Weekend in Very Brief

Larpercalia was amazingly fun. Friday night, I was in Timelines, Saturday I played in Ruins of Grandeur and Better Off Dead, and Sunday I played in Costumed Henchmen. I think this was probably better for me, at least in terms of quality of games I played in. The 40 minute commute there and back wasn't great, but only really killed me Sunday when I arrived an hour late for my game because I thought it started at 2 instead of 1. That...kinda sucked and I heartily apologize to both the other players and the GMs who waited on us.

Okay, it also sucked Saturday night driving home from Sparkle Motion after the after-prom party, but that still counts as Sunday since we didn't get home till 5:30 in the morning. Though it was fun to walk into the McDonalds on the pike in my dress, with my 80's hair and makeup and my prom queen tiara.

That's right, bitches. I was prom queen. \o/

Sunday had my best costume (I pretty much dressed up like Zatanna and was gratified to hear several people yell that very thing as I approached the con suite after game). Better Off Dead had the costume I thought I looked the best in (though I couldn't touch juldea's for sheer epic and awesome) and was easily the best game for all-around costuming, I think. (It had witticaster in a tux. 'Nuff said.)

I'm still kind of processing the weekend as a whole and formulating thoughts beyond, "Pretty...fun...yay," which is kind of where I am right now. Delicious spoilery posts will come later, though, like shogunhb, my posting's been pretty crap as late. Sorry, y'all. I suck.

Speaking of, I do want to give a shout-out to shogunhb for being awesome this weekend. He mentions in his own LJ about the trials and tribulations he had getting to game Saturday night, but then he stayed up till 3am with me this morning so we could watch Tangled together after I went to bed hideously grumpy and overtired because we hadn't gotten to watch it. And then woke up and went to work this morning. He's gone into the lab every day since we got home from Florida, including both weekends and the Friday we returned, when he was still technically on vacation.

So, thank you, honey, for indulging my sulk tantrum and being amazing. I really do appreciate it.

I'm hitting LARPers Let-down really hard right now and am vacillating between wanting to work on the LARP ddrpolaris and k1ttycat and I are working on, and wanting to be playing something else omgrightnowplscanI. I've also been fighting off a nasty headache and dealing with internet woes all day, so this is truly a most Monday of Mondays.

But it can only be so very Monday-like because of how amazing my weekend was, so many thanks to all the writers, GMs, fellow players, and con staff who made my second Festival as wonderful as my first, which I didn't think could possibly happen.

At :49, you can see the Enforcer sneaking up onstage. At 1:24, the big screen shows Quixote, much to the crowd's delight.

Home again, home again...

PAX East was really fun. Everyone loved my monkey-pony and by 'everyone', I include Wil Wheaton (who stopped me on my way past his table), Jerry Holkins (who took a lot of pics while the monkey-pony was onstage), Paul and Storm (especially Paul, we chatted since their merch table was right next to JoCo's), random passersby who wanted to take pictures, and, of course, JoCo himself. Quixote (the monkey-pony) even got to go up onstage during Skullcrusher Mountain; JoCo didn't see him, but he was on the big screens to either side of the stage for a few moments, so everyone else did.

It's going to be tough for him, readjusting to regular life after that brush with stardom. I know for a fact that I was noticed at PAX only because of having Quixote on my arm.

PAX was a blast. Most of the time, I was at the merch table, but that didn't stop me from having fun. At one point, the two violinists from the VGO set up shop at the end of their merch table (on the other side of Paul and Storm's) and played the opening music to Chrono Cross in an impromptu concert. Friends stopped by at the table, especially whenever there wasn't a line, and kept us company. During the really awful Rock Band performances at the beginning of the concert, I went back to the table and the Enforcers and I (and fellow booth-babe cthulhia) had a mini-dance concert out in front of the merch tables. Everyone I talked to was incredibly nice (VIPs, Enforcers, and random crowd members), and I got to leave the table when I wished and eat when I was hungry--very different than my first booth babe-ing experience. On the other hand, I got a husband out of that one, so I can't complain too much.

