Fannish musings

1. QaF folks: glockgal has drawn QaF art -- specifically Brian dressed as Rage, along with a shirtless Justin. I don't believe she normally does stuff for this fandom, so I figured most of you would miss it without a pointer. *points*

2. ST folks: Can someone explain to me why McCoy/Chapel fic is currently eating my brain? I mean, first of all, it's het. I have absolutely nothing against het, and I will read it when it's recced, but since when do I crave it and actively seek it out? And second, it's Chapel, who (unless I missed something) wasn't even in the new movie. I don't have a clue who the hell she even is.

And yet, and yet. I am now watching mccoy_chapel (and I've devoured nearly all the offerings to date there), and I have even left a McCoy/Chapel prompt at the evil kink meme. Why? I'm sure it has nothing to do with the sheer hotness of Bones going down on a woman. *cough*

Kirk/McCoy is definitely still my OTP in this fandom, and McCoy/Chekov is my guilty pleasure, but McCoy/Chapel appears to be my het OTP. Huh.

3. xie_xie_xie made an interesting post last night about minor characters in fanfiction. As most of you know, I really enjoy reading about minor characters in addition to my OTP's. In fact, I think that minor character fic is one of the main reasons I'm still active in the HP fandom, while the lack thereof in the QaF fandom (with a few exceptions! *waves to foreverbm*) is part of why I have drifted away from QaF.

The QaF fandom pretty much IS Brian and Justin, and one pairing is not enough to keep me in a fandom -- because at some point you've read/said everything you want to say about these two people (or at least it's that way for me). Same thing happened to me with Remus/Sirius in HP -- I read every fic I could get my hands on for months, but after a while I needed a break, so I segued into Harry/Draco, and after that, well. My mind was opened to the wonders of Remus/Draco and Bill/Charlie and, I don't know, Blaise/Neville. Thank god for all those minor HP characters and all the amazing fic about them, or I probably would have drifted out of this fandom too.

Happy Friday, flist! And the happiest of birthdays to the lovely and talented rinsbane! Hope it's been a wonderful day, hon. *squishes*

So. I may possibly have submitted four fic prompts over at st_xi_kink. Anyone feel inspired? *crickets*

I have so many fics to rec that I'm sort of overwhelmed, so I'm going to chicken out and do art tonight instead.

ahahaha
I just got back from watching Star Trek and...my spoilery thoughts, let me show you themCollapse )
You guys. Sometime between my last post and staying up till 2:30 in the morning to inhale about 50 pages of fic over at the kink meme, I changed my mind about not wanting to see the new Star Trek movie.

I'm leaving in 20 minutes. *headdesk*

Happy birthday, tray_la_la! Hope it's a lovely day. :-)

I'm not posting much lately because I've been in an absolute frenzy of reading. I've knocked out a bunch of long fics on my "to read" list (with about a dozen still to go, argh), and I've also been devouring every new Star Trek fic I can get my hands on. No, I have not seen the movie yet (and am honestly not that interested in doing so), so I'm one of those fans who's in it for the fanon, not the canon. *hides*

I blame Bones. There always seems to be at least one character/person in each of my fandoms that I'm ridiculously in love with (Remus Lupin, Brian Kinney, Rafa Nadal...), and in ST it's definitely Bones. (Although for sheer porn, Chekov is pretty delicious as well. *g*) I also blame the half-dozen folks on my flist who are writing and reccing such good fic in this fandom.

From a new fandom love to an old one, all the R/S fans have seen the Remus/Sirius Love Post on imochan's LJ, right? We're up to nine pages of drabbles, art, fic recs, porn, fluff, angst, fannish nostalgia, and love, so much love. ♥ Old-school R/S folks, the writers I read when I first got into the pairing about four years ago, writers I thought were long gone from the fandom, have showed up in this thread to share in the squee. Remus/Sirius was my first OTP, and even now that I've moved on to different pairings and fandoms, R/S can still bring a lump to my throat like no other pairing can. Gah.

I have a heap of recs, but this post is getting long so I'll save most of them for another day. Instead, I'll just do an author rec for the HP and ST (what the hell is the accepted abbreviation for the new Star Trek, anyway?) fans out there: if you're not reading everything hollycomb has ever written, you are missing out. A sampling of my favorite fics of hers:
