Breathing life into the core of identity security
Sailpoint are the creators of the identity security space, and bring more than 18 years of expertise, innovation, and commitment to this industry. Nobody else can stake that claim. Nobody else has that depth of institutional knowledge. Nobody else has that heritage.
But as the category grew around them, they were starting to look like everyone else. They needed to step outside the norms, and start repositioning themselves as a cybersecurity company rather than identity.
Initial Exploration
The Problem
They had recently developed part of the brand, but there was a disconnect with the creative expression. A big part of this was the ‘core of identity security’ concept, but it wasn’t landing visually in their identity, or verbally in the messaging. It was becoming confused and lacked flexibility and longevity.
We were brought in to create a holistic messaging strategy, level-up the brand visual language, and produce creative for a campaign. All in a way that plays to their heritage, while differentiating SailPoint in the market.

The Solution
Instead of specifically using the word ‘core’, we explored how it acted as a starting point for a more dynamic verbal system – starting with a very top level message, and drilling down to reveal more detail. Being well versed in cybersecurity, we knew there was an opportunity to develop a tone of voice that strikes the perfect balance between practical delivery and showcasing personality.
Visually we used the concept of the core to include more abstracted angular shapes which unified it with the updated brand. We’re talking vectorised treatments – textures and patterns that sit within assets.

In the industry, certain things are commonplace – floods of navy, stock images with a neon flourish and overly detailed infographics. All in all, they give you a fairly forgettable look and feel. But you can’t go carte blanche visually, it’s got to be authentic to your brand.
With Sailpoint we struck a balance pushing the boat out in some areas, but sharing a common language in others. We used subtle variations of colour palette, and brought more creative expression using movement and brush strokes.

The Results
We joined the dots between the core concept and their core brand – moving it into a new, completely expressive visual identity that’s differentiated. And this work is just the start. The design language is created in a future-thinking way that gives them flexibility to take it to new heights across campaigns, content and wider marketing and brand executions.
