What have the Sentry Box Staff been up to – Oct 11 – Nov 12

Hi there! Sue here. I’m going to be hosting the Staff Blog for awhile. This month, we’re going to be looking at some miniatures, some miniature games, some board games, and a historical miniatures game. Our Staff were pretty busy this month and we have some games we’re pretty excited about. As always, we’ll share what worked, what didn’t work, what we liked, and what may need some improvement. YYC Hive Narrative Campaign 2023/24 Basic Info.

The Set-Up

The new toys were painted and the urge to speed race through a distant dystopian future was too great not to heed. A new Necromunda campaign was about to start at the Sentry Box. If you have played in one of our Necro-leagues in the past you will notice a few changes (as always…) but new players should still be able to pick up the game and learn ‘properly’.

Wanting to teach new players and run a campaign set in the Ash Wastes can be a difficult thing to do…especially if you want to give everyone a good gaming experience. This Narrative Campaign will attempt to keep players engaged by telling the backstory of their gang, and eventually incorporate all the new and cool vehicle rules for the Ash Wastes setting.

What have The Sentry Box staff been up to – Aug 7-13

Sue played TSR’s Dungeon! board game from 1981. “I died on the very first turn. The 1980s were an unforgiving time in gaming LOL. I love the box art, but the player characters were little pieces of plastic that looked like little traffic cones. So we used some modern day D&D pre-painted minis which looked A LOT better. The game itself is charming for it’s retro feel but very simplistic by today’s standards. Honestly, beyond the nostalgia, I can think of a bunch of dungeon crawls today that are objectively better games, including Talisman, Descent, and the (modern) D&D board games.
