bastard?) and then went brain-dead and sophomoric with the arrival of Tom Hastings, CIA lackey. *gags* It had nothing to do with the plot being heterosexual, it had to do with lousy writing and a complete lack of chemistry and Jamie turning into yet another version of 'fall in wuv and go braindead' syndrome that TV rams down our throats so often. ****SIGH****
Thankfully, we will always have femslash. Oh, and Nathan.

4. Idina Menzel
Yup, no shock that this fetish is entirely the fault of Wicked, the musical. For years and years I had never listened to or knew much about Wicked. Then I read some Galinda/Elphaba fic, AJ read the original book and we bought the cast recoding. It was like, "where have you BEEN all my life?" Now, I knew Kristen Chenoweth simply because I don't live under a rock and one just learns about her, but who was that elegant and shyly sexy studmuffin under all that green makeup? Through Gelphie fics and yes **GASP** RPF, I learned about Idina Menzel. Yes, that damn woman finally broke my 'real person fic is the downfall of all that is holy and civilized' mindset. Well, at least for a bit, then I got my brain away from my libido and remembered why I hate, hate, HAAAAATE RPF!!!!!! *clears throat* Anyway, the damage to my brain that might have resisted her charms was permanent. We now have nearly all of her recordings and love the stuff. Hell, I'll even watch parts of 'Rent' occasionally for her, and I really don't care for that particular play. That, and I got Dace's sweet little Starling out of it. *evil grin* Those of you that read the original of that particular fic know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

5. California
Yes, poor me, I am a creature of Southern California. My mother was brought there in 1954 from Chicago, in the massive exodus that made Los Angeles what it is today. Her father was a housepainter and the mid-west winters made that a tough business. I grew up in a place called Santa Clarita, which is two valleys north of LA proper. That leaves the infamous San Fernando valley in the middle. So... I was a suburb kid of white-collar computer nerds. Somewhere along the thread of my life, I had a faint fascination with the Pacific Northwest. Probably history classes of the gold rush. As a teenager, I took a trip with the YMCA that gave me a good look at the San Francisco and the redwoods. So... I made friends with AJ online and she told me that I should visit her in Portland. At the time I was living alone in a really cute bachelor pad in Long Beach, in a building that had been a hotel when built in the 20s.

So, I find myself looking at my life, right? No kids, nothing irrevocably tying me down. And I decided to move and give it six months. Obviously, I loved it, eventually finding myself in the lovely Puget Sound area. It will take something serious to pry me from this magical place.

Damn you Geek... though I can't complain about reviewing the wonderful memories!
