I tried to talk to Kendra about these things and she was like well I feel that if you don't have the womanly instincts is because god is testing you. Ha, what? I hate it when people bring religion into some things. She was also talking about how women like that were fucked up in the head and were probably raped or had an abusive father or something. Good lord! I was stunned. She is getting too much of a Jesus freak to hang around with.



Are the traditional male\/female roles people tend to take on learned or inborn?<\/b>

I try not to rule out possibilities so here is my take on both ideas.

Inborn i.e. evolutionary:<\/b> How could it be evolutionary? I do feel strongly that it is learned. Then again it depends on what traditional roles you are discussing. And what does classify as traditional role actions\/thoughts\/feelings? And if it is evolutionary how come there are several women who do not have these 'instincts' as other women do? Nurturing. I definately think this is an evolutionary trait. We do afterall bear the children. But then we run into the problem how come there are women who have no interest in having children? This is going out on a limb but here we go... Darwinism- survival of the fittest. The strongest of a race survive and their genes are the ones passed on. Due to medical advances in medicine and operations ect perhaps the 'survival of the fittest' concept isn't so much in play. So, and I'm just going out on a limb like I said, perhaps the women who have less of the traditional womanly 'instincts' are evolutionary defects. Perhaps these genes would not have been so quantitively, in relation to past generations, passed down if the advances were not made and people did not live longer. *shrugs*


Product of environment:<\/b> When a baby girl is born what toys is she given? How is she treated? Baby dolls not swords. Kitchen sets not tool sets. Easy Bake Ovens, Barbie, ect. How are they treated? Fragil. Assumptions are made in education and women of power are still less heard of than men. That's just in more progressive countries. In some countries women aren't even aloud to leave the home with out a male accompament. I think after women keep hearing that they are less than men, that men are smarter, more stable, ect they start to believe it. Even in this country I've heard older women talk about how women are weaker.

I really do think it's a mixture. If a girl was given equal opportunties to choose traditional male activities or traditional women activities would there be a more women who exibit a fair mixture of the traditional male and female activities\/thoughts\/ect? Would there be less cookie cutter females?




Is the obesity epidemic a product of evolution? Inner wired instincutal cravings for high calorie foods now due to having less chance to eat in the past?<\/b>

I suppose it could be evolutionary to some degree but I'm just not seeing it. I think it has to do with the chemicals in all the food and it being addictive and technology making people lazy. Also my arms are jiggly! Instead of sitting on my ass vegetating in front of the computer I should sit on my ass vegetating in front of the computer and lift weights occassionally... On my day off I'm going to do some heavy duty cleaning and just generally organizing.

What I'm happy about is that I'm not really distressed about the situation. Just like hmmmm I'm eating bad and my arms are jiggly.
