In Saudi Arabia, the ageing population continues to age (>60 years of age) currently (5%) compared to other age groups. In 2050, it will rise rapidly to 20.9% of the Saudi population. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technology plays an important role in assisting elderly people to live in their home independently, longer, and improve their quality of life and health and in supporting their daily activities etc. The current research aims at examining the barriers that healthcare providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are experiencing in the adoption of AAL technologies among the elderly. The study identified some of the challenging issues with the increasing number of elderly people among the population in the country, which has highlighted the need to use AAL technologies to improve the quality of life among the elderly. Elderly Saudi Arabians' Perceptions and Attitudes Towards Using Ambient Assisted Living Technologies
The growth in the ageing population is rapidly increasing and their care cost will be a challengi... more The growth in the ageing population is rapidly increasing and their care cost will be a challenging issue in the future. The number of elderly people worldwide (defined as those age 60 years and older) was 202 million in 1950; this number has since quadrupled to reach 841 million, and is expected to triple again by 2050. Moreover, the elderly population in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is expected to increase by 2055. These demographic changes raise a number of challenges related to their quality of life, including social communication and care, health, autonomy and utilisation of institutional services. These challenges require novel approaches to dependable self-adapting technological innovations. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) aims to improve the quality of life for elderly people and provide them with technologies and services that support their daily activities, and help them to live longer and stay at home independently. The aims of this research are to review Ambient Assisted Living Technology, to provide examples of technologies and applications, and to examine attitudes and perceptions of elderly people towards using AAL technologies in KSA by using a quantitative analysis. The results show that elderly Saudi Arabians are willing and intending to accept and use AAL technologies.

Factors Influencing Ageing Population for Adopting Ambient Assisted Living Technologies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Ageing International, 2016
The era of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has changed the world of the ageing pop... more The era of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has changed the world of the ageing population. Elderly people do not wish to live as they did in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Instead, their desire is to live independently in their own home and continue to practice all activities. However, the cost of taking care of elderly people is a challenge for both the present and in the future. Indeed, the number of elderly people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is increasing rapidly from 5 % to 20.9 % by 2050. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technology is advocated to improve the quality of life, provide the elderly with services and technologies that support them in their daily activities, help them to live longer and independently in their homes. The aims of this paper are to explore the barriers and challenges of AAL by identifying the barriers that restrict the adoption of these technologies in KSA and to provide a quantitative analysis based on the results of a survey. The results show that there are many factors that influence the adoption and use of AAL technologies by elderly Saudi Arabians and provide an insight for solutions to support them in independent living.

The number of elderly people worldwide (defined as those aged 60 years and older) was 202 million in 1950; this number has since quadrupled to reach 901 million and is expected to triple again by 2100. In particular, the number of elderly people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is increasing rapidly, from 5% of the total population in 2015 to a forecasted 20.9% by 2050. Clearly, the cost of taking care of elderly people is already a challenge, but it will be very difficult to meet in the future, when it will lead to a much higher expenditure on healthcare facilities. Furthermore, although elderly people are vulnerable to a decline in their health, they do not wish to live as they did in the 1970s to 1990s. Instead, their desire is to live independently in their own homes and continue to practice normal activities. In fact, Saudi culture is changing, and the ch...

Many websites have been developed and designed in the last several decades. However, most have not been developed and designed according to a shared set of design standards. Consequently, there is a need for an approach to evaluate the effectiveness of a website. A literature review was conducted to develop such an approach. Four experts were then consulted to inspect and evaluate the approach, and a questionnaire was completed by three categories: Internet users, website developers, and others to determine its final version. This research resulted in the development of an approach to evaluate website effectiveness, composed of three major criteria: design, content, and functionality, and 17 sub-criteria. The significance of this new approach is that it allows stakeholders to evaluate their websites and determine how to improv...

The number of elderly people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) will continue to increase rapidly, which will lead to a high expenditure in healthcare facilities. Elderly people are vulnerable to decline in their health. Therefore, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) monitoring technology is advised to improve their quality of life and deliver the elderly with services and technologies that help them in their daily activities so that they may live independently in their homes for a longer time. The main goal of this paper is to develop and design a new concept for monitoring elderly people in their homes in KSA. We propose a Model of a Proactive Ambient Assisted Living System to Monitor Elderly People in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabian, and predicts and indicates potential events for early intervention. We envision that the AALPMS can fulfil the needs and requirements of elderly people and assist the Saudi government ...

Each agency is composed of branches that are spread across the KSA. Some have the authority to strategically attract and hire people. Most agencies and branches do not interchange data with each other. People who want to apply to a university for study or to the public government for work have to enter all of their personal data each time. A government services bus (GSB) is a platform that enables agencies and the associated branches to integrate and interlink in order to share data. Most agencies are unaware of the advantages of GSB. COVID-19 has locked down the world in many aspects. This study aims to identify the purpose of GSB and its advantages in order to raise awareness in the agencies, branches, and communities. A questionnaire was conducted to measure the awareness of GSB. Awareness is an essential factor that allows a government agency to understand why it should interlink with GSB. There are numerous advantages t...

Changes in the number of children born per woman and mortality rates are major factors influencing the age profile of the population. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the proportion of elderly people in its population is expected to rise dramatically. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) monitoring technology is an innovative form of technology that improves quality of life for elderly people and supports them with daily activities. AAL has potential to enable elderly people to live independently in their preferred environment and keep them connected with their families, relatives and friends. This paper aims to further enhance a conceptual model that was designed by the authors in 2016 to interconnect approved family members/ friends using smart phones/ tablets. The enhanced conceptual model will assist the Saudi government and elderly people to adopt AAL technology that supports early intervention at home and to minimise long term consequences of health issues.

In addition, monitoring drivers’ behavior to reduce accidents has attracted considerable attention from industry and academic researchers in recent years. However, there are still many issues that have not been addressed due to the lack of feature extraction. To this end, in this paper, we propose the multimodal driver analysis internet of connected vehicles (MODAL-IoCV) approach for analyzing drivers’ behavior using a deep learning method. This approach includes three consecutive phases. In the first phase, the hidden Markov model (HMM) is proposed to predict vehicle motion and lane changes. In the second phase, SqueezeNet is proposed to perform feature extraction from these classes. Lastly, in the final phase, tri-agent-based soft actor critic (TA-SAC) is proposed for recommendation and route planning, in w...

This type of cybersecurity threat requires minimal technical knowledge because it relies on the organization’s human element. Social engineers use various techniques, such as phishing, to manipulate users into either granting them access to various systems or disclosing their private data and information. Social engineering attacks can cost organizations more than 100,000 USD per instance. Therefore, it is necessary for organizations to increase their users’ awareness of social engineering attacks to mitigate the problem. The aim of this study is to provide a measurement of social engineering awareness in the Saudi educational sector. To achieve the aim of this study, a questionnaire was developed and evaluated. A total of 465 respondents completed the survey and answered questions related to measuring their knowledge of social engineerin...