I didn't go see much of PAX beyond the concert (I saw VGO perform and JoCo, and merch-sat during P&S so other people could see them). This was less because I was chained to the table and more because I didn't want to wait in lines for hours to see stuff. In all, I was pretty happy just hanging out with people, chatting with JoCo (who is really nice), and giving Quixote his time to shine.

Now I'm home, still pretty beat (I'm starting to think 3 cons in 3 weeks wasn't a particularly wise decision). My arms and legs are sore, my throat is scratchy, and I'm running a low-grade temp. However, I'm still really glad I had the opportunity to go and if JoCo decides to come back to PAX East 2011, I'm pretty sure he has my email address.

Many thanks to juldea, who made it happen.

These two pics sum up the best of the con for me:

Intercon Game Question

Has anyone heard from the folks running Tam Lin? I hadn't and so I dropped them an email and yet still haven't heard back. Is this the case for everyone or have I just missed it completely?

So I'm in:

Tam Lin (no news)

Camelot Court of Love

and Like Putting a Leash on a Rocket Launcher.

If it wasn't for Leash, I'd be very tempted to just say "Fuck it" and stay home this year.

As far as names of cons go

I can't tell if NonCon is the best or the worst I've ever heard.

Seriously, did anyone stop to think about this one? Was it intentional? I JUST DON'T KNOW!!!

I forgot to post this before

Guess who is doing Lunacon scheduling this year? And alone (apart from a terrific team of terrific-ness?)

Me.

And there was much rejoicing.

Five years ago (yesterday)

I met the man who would become my husband. I chose to post about it today, because it was five years ago today that we first gamed together, sang Broadway tunes together, and laughed together. We're still doing those same things today and everyday, I grow happier with him.

Happy anniversary, Shaughn. I love you.

Diversity in Fandom (We Haz It)

For a WorldCon presentation from verb_noire, karnythia is putting together a "faces of fandom" sort of slide show to demonstrate just how diverse fandom is and why representation is so important. If you're willing to be included, check out her post.

Once again, verb_noire is a new press dedicated to publishing SF/F work with PoC and queer protagonists.

I am so stressed. I've barely slept at all this past week; I keep having Lunacon nightmares. I keep emailing people but no one gets back to me and I have to start stalking them on their phones and there are a bunch of people that are in the database but haven't gotten any follow up emails because the stupid database has kept their answers ("yes going" or "no not going") since 2006. And I thought I had more time because Leigh needs everything for the pocket program by the 3rd week in Feb, but I forgot that I need to give everyone at least a week to look over their schedules and let me know if they need to change something and the hotel hasn't gotten back to me about David's memorial and Dora hasn't gotten back to me about the hotel and Elaine hasn't let me know anything about the masquerade even though I've asked and people are having problems logging into their systems and i can't fix it and now I'm crying because I'm so damn frustrated!!!!

So far, I only have 189 participants, and that's counting the maybe's. If this Lunacon turns into a failure, it's going to be all my fault.

And I have a LARP to write (by Sunday!) and a play to prepare (for Monday!) and I'm already behind in my reading for class and why the fuck did I think this was a good idea?

I'm done now. I've wasted eight minutes bitching that I should have been working. I need a stiff fucking drink. And about two extra weeks worth of time.

Thank God for shogunhb, ddrpolaris, ladyscience, and eenamae. Their help has been incalcuable, and they love me even when I snap at them

Lunacon craziness

Okay folks, Lunacon prep is swinging into high gear. Which is fortunate, since there's nothing else that's going on around this time and I was getting worried that I'd perish from boredom. Now, I know there are a bunch of you that have volunteered to help me, and a few others who have been 'volunteered' by me. Can I get a roll-call of people interested and onboard, so I can figure out what needs to be done, who can have access to it, and when would be a convenient time for us to meet?

Also, if I've approached you for something else Lunacon-related (like zrealm for gaming and juldea for JoCo [who still hasn't contacted me back...]) could you also let me know? I'm starting to forget things. Old age and whatall.

Also, this will be an excellent post to let me know if a) you're planning on coming to Lunacon (March 14-16) even if you're not 100% sure if you're going to make it, b) if you have reserved a room and for how long, c) how many people you'd be willing to room with, and d) if you have already registered or not.

Pardon, I must go and crazify elsewhere. I've got a Master's Prospectus to write.

Oy.
